Mi Lah Vegetarian opened its door in October 2008 and proudly serves local, seasonal vegetables, forward vegetarian and vegan food. "Mi Lah" originates from the Indian Buddhist (Maitreya) word that denotes nature, harmony, happiness, kindness, and mercy and we strive to embody these principles through our work. We aim to fill the need for healthy, whole and delicious vegetarian cuisine in our neighbourhood as well as to be a friendly and active members of our community. Our menu features fruits and vegetables from local farms instead of heavy sauce and substitutions. We use the finest and freshest ingredients to offer an international array of dishes fit to impress the most sophisticated vegetarian palate.
"This was our first time dining at this restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The spices used in all of the dishes we tried were exceptional - Every dish had a great combination of flavors. We will definitely be back!"

"Everyone in Phila. loves Vedge, and Mi Lah doesn't provide its romantic tablecloth experience but the food at Mi Lah was as good as any I've eaten in Phila. and across the US and Europe. The salads here were just ok, really interesting tasting but not as beautiful or complex; and we were too full to try the sweets. But the rest, fantastic. My omnivore friend still can't stop talking about his experience. PS the noise level was quiet to medium. I can't get the open table site to change that,"

"This was REALLY tasty food. Menu had a bunch of creative options that all looked great. The lunch special is really a deal (soup, appetizer and entree for reasonable prices). It was also not too loud so it was a great place to catch up with friends. I highly recommend this for those seeking vegetarian food that is different."

"Arrived on Sunday at 2:15 pm for Sunday Brunch. They were already out of 3 of the main entree dishes served for brunch (The menu is small initially. So, being out of 3 main items took out most of the selections).
They were even out of coffee and tea!!!
How does a restaurant run out of coffee and tea, especially when there is a coffee shop just 100 yards up the street???? (go out and buy another bag of grounds!)... I left and went to the coffee shop for my morning brew. I was back in 5 minutes.
Positives: -- what food they did serve was delicious. Plus, it's BYOB. Just beware when you go, get there early before the pantry empties. Although, the food wasn't spectacular enough to prompt me to rise early on a leisurely Sunday morning."

"This was our second time at MiLah and the food was even better than before. Everything is obviously made from scratch but all prepared a head and just heated as the food comes out at lightening speed.
I'll start with the cons: The second we sat down the waiter wanted to take our order. When we tried to say one of us wasn't ready, he said "ok, I'll start over here." As so the lightening round began. We ordered, he brought our apps within 3 minutes, and out main dishes 2 minutes after apps were done. There was not chance to enjoy the flavors, enjoy the company of our friends....When he tried to get us to order to desert we finally dismissed him so we could finish our wine.
Pros: The food is amazing."

"Terrible service. Rude host and server. Didn't welcome us, say hello, offer dessert or coffee. Just plopped menus on the table, dropped the check on the table while we were still eating our entree, didn't ever check to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything (or were enjoying anything). If you want a nice vegetarian meal, there are way better options. Phila has way too many excellent restaurants to waste a trip here. Vedge in center city blows this lpace out of the water. Not even close."

"Portions at brunch are perhaps the largest, most generous in all of Philadelphia. That the food is delicious and colorful and fun makes brunch at MiLah one of the best values. I cannot justify eating brunch elsewhere...! PS. Order the ridiculously ample $6 French Toast!"

"Initially, service felt very rushed, bringing one of the two appetizers, and while awaiting the second appetizer, they brought the salads. We reminded them of the appetizer that we were awaiting, and before we even finished the first appetizer, with the salads to the side, they brought the entree. We sent the entrees back and asked them to slow things down a bit. They complied, and the meal was completed at a leisurely pace that was quite enjoyable. The food was well prepared, seasoned nicely, presented artfully."

"I live in DC, my friend lives in NY, and we met halfway in Philly to catch up. We met at to Mi Lah for the vegan brunch on Sunday, and it was outstanding. My friend got the beer-battered tempeh and waffles, I got the tofu benedict, and we shared a side of vegan bacon. Each of the plates were ginormous, and the tofu benedict came with a huge side of roasted sweet potatoes and braised kale. The kale was sooooooo delicious that I've been obsessing about kale dishes ever since. My friend also loved her food and we both cleaned off our plates.
Will definitely be back for brunch the next time I'm in Philly."

"Everything was delicious and so creative. I dissed them a little for service because our server wasn't very enthusiastic. In her defense, she seemed to have a cold, which was also kind of unappetizing (seeing her constantly wiping her nose). But the other server for the night, who was not ours, seemed super-good and knowledgeable - I listened to his explanations to other diners! Altogether a very nice experience, though, despite our server being just 'meh'."

"We were seated upstairs which is minimal decor but very nice, could use a coat rack. My sandwich was huge, lots of white bread (ugh) and very standard buffalo sauce, not good not bad, but lots of seitan which was done really well. Only a few little greens on the plate, but for $8 I felt it was a good value. however, I would be willing to pay more to have better bread and more vegggies - some celery and bleu cheese would have been so good with it! The soup was delicate and wonderful, but the peony tea was dissapointing -almost cold and no flavor no matter how long I steeped it. My friend got the black bean burrito which he complained was dry - it was supposed to have mole sauce and could have seriously used it but we couldn't find any."

"Excellent, inventive cuisine with generous portions. Like Vedge, it is a restaurant for anyone with curious taste buds, vegetarian or not (we are not). The appetizers were memorable (fried minced veggie triangles, edamame dumplings in mushroom broth) and the main courses (brussels sprouts with nut cakes, Indonesian tofu stew, Mexican mole with smoked portobello) were very good. Service is well-intentioned but inexperienced. For instance, our server forgot to clear one course before bringing the next."

"Went for lunch. Eaten here many times. Love their Pad Thai. This may have been an off day for them. Soup was excellent. The dumplings were just average. But the biggest disappointment was the tacos. They were rather tasteless. Second issue, not friendly this time. Bad attitude when I asked for coffee... response ...we are out today (with a lot of attitude). Then, I was having a lunch meeting, almost to the dot at 3pm they walked over and said, lunch is over.. you need to leave... I could understand if they were going to lock up and it was end of the day, but they had a dinner service at 5pm, and I have never had a restaurant kick me out as we were finishing our teas (no coffee remember). Anyhow.. it left a sour taste."

"Food was pretty good, a little bit bland. Had great breakfast choices, but not many lunch options when we went to eat at two. Service was very good and polite, however we did not receive the complimentary fruit that was said to come with every meal. Overall I would say good experience"

"Had an excellent time here! I was a little concerned at the cheesy Valentine's Day decorations downstairs, but we were immediately ushered upstairs to our table. As soon as we sat down, our waiter came over and offered a much nicer table by the window over the street. I'm no vegan, but this place surprised me! Portions are generous and the food is carefully, deliberately made. I had the vegetable/mushrooms in phyllo (no longer on the menu), and it was excellent! Strong roasty/wintry food for a wintry night. My date had the cauliflower stake and said it was very well-seasoned. A good bottle of wine + this place on a quiet night is a top-notch meal in the making. I would absolutely come here again."

"Another great dining experience at Mi Lah. Incredible menu of vegan-friendly dishes. So many delicious choices we have trouble ordering. The plates are healthy, deliciious, generous sized, and $14-$17. My favorite restaurant."
