Dopo Teatro - Trattoria is a unique combination of extraordinary Italian cuisine, exquisite decor and affordable prices. Located in the heart of New York's Theater District, Trattoria Dopo Teatro is ideal for pre- and post-theater dining, offering a four-course pre-theater dinner for $24.50. Open seven days a week, Trattoria Dopo Teatro serves lunch and dinner daily, including Chef's specials and wine pairing recommendations. Appearing deceptively small from the outside, the restaurant's large main dining room, interior garden, wine cellar, grappa library and two additional private dining rooms, can accommodate a variety of occasions - from corporate events to private parties and elegant weddings. The outstanding food features homemade pastas, desserts and breads, and the service is friendly and professional. It's no wonder renowned New York City food critic Bob Lape calls Trattoria Dopo Teatro " Another star on Broadway!"
"We have been to this restaurant several times and always find the staff and food to be very good. This time we ran into trouble getting into the city. I was with two friends and our train was late. We didn't get to the restaurant until 7:00 and we had a play three blocks away at 7:30. We arrived and told the waiter our predicament and that we were willing to have an appetizer if that is all they could get ready. He suggested a few pasta dishes and had them out in no time. We ate and left and got to t he theatre on time. My friends were quite impressed with the entire operation. And I was thankful. We won't try that again, but it was nice to know that it was possible. My husband and I have been turned away by other restaurants."

"This was our first experience here. Service was great, the pre-theatre dinner was delicious as well as generous and they remembered that I mentioned in the reservation that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. It was a great start to the evening. Would recommend to anyone."

"Not sure what to expect, we made our reservation for 5:30 so we had enough time for 8:00 show. Service was excellent; our meal arrived within 15 minutes of our arrival. The veal Osso bocco was wonderful. Tender and delicious. They also had several vegetarian meals for my husband to select from (which is unusual). Even with the very rich chocolate mousse cake and mixed berry tart for dessert we were finished within the hour. Plenty of time to walk over to the theater. We will definitely be back when visiting the city again."

"Despite its great location in Times Square near the theaters, this restaurant was nothing to write home about. The staff was rushed and unfriendly and the food was just adequate... certainly not our idea of great Italian food in New York City. Overall, our experience there was quite disappointing."

"My girlfriends and I had a very nice Pre-Fix lunch, the wait staff was attentive. The restuarant was not busy on a Saturday afternoon, so we were comfortable. The restaurant is small, and the tables are very close, so on a day that it would be crowded, one would not be able to have very private conversations, however it was good for what we wanted... The fixed price was a good price, however there were only two selections for main entree... We would return!"

"We had eleven people in our party. They were family members from North Carolina and some had never eaten in New York City. After the initial sticker shock, they perused the menu often asking our server - who was excellent by the way - what the dishes were. Several of the men got the Filet Mignon and thought it was the best steak they had ever eaten. Several others of us dined on the various Italian seafood dishes. Everyone agreed that each meal was well-prepared and very tasty. The asparagus was a particular hit - tender and delicious! The only disappointment was the calamari appetizer. It was tough. Also, we were disappointed to discover that the prix fixe menu was not available to parties of 10 or more."

"While I would avoid the adjectives of excellent, amazing, etc., I will say that the meal we received was very nice and actually exceeded my expectation. I chose the restaurant because it was the only one I could find in that area, on Open Table, with 5:30pm openings for a party of 6. So I wasn't expecting much. However, we arrived a little early and were received warmly. We were seated and the wait staff was prompt in offering us water and taking drink orders. The suggestions we received were very helpful in both appetizers and assistance with the wine list. The food was served at a nice unhurried pace by our friendly server who recognized, without being told, we were in no hurry. However, he remained attentive throughout our meal."

"we had dined here prior & everything was fine. we went pre-theatre & there were only a few tables seated, yet it took much too long to even get a drink order placed. the waiter was not concerned at all about us and was extremely nonchalant!! I was actually quite taken back by his overall inattentive demeanor towards us with everything!! meals: the salads were good. the seafood risotto was disappointing - the risotto itself was nicely done, but the seafood left much to be desired. there were 2 normal medium sized shrimp, w/tails, and then some of those "fake like tiny little shrimp" that the chain restaurants use-not good. the calamari was tough & i only ate one of the 2 mussels!! the servers and bus staff were very pleasant !!"

