"I am always surprised by the foods I will try at the Farmhouse. I do not care for grits and spinach and yet I found myself eating those very things AND loving it! I am never scared to try anything new there because the flavors are always delicious. The brick walls and artwork add to the quaint ambience. It is located in a nostalgic neighborhood that reminds me of San Francisco or Chicago. I cannot say enough nice things about this extraordinary gem."

"The Farmhouse has been a regular staple for us and for a long time we've been very happy with it. However, recently (year or so) the food has been in decline or inconsistent in quality. While the service was never great, the farm fresh to table food has always allowed me to turn a blind eye.
This last trip, and several before it (all brunch), was not up to my expectations. Seasoning is severely lacking. I get that the food is supposed to be so fresh that it is good on its own, but steak with NO salt and NO pepper is just unacceptable (especially since they don't put any on the table). Seasoning is only the half of it...all of our proteins were over-cooked. Yay, overcooked unsalted meat...'delicious'
The coffee is still as great as ever"

"Our dining experience was most pleasant. Our waiter was so knowledgeable about the food . The atmosphere was very friendly and the service excellent- very conscious that we had theatre tickets and needed to be finished by a certain time. We did recommend this restaurant to a family member and are anxious to hear what they think/ I love the use of locally grown and seasonal food ."

"Third time here, first lunch. Homemade pastrami sandwich and my companion's club were tasty. We love the European take on American foods from local providers prepared creatively, and The Farmhouse ambiance. Dine there, then take a walk on the river trail and it's a nice respite from every day life."

"Limited beer selection. Second time dining at this restaurant and I was greatly dissappointed. The food is not what is should be. Average, at best. The turnip greens were swimming in vinegar and onions to the point where I could recognize the greens underdeath. Chicken dried out, and had to send the steak back as was very rare when asked for medium rare. It was mooing."

"Everything that my group ordered was cooked perfectly. My wife had the braised short ribs and they were so big and tender, it was like eating a perfectly cooked roast, and they must have been dinosaur ribs, very filling. I had the hanger steak, which is not one of my favorite cuts, but Farmhouse's hanger steak was aged and cooked perfectly. We are definitely going back again."

"I loved the menu, but the food was not quite as good. I enjoyed it, but it did not blow me away like I had hoped. The short ribs had minimal seasoning and the crawfish fritters were dry and lacked flavor. The mustard sauce that accompanied it was great but way too little. Service was typical hipster - ambivalent but not awful. I would try the place again if i was back in town. Maybe it was just an off night."

"Had never been here for dinner and enjoyed walking over on a lovely evening. The food was good and so was the service, but not exceptional. We love the atmosphere, but have had more inspired service other places. A great experience is having enthusiastic help with making both food and drink selections. For us, that is what makes a place worth the cost of the outing. We will probably go back for breakfast or lunch on the weekends, but not for dinner."

"The menu is very limited, but does have a lot of different dishes, but lacks on local staples. Servers all have an abundance of piercings/tattoos, etc... which is fine, but be prepared if you are bringing young ones, you may get a lot of questions. The staff was very nice, just distracting if you are not used to that type of body art being that visible on everyone.
Paid $20 for a hanger steak and fries which was delivered luke warm at best and extremely over salted. Wine list is very poor especially if you are looking for a single glass. $11 a glass for a local non nondescript red wine.
I might try it again, but with so many great places in Kansas City, it is going to have to be because a friends want to go."

"We arrived at 5:00 and were promptly seated. However our server was too busy writing up the day's special to attend to us. Finally he came over. Menu for my taste was too foo-foo. Ordered the pork chop when came smothered in something and for $28 was priced high. Another diner loved the Hanger Steak. Third diner only had the farm salad. And the fourth had the soup due to oral surgery that day. That diner also asked for a side of the pureed cauliflower, but the waiter was hesitant and said he needed to check with the kitchen. Just not my cup of tea, so won't return."

"Food is great, but be prepared to wait for your food and drinks. It took 30 minutes to get our drink order, and 45 more to get our food. When dinner arrived we ordered a second round of drinks which arrived after we finished eating. Tons of potential. The food is always really great. The service for the most part though is always really slow. We have been there about 6 times in the last 3 months, since we live literally a block and a half away, and the service is always moving at a snails pace."

