"Great ambience and decor, hospital waitstaff and hostess, however food was barely mediocre. Salmon was overcooked and bland (I requested medium rate). Some seasoning could have completely transformed the dish."

"I have enjoyed David Burke Kitchen at least 4 times. Their restaurant week offering is always superb! The shrimp appetizer was a work of art and it was very tasty. The short ribs were melt in your mouth. No meal can be complete without the lollipop tree. Service is fantastic, and not rushed. Wines by the glass are reasonable. I will definitely be back!"

"I went with a group of 7 people during the Restaurant Week. We had a great time. The food was very good, much better than what you get in other places with that offer.
Beautiful restaurant, with great atmosphere.
REally good food quality. Really fresh ingredients, good presentation, and innovative flavours. I will be coming back."

"We came here for dinner during NYC Restaurant Week. The menu had a lot of options, some included supplement charges. The highlight of our meal was the monkey bread dessert, which was definitely worth the $15 supplement! We watched as a waiter prepared our portions tableside, topping the monkey bread with ice cream, caramel, and powdered sugar. We were even able to take home the leftovers in a cute David Burke tin! Overall, an excellent Restaurant Week dinner!"

"Not a bad experience, just a few issues 1) weird combination for my main: salmon, with sauerkraut .... It wasn't very good- and to top it off it was mixed in with the whipped potatoes. So very difficult to eat around 2) there was no mention of "lemon" being in the frozen yogurt, which was on top of fresh berries (not very sweet either) so that ruined a bit of my experience- they offered to change my dessert for another one, but I didn't want to risk 'something' being done to it (complaints don't get you far WITHIN the restaurant lol) I'm not sure I would go back, especially for a $6 cup of herbal tea. If you're in the area and happen to get their "pre fixe" deal ($25 for restaurant week) it's worth it, otherwise... Save your $$ for somewhere else."

"If you haven't visited David Burke's Kitchen in the James Hotel, you need to do so. I have been there several times now for brunch/lunch and it never disappoints. The food is flavorful and creative but, not so esoteric that you wonder why anyone would want to eat it. The service during my latest visit was particularly good with the host accommodating my request for seating in a particular area. The waiter was attentive, upbeat and efficient."

"I've been many many times and always had excellent vibrant dishes. This time I was disappointed and was at a loss for why the decline. Chicken pot pie has drama with a large yet tasteless puff pastry but the chicken was nothing extraordinary. Short ribs were fine but again, nothing special. Both dishes are widely available elsewhere so why showcase such things when creative choices are what we need from the Burke name. The only bright notes were in the Skuna salmon that was prepared beautifully. No more marrow bones or other deeply rich dishes...too bad.
Lastly, service has declined and we felt rushed throughout the meal.

"The overall experience was good, however, it wasn't a memorable event. The atmosphere was very vibrant and service was very good. The 3 course select was very good, but the execution was average. For example the shrimp and prosciutto appetizer was just fair. The 3 shrimp were tiny and reminded me of the store brought shrimp ring. The biggest disappointment was the duck breast($10 premium), there was no skin. This is the first time I had duck breast without crispy skin. The " desert " a home made snickers bar was excellent .. The wine list was over the top and selection allowed for only a few wine between 70.00 -95.00. I found the Bella Glos Dairyman a good pairing with the duck and Seaford Pasta main course. The over experience may have been diminished due to restaurant week, but this is a great opportunity for restaurants to showcase their product and David Bruke fell short."

"This is a favorite special restaurant. Very convenient for us. For Open Table Week, the restaurant dinner was confused and slower service, as the restaurant was full.
That's what happens when you have a really good restaurant!"

"Overall, the restaurant was great for restaurant week since you have multiple options available, but beware of supplemental charges. Ends up being $50 for the prix fixe if you want short ribs or meat or any fancier appetizers or desserts. Short rib was absolutely divine though, tender with a great marinade. Peanut butter bar definitely the best dessert in my book. Overall, great place to come for delicious food, but a bit pricey. Only problem was, our reservation was for 7:30p and we did not get seated until a little after 8pm. They recognized the problem and came out with some hors d'oevres, which was nice but if I have a reservation at 7:30p, I want to sit down at that time."

"After waiting almost 15 minutes for a server to come to the table, the manager came over to take our drink and food orders. Our beverages showed up approximately 5 to 8 minutes after our appetizers came to the table, and we had to ask for bread which arrived cold and after we had finished our appetizers. Admittedly, surrounding tables received bread in a more timely manner. There was also uncertainty about who our waiter would be.
The appetizer was an interesting mix of flavors including shrimp cocktail, horseradish, prosciutto, and olives. It was a nice start to the meal, for sure.
The entree portions were very small and the ratios of elements were very off-- the "scallops" would be more appropriately described as an (admittedly delicious, but quite large) fried potato element topped with one scallop that had been divided into three thin slices. The "scallops" were supposed to be seared but were overcooked and unnecessarily tough. The duck breast entree was very one-noted and the stone fruit gastrique was more of a slightly gritty sweet jam puree that permeated the dish. It was not an unpleasant taste, but it prevented any development of flavors and left the dish feeling rather one-dimensional.
The dessert was one of the stronger elements of the meal. I greatly enjoyed the macerated berries. The flavor, for some, may have been too tart and bordering on inedible, but as a fan of tart flavors, the dish was a bright and fresh way to finish the meal. The panna cotta, however, would more appropriately be described as a pot du creme and had no depth of flavor, lack of texture except for a dry crumble on top, and felt like a component of a dessert that had not been fully developed.
Overall, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant to others. Service was subpar(unfilled water glasses, uncertainty on who our waiter was, lack of attentiveness during the meal, etc.) This feels like a lost opportunity for the restaurant. Total rating: 1.5 stars."

"The SEARED SCALLOPS with crispy potato cake, spinach, hibiscus, winter citrus, champagne butter sauce was out of this world. The scallops were cooked to perfection and were extremely tasteful. The MACERATED MARKET BERRIES with rosemary, elderflower liquor, sheep's milk frozen yogurt was incredible.. However, $17.00 for a glass of Riesling Wine is a bit much"