"Excellent restaurant in the theatre district, with quality food for a reasonable price, good wine list, and helpful staff. They have space for large parties separately, but main dining room is reasonably quiet."

"The atmosphere is nice and bright and clean. It's a big place. There's a good size menu, but none of the four of us was bowled over by the food. My husband and I had short ribs with pasta, for instance. There was shredded beef over wide noodles - nothing special. The shrimp in our appetizers and one entree were very small. We waited for a second round of drinks forever. - we finally got hold of another server to find our server. Dessert was so-so as well, and the check was substantial. Probably won't return."

"The food is great but the service, not so much. We sat at the bar while we waited for the rest of our party of seven to arrive. The bartender stayed at the other end of the bar and looked annoyed when we called her over to order drinks. Every time a new member of our party arrived, we had to call her over. When we decided to be seated with just five present, we were met with some hesitation for seating us even though the restaurant was not busy on this night. When we suggested an empty table that looked ready, we were informed that the table accommodated eight, therefore, it couldn't be made available for us. The food was really tasty but the not-so-great service was noticeable when we had to remind the waiter of foods ordered."

"Pre-theater meal. Food was excellent. We had a table I tucked in a corner --somewhat tight. That was the only negative. Would definitely send those going to see a show! Great prices too."

"This was quite possible the best meal that I have ever eaten. The gnocchi practically melted in my mouth, and the carbonara was tender and flavorful. Italian is my favorite type of food, and this restaurant is cleanly at the top of my list of favorites. The location is perfect for someone who wants to walk to a Broadway show after their meal, and the food arrived about 10 minutes after we ordered! It's also romantic with the ambiance, and served as a perfect set-up before I proposed to my fiance. I don't think that I will have another trip to New York that doesn't include a dinner at Trattoria Dopo Teatro."

"On the plus side, we were running late and they still got us out in time to make the theater. However, this restaurant reminds me of the one's in Rome that are set up for tourists. The only thing missing were the pictures of the food on the menu outside the place. I found the food bland, underseasoned and rather disappointing. The service was pretty good. Overall, don't think I'll be going back."

"A really authentic New York Italian restaurant with great food at very reasonable prices for NYC. My daughter said half way through the meal she felt like she was actually dining in Italy which I think pretty much sums it up. Definitely on our list for a return visit the next time we are in NYC."

"A bustling restaurant, especially on Saturday night. We were seated on the "lower level", which was less noisy than the ground floor. Tables were well spaced and the noise level was only "moderate" so we were able to enjoy our dinner. The food was OK, but nothing special. Service was a bit rushed, but we were able to finish our meal, pay the check and make it to the theater on time. This is a good, reliable restaurant for good (if not great) pre-theater dining, in the heart of the Theater District."

"Went there for pre-theater dinner with my parents. I basically chose the restaurant because it was near the theater. The ambiance was surprisingly nice. The service was very professional and fast, but almost a little too professional in that it didn't feel heartfelt, more in a snobbish "let's get these tourists out of here" kind of way. The food we ordered was pretty good, too. Not outstanding, but a solid performance. A little disappointing was that they were out of vanilla ice-cream and other dessert items, and when we finally settled for the lemon sorbet, it came without the berries it was supposed to come with (without a comment). So, all in all it was a quick & good dinner before our show."

"Food was good, service was fast until it was time to get our check them we waited a good 10-15 minutes and there were only 5 tables. They have a "theater menu" which gets out fed and out the door in time for a show. Overall, I would go back."

"Theatre row is hit or miss, unless you are in real bind you can miss this one. They couldn't find the reservation but did seat us. On a Sat, the place was busy, wait staff was attentive and the noise level acceptable,(no music)& we weren't rushed. Food was what was lacking here. Calamari appy was chewy & soggy. Dinners: We ordered 3 pasta dishes from the homemade pasta menu section. Rec'd CHILD SIZED PORTIONS! The pasta, shrimp & asparagus, shaving of asparagus on top, the few shrimp were mealy. The Noodles & short ribs, short ribs consisted of a few shavings off maybe one short rib, gnocchi & cream sauce was just okay. With one bottle of $32.00 wine & 1 coke, ttl cost with tip $150.00. Too much for too little, IMHO."

"If you need a quick, affordable meal before a show, this is a good place to visit. The food was good, though nothing to write home about. We felt very much like a product on a production line that the staff was trying to turn out. No personalized service, very rote. Although not rushed, we were definitely moved along quickly in our meal."