"Our food was only so so after hearing rave reviews. I asked for milk for my coffee only to be informed that the only options were cream, as it occurs naturally, and soy milk. The omelet was overcooked and the potatoes were too salty to eat. I ordered a quiche and asked to substitute a salad for the potatoes and was charged full price for the switch - which would have been ok had I been told prior to receiving the bill. Finally the coffee was too bitter to drink."

"Our first visit to The Farmhouse was for Easter brunch. It was delightful. The ambience was great with the exposed brick walls and plenty of natural sunlight coming through the front windows.
The service was outstanding, but unfortunately, I don't recall the young lady's name. She was friendly AND helpful. When I asked for her suggestions/favorites she responded authentically... so refreshing from the standard "oh, I really like this or that (the two highest priced choices on the menu!)." Instead, she offered her personal favorites and why... which led me to trying something new... the lamb sausage as a savory side to my decadently sweet entree of Bread Pudding French Toast. Yum.
We will definitely be back!"

"The Farmhouse exceeded my expectations! My wife and I had a wonderful dinner. No only was the dinner tasty but VERY HEALTHY. It was so cool to eat at the Farm House because not only is the food GREAT but they give you a list of all the local farms the food comes from. In addition the location is in a very cool part of Kansas City."

"We have now been to The Farmhouse twice for brunch and it has quickly become one of our favorites. The locally produced food is wonderful, especially the eggs and lamb sausage. And there are always some very unique, interesting daily specials. We will definitely make this a regular destination."

"Very happy we found this, as we had been looking for something to stop in at on our way out to Zona Rosa for a comedy show. Very attentive staff, nice decor that feels warm and comfortable but still is interesting. Everything that we had was terrific - started with cheese and a salad (the goat cheese bits were perfect) then followed with the steak and the chicken as main dishes. Steak was really good, chicken was good but the mashed potatoes were the highlight. Our only complaint was that the Kale in the chicken dish was a bit hard to eat, as it wasn't cooked quite enough and could have used more flavor. All together it was a winner - we'll definitely be back."

"Fine dining with a focus on local farm fresh ingrediants. All meats and cheeses are from local producers but this is not simple plain food. The Chef did an excellent job in highlighting each course and the main ingredient in that dish. I had Braised Short Rib with a demiglas sauce. Expertly braised for six hours, it was perfect. The wait staff paced the evening perfectly and their wine list was reasonably priced and a good selection of French wines. Highly recommend."

"This particular experience at Farmhouse was very disappointing. The menu and the food itself are always wonderful and I love this restaurant because I know I am supporting local farmers by eating there.
However, our experience with the service was terrible. Our server clearly had completely forgotten about us - if he hadn't left a bottle of water on our table, our drinks wouldn't have gotten refilled at all after our entrees were delivered. We waited at least 20 minutes after our meal to have our plates cleared and this only happened after we asked the hostess to have someone take care of us. Very disappointing. If we eat there again, we will specifically be asking to NOT have that server again."

"Our last visit to the Farmhouse did not fare well. We decided to give them another shou. Glad we did. It was a Wed nite, the day after a snowstorm . The service was excellent. I asked the waitperson to pair a wine with my meal and she did an excellent job. I had the roasted kale salad and my wife had the squash soup. Both superb. My wife had the Polenta cake and I had the hangar steak as entrees. My steak was excellent, complimented by a salsa verde and blue cheese butter. my wife enjoyed her polenta but did comment that it was a bit salty. I want to mention again the service. It was attentive, professional and knew the particulars of the various entrees. Glad we ate at the Farmhouse."

"We had brunch here on a recent Sunday. It's too bad there weren't more in our party, because everything on the specials board looked amazing. The smoked chicken I ended up getting was fantastic and it was cooked to perfection. As this was my first time there, I look forward to coming back (especially once it's spring/summer and more local fruits and veggies are in season)."

"I love the farm-to-table philosophy Chef Michael Foust exemplifies at The Farmhouse. Local, seasonal food is championed and featured. As a vegetarian who eats fish, however, I was disappointed the two lonely seafood dishes on the menu both had red meat in them. My server was helpful and I did have the mussels without the Andouille sausage, but after eating the bowl - they were good - I wondered if there was pork in the tomato broth? My bad, I should have asked, but still...Kudos to Chef Foust for the delicious vegetarian main course - a polenta veggie concoction that was spot on. The black-eyed pea fritters, another great idea, fell a bit short. Love the atmosphere here, I'll go back."
