King Umberto had brought the delicious taste of Italy to the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Meacham Avenue since 1976. We offer a welcoming elegant decor with superior service, perfect for any large group or parties of two. In addition to having a warm atmosphere we carry an extensive wine list, that consists of over 350 wines, with years vertical, and is recognized by Wine Spectator Magazine with an award of excellence in 2010. When it comes to our large selection of generous mouth watering appetizers and main courses we know how to please. Famous for the original Fried Capellini® and daily specials prepared by executive chefs Pietro Fuschetto and Giovanni Lombardi. Our menu is classic Italian cuisine with a worldly influence and will surely leave you satisfied, but you can't seem to leave without indulging in our homemade desserts.
"We were looking for a place to take my in-laws for dinner during a recent layover they had at JFK on their way overseas. We searched the internet and found King Umberto's. We were quite happy with our find. The food was very good, fresh and plentiful. The service was also good and attentive. Don't be deceived by the storefront appearance outside; it is nice and spacious inside. Also, it was only about 15 minutes from the airport, so a great place to have dinner rather than hanging around the airport and eating expensive fast food."

"Food and service are excellent. I don't live in NY anymore, but everytime I come back, I make it a point to have dinner at King Umberto's at least once."

"Great old school red sauce Italian restaurant. We had not been here in about 5 years, but were treated like old friends when we returned. Terrific wait staff - real pro's.
Food is way above average. Highlights: fried zucchini app crispy, delicious, and not greasy or salty. Deep fried cappelinni and cheese app sounds weird, but is fantastic - a MUST ORDER app. Next time I'm here, I'll order a double portion for the main - it's that good. Fish mains were fresh and not drowning in sauce.
The crowd is locals who have been coming here since they were kids, and Belmont Park folks who either work at the track or had a good day at the track.
Great place, only wish it were closer to home."

"Always great food, nice decor, and great service. Once you have gone a few times, the waiters( Joseph + SAntos are the best), the bartender - Jerry, and manager will greet you like you're having family dinner an grand-ma !!"

"From the moment we walked in we were treated as special guests. The service was outstanding & each of the dishes that were ordered were outstanding as well. I felt as though as I back in Italy, it would be very hard to choose whose antipasti was better & the same goes for the main course. Eggplant cooked to perfection, Chicken Scaparelli with just the right amount of heat, pasta aldenti, what more can I say. This was a great neighborhood find & we will be back."

"Delicious food and fantastic, attentive service. Our only problem was the chill produced each time a customer opened the front door. The owner should consider adding a heater in the vestibule. The room closest to the entrance is drafty. Everything else is terrific."

"The food is very good and the specials are innovative for a neighborhood Italian restaurant. They have the best wine list (diversity and price) in the area. And the wait staff is wonderful."

"The restaurant is located next door to a pizza place, owned by the restaurant, it does however have a separate entrance.
The menu is extensive with traditional Italian dishes, but also has added creative dishes. Service was warm and friendly. We were a group of eight, and waiter didn't write down anything, very competent.
Anything you want is available, anyway you want it prepared. I opted for what I considered a creative dish. Shrimp in a cream sauce flavored with Sicilian blood oranges. Orange cream sauce was delicious, with just the right amount of flavoring.
The limoncello gelato was fabulously refreshing and unique with a limoncello center.
If food is more important to you, than a newly decorated high tech establishment, t"

"This restaurant never disappoints. While I have my "favorites" on the menu, I enjoyed a salmon special which surpassed me expectations. Service is consistently outstanding, and the quality of the food is always top-knotch."

"My friends and i had a very nice evening at this restaurant! The food was delicious (as usual) and the waiter was very attentive to our needs. It was the first time some of my guests had dined here, and they're looking forward to returning."

"There are few restaurants more fun than K U. The staff is friendly as can be, sincerely so, and the service impeccable. The food is plentiful and delicious. The usual red sauce stuff and so much more! Interesting wine list, reasonable prices."

"My boyfriend and I had a great experience here! I wasn't sure what to expect because their part of Hempstead is a tad shady, to say the least. The restaurant was also quite empty. There were probably only 5 tables (mostly birthdays) when we arrived at 8:30 on a Tuesday night. Regardless, the staff was exceptionally well-mannered and accommodating. They were courteous and gracious, despite how quiet it was. I really appreciated that, being in hospitality. The food was good - we ordered risotto cakes as an appetizer - pan fried in a filetto sauce, which was good but not exceptional. The spinach agnolotti and braised beef cavatappi were delicious, with the highlight being the agnolotti in a white wine cream sauce. It was divine!"

"This was my first visit to Umberto Restaurant and I was left speechless. The ambiance was absolutely exquisite. Very attentive staff yet not pushy. We started at the bar with drinks...very relaxing. We dined and our waiter was knowledgeable, patient and accommodated our needs. Can't wait to return, loved it!!!"

"A neighborhood, suburban, Italian restaurant with a pizzeria attached. The wine list is a respectable length, everyone enjoyed their food. The menu has the old stand-bys you expect, well made. We went with a group of 6, late on a Tuesday night, and received good, patient service."
