À Côté is a small-plates restaurant in Oakland's charming Rockridge district. Cozy tables surround large communal tables in both the main dining room and on the sunny patio to create a festive atmosphere. Small plates reflecting the best of seasonal Mediterranean cuisine are served family-style by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Menu items are paired with a carefully chosen selection of over 40 wines by the glass as well as a highly diverse bottled wine menu. Specialty drinks featuring fresh fruits, rare botaniques and fine liqueurs are featured at the bar.

"I've been to A Cote twice and loved it both times! I am somewhat of a mussels and wine snob and this my go-to place now. I loved their fish and the quail as well. Desserts are mouthwatering and cheese plate a reason enough to come just to snack and have a glass of wine. My favorite this year!"

"I take everyone here -- from dates to group birthday dinners. I love the rustic decor, small sharable plates focusing on seasonal foods, huge wine list and wonderful weird drink list. I've started in on the Digestifs and plan to try all of them. The staff is energetic & informative, helpful with your wine/food selections. At times the place is very lively but it has never prohibited conversation. 4 stars for this past visit because I'm noticing fewer vegetable options... the food is heavier, carbier and butterier than I remember -- especially for a late spring menu. To balance our order we requested a side of green beans without potatoes as shown on the menu. which they were happy to prepare -- nicely crisp but kind of swimming in butter."

"all right experience due to attentive and friendly wait staff. maybe they were having an off night, but most dishes were almost too salty to eat. dishes were mostly advertised as "sharing" dishes, but portions of fish and vegetable sides were so small that our party of four could not really share them. fries were enormous and large enough for 4 people to share and have plenty left."

"Great service, great food, great wine. Great cocktails. Try the Georgia Porch. The Mussels are outstanding. Great tapas. The food is not overpriced. Get a flight of wine if you can. Also get the rhubarb dessert. We also got the gnocchi with pea shoots and fava beans. The halibut is outstanding as well. Olives are good. Are server really knew the menu and the cocktails and the wine."

"This restaurant has instantly become a new favorite. Great ambiance, a very pretty outdoor garden patio, some private booths, cozy tables and several chef’s tables. Mediterranean small plates with French, Italian and Spanish influences. A . The menu changes weekly, but the pommes frites with aioli and mussels with Pernod are staples. The warm rhubarb brown butter cake and coup a cote desserts were spectacular. There is a very creative cocktail list and an extensive wine list of mostly Mediterranean wines with about 40 wines by the glass. Service is top notch Jon, was very knowledgeable about the dishes and the ingredients. This restaurant is very popular and reservations are highly recommended. Dine early if you can."

"Three of us had recent Birthdays and we decided to dress and treat each other. Two women, one guy- it was perfect treat to celebrate with small plates, the Flat Iron Steak was perfect, served last and the Fritto Misto and the Arugula Salad accompanied a very delicious Bucatini Carbonara, the Cocktails, the wine and of course one desert Coupe de Cote hit every note with three forks flying..cappuccinos, we all swore we saw our very capable and quick witted server in the movies.. We all had a great time."

"We've been to A Cote many times, and never get tired of it. The menu is constantly being revised with seasonal items, and the wine list is so extensive and different that you always get something new. "Unfortunately, I'm a "free agent" in the dating scene, and whenever I have to go on a date in the East Bay, I almost always choose A Cote. The service is superb, and the wait staff is intelligent enough to recognize that you ARE on a date, and definitely has always acted accordingly. My goal is to one day take my girlfriend - who will become my wife - to our spot...and my hope is that A Cote becomes our spot. I love the mussels, which is constant on the menu, along with the various delicious flatbreads. I love this restaurant and I hope it never ever goes away!"

"We had a mixed experience. It was my birthday and we had lots of choices where to dine. We chose A Cote at the suggestion of our Son. I made reference it was a birthday when I booked. Our food was fine,.The menu is interesting and quite different from most. When it was time for dessert, our waiter gave us a dessert menu. My husband commented that it was my Birthdsy and our waiter shrugged. We were not looking for a handout or a song but it did surprise us that they do absolutely nothing. Maybe a scoop of ice cream. They charge enough where they can give special occassions a little extra, in my opinion. I also read from previous reviews that the owner or manager greets people. Perhaps his regular customers but not everyone."

"We visit A Cote about every other month throughout the year and it never disappoints. Food and service are impeccable. They change the menu regularly to keep it interesting but seem to keep a few things, like the mussels, on the menu all the time...and thanks for that as the mussels are to die for! The wine list is amazing...although most of the wines are not the run-of-the mill fare, most from regions where you might not expect to get good wine, every wine I've ever ordered at A Cote been very nice and very reasonably priced...and you can also buy the wine there to take home with you which is very nice as well. Would recommend A Cote to anyone without reservation...its a great place to dine!"

"We had been to A Coté before, but not in some time. It will certainly not be as long between visits in the future. The food was excellent, and the service top-notch: helpful but never intrusive. There was not a misstep in the menu choices we sampled: the spring onion-green garlic soup was amazing, the corvina moist and flavorful, the polenta verde very tasty, the two salads (one with beets and one with romaine) quickly dispatched, the linguica flatbread appreciated by all who partook, the grilled hangar steak greedily enjoyed, and the desserts were also wonderful. (The ricotta fritters and the Coupe A Coté went more rapidly than one would think after having shared several plates between the five of us.) The cocktails were excellent as well."

"The food was very good and served at the right pace. The only problem was the wine list -- lots of unusual wines we didn't know anything about -- even with a waiter recommendation we ended up with a bottle that wasn't good at all. Allow your patrons to taste the wine before ordering and you've got 5 stars!"

"We are frequent visitors to A Cote. The food is always very good, the service is generally very good. On this Friday night visit the service attentiveness waned as it got later, they seemed to have given up or sent too many crew home early. Overall, though, still a favorite in the area."

"The meal we had a month ago was far superior to the meal last night. inconsistency in the kitchen makes me wary to recommend A Cote. I might amble in for some reliable and delicious mussels in Pernod and a glass of wine. But I won't go out of my way agin. Sorry!"

"Rather disappointing meal, actually. Fries were very overdone (2nd time that's happened to me there), the cauliflower fritters were very bland and mushy, the brisket was tasteless... the duck confit flatbread was ok, and the trout salad was good, but the star of the show was the Rabbit Boudin Blanc - fantastic. so, over half the dishes were bad or just so-so; really does not make us want to return."
