Wine and food are natural partners. Passion and creativity make for a truly unique and educational wine tasting experience. At the Mayo Reserve Room three chefs work with seven vineyard-designate small production wines only available at the tasting room. "My husband and I had a great experience here. I think I finally 'get' the food pairing thing now. Clayton was knowledgeable and unpretentious. We really had a nice time...and I found out that while I am not a fan of lamb, in general, I do like lamb tongue!"

"I took my husband to the Mayo Reserve room for a food/wine pairing for his birthday. He loves and appreciates good food and wine. We were there on a Friday afternoon at 1:30pm and we had the place to ourselves. The Chef greeted us and we picked a table by the window. There were menus at each table setting along with 3 wine glasses. He explained each of the wines he poured and then brought out the food to pair with it. Each appetizer was beautifully presented on a plate which held 3 appetizers on the first round and then we had an additional 3 appetizers come out for the second round of pourings. The Chef did an amazing job of telling us about the food and how it complemented the wines and vice versa."

"Rarely do I come across a place I enjoy so much. I can't wait until I can bring some of my other foodie friends. I thought I knew what I was getting into with a food-wine tasting, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I can't believe how much I learned! Chef Clayton Lewis was so informative in his explanations of how the food enhanced or even changed the characteristics of the wine. And he was oh-so patient with our questions. This was truly one of the best food experiences I've ever had. I even discovered that I like red caviar - look at me grow!!"

"This was our second visit to the wine room, and the experience was just as wonderful as the first visit! The chef presented a great assortment of small plates, paired perfectly with a glass of wine. A total of six plates and six glasses of wine, what a treat!
What's even better, they offer other local wine in their tastings besides Mayo Vineyard, a nice community touch!"

"Mayo Reserve Room is not a restaurant where you want to drop in at the last minute without reservations. The concept here is to provide perfectly fresh, farm-to-table small courses (up to 7) paired with local single-vineyard wines. And this concept is beautifully executed. Each of the small tapas-like dishes were paired with a wine that most people probably have not heard of, and in each case, the pairing is described and explained by both the sommelier and the chef. Our sommelier was a local with a wide knowledge of local wineries and vineyards. The chef was amazing, combining his chemical engineer education with an artistic flair that results in wonderful, and sometimes counter-intuitive combinations."

"Four of us ate a spring menu at the Mayo Reserve Room. The knowledge that Chef imparted to us when pouring and serving was interesting and helpful. I learned a lot about pairing and chemistry when I asked questions. One of us was "in the biz" and she and Chef had a good time exchanging anecdotes: Chef knows what he is talking about, he is not a poser. The portions were TASTING portions that matched the generous pours. I was full from the 6 small bites plus dessert. The price is very, very reasonable. It was an experience unlike any I have had in the wine country. It was very special, very intimate, very lovely. Highly recommend, can't wait to return."

"We had a wonderful experience with our Mayo team, Kurt and Edwin. This is a food and wine pairing experience in a small venue, where handcrafted Mayo wines are paired with small plates of delicious food prepared on-site by chef Edwin. Kurt met us at the door, served us wine, engaged in interesting conversation and was an extremely charming and efficient host and server. Chef Edwin talked with us about each dish and how it brought out the best qualities in the particular wine, and vice versa. Wines and food were both delicious. This is a terrific experience for anyone looking for a great food and wine pairing experience."

"My husband and I had a truly wonderful time at the Mayo Reserve Room. The food was absolutely delicious and was paired with really lovely wines all set in a beautiful atmosphere and presented by a warm and friendly staff. Clayton, the head chef, was gracious and his sous chef was very informative. The "Silenced Lamb" was particularly out of this world! We would definitely recommend this experience to others."

"Chef Clayton Lewis is the consummate host. He describes the wines of the Mayo Winery with great descriptions, then brings out bites of DELICIOUS food that perfectly compliment them. I mean DELICIOUS. Clayton is personable and fun, and will give recommendations through out the valley. But the main thing is the experience of pairing food and wine, exquisitely.There were seven pairings, plus some champagne, all for $35 pp. A great value, a great tasting and a wonderful time."

"Amazing wine-food pairings. Our host Clayton and the sous-chef Edwin were personable, informative and professional. The wines were generously poured and well explained. The only downside was the setting: the tasting room looked like a bus station waiting room or a rural diner. So unfortunate, as the right ambiance would have made such a nice difference. Great bargain, great food and wine, great hosts. DO NOT MISS IT!"
