Winston"s has been a Louisville favorite for 15 years. Sitting on the campus of Sullivan University, Winston's offers diners the opportunity to experience creative food in an intimate environment. Chef John Castro weaves together a menu of diner's favorites, like the Not Brown, Mojo Risin' and a melt in your mouth Fillet with more cutting edge newcomers like 'Deconstructed Pork Tamale' and Kuhio Crab Salad. Winston's is directly off the Watterson Xway (264) at Bardstown Road. The dining room is cozy with 15
tables. Winston's servers are friendly and approachable. Full Bar Service includes favorites like 'Castro Cosmo', Drs. Orders, and a broad wine list featuring wines from most major wine producing country.
"My wife and i loved this place. We were greeted and seated immediately. The brunch menu was great...we had the seasonal omelettes - fresh asparagras, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, onions, tomato and Brie cheese. The green chili and bacon grits were tasty but not overwhelming, and mild enough for my palate. For dessert we had a chocolate and orange creme cake that was definitely for chocolate lovers. The wait staff was very attentive and courteous, and the manager even gave us some tips on flower gardens to visit in the area when we mentioned some of the other places we'd seen."

"We celebrated after a bridal dress fitting and the group with thrilled with the environment, service, choice, and quality of food. My bill for 5 people at lunch was less than other franchise local restaurants."

"Winston's is a great place for either brunch, lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is lovely, the servers attentive and helpful, and the food is marvelous (and cooked by culinary students at Sullivan University in the last phase of their program). Simply terrific!"

"The restaurant has great atmosphere, nice decor, great food and service. The Not Brown was delicious and I will definitely have it again. Brunch with the girls ended with everyone trying a different dessert. Can't wait to go again, maybe on a date night with my husband."

"We were in town visiting family members. I would recommend going for Brunch and Lunch rather than dinner. A family members went for dinner was disappointed that the short ribs were not on dinner menu.Thought food was good.
If you are a fan must have creme brulee and chocolate cake
I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked. My husband had the short ribs which were the best he ever had. Loved that the coffee was French Press. The staff is very attentive even though they were busy.
It is run by the students of Sullivan College which is a Culinary school. I would recommend Winston to anyone going to Louisville My husband's family is from there and the cuisine has not been a highlight of our visits unt"

"One of my favorite restaurants in Louisville, I took my 15-year-old nephew & 11-year-old niece for a pre-movie brunch. This was their first visit. Both of them loved it. My nephew had the Winston's version of steak and eggs; he told me his steak was as ordered/very tender. My niece had the Greek Omelet, which she thought was one of the best she'd ever had. I went a la carte: bacon (prepared as ordered/not overly crisp), toast and a wonderful, perfect dish of grits (which are prepared only on Sundays and containing Chef's whim of the day -- this time, cheese and fresh seafood). Service was on the mark as usual. My niece had hoped Chef might come out to our table, but not this visit I'm afraid. Perhaps next time? :-D"

"Dining room was pretty. Wait staff was friendly. Good wine selection. Food was not at all memorable for the price. Very cramped two- top table. Could hear the conversation of the couple next to us the entire time. Felt like I was dining with them! They were out of both appetizers that were included in our Pre Fixe dinner, but instead of telling us and offering something else, they tried to pawn off egg drop soup as lobster bisque!!! When I questioned the waitress, she feigned ignorance and never got back to us on it. She did the same to the table next to us. There are a lot better upscale dining places in Louisville with better food at lower prices."

"With extensive backgrounds in the food service industry, my companion and I are perhaps more critical than the general public. We felt a bit neglected in the very beginning, with no one asking to take a drink order. We indicated that we'd like to go ahead and order our wine, only to be told "I'll be right back to take your order". The phrase: "I'll put your dinner order in and then bring your wine" should never be uttered by a competent server. The rest of our experience was pleasant. The food was terrific, with one glaring exception, and management was spot on to make amends. However, the server did feel the need to defend the kitchen, rather than simply apologize for a poorly executed entrée. We will definitely give it another try."

"Ordering the small plates was fun! The "not brown" was delicious. I was apprehensive but the fried oysters were yummy. The Pave Beet salad was my fav. The servers are/were student chefs and very knowledgable about the menu. Their menu explanation was on point. I will be going back again to try more things. A must go!! Loved it all around."

"This is a teaching restaurant but it seems too much teaching was taking place on the floor of the dining room. Service was not very attentive but the staff seemed to be constantly gathering to talk. My wife felt that her entree (shimp/scallps and grits) was bland, while mine (pancit and another oriental dish) was very good. We had heard that the food here was excellent but that is not what we felt walking out. And the wines by the glass list seemed limited."

"Have visited Winston's often and am always pleased with all aspects. There was a disconnect during this visit however since our server was in training and still learning. I understand this as the restaurant is associated with the culinary program at the University. There were stumbles that could have been avoided with better supervision. Not notifying us promptly of the availability of certain dishes rather than learning that when making inquiries about the status of those items. Some if the meal was much more bland than I expected but I realize it is at the Chef's discretion. Otherwise a nice experience but not one of the best evenings in regard to the service. Respectfully,John Lloyd"
