Muse by Jonathan Cartwright
Opened in June 2011 at the Vanderbilt Grace in Newport Rhode Island is an all new fine dining restaurant under the direction of Grace Hotels' Group Chef de Cuisine, Jonathan Cartwright. Muse delivers international food and wine with homage to many of the local culinary traditions of Rhode Island. The hotel's restaurant offers selected dishes created by Chef Cartwright including some classic New England favorites. Grand Chef Relais and Châteaux Jonathan Cartwright is one of the most celebrated chefs in New England. He is also executive chef at Vanderbilt Grace's sister hotel, The White Barn Inn and Spa in Kennebunk, Maine – the only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star dining experience north of New York City.

"We went for dinner on a Thursday evening in May, and only two other tables were occupied. How can they survive with so little business? Well, the prices may help them! We were forewarned, and enjoyed an outstanding dinner."

"Great Food, wonderful atmosphere. I would give to 5 stars in everything but the waiter towrds the end of the meal seem to loose interest in us. He was terrific in the begining helping out with wine selection but towards the end he drew his attention to the new people coming in. A truly five star restaurant keeps the level of service 5 star throughout the meal."

"This is probably one of my top 5 restaurants in the country. I travel extensively for work and it is easy to find overpriced underwhelming food in any city but Muse provides high quality ingredients into delectable courses sure to impress the most discerning foodies. My only complaint is I felt over served (food not alcohol). Everything was so delicious that I overate (all three nights - couldn't stay away)"

"We stayed in the Hotel Vanderbilt Grace for a romantic weekend. Started off with dinner at the Muse. Very formal, couples only, boring. The good side: talented pianist playing in the adjoining bar area, waitstaff were very polite & vigilent, food presentation was artful and elegant with very small plates of food arriving continuously throughout the meal. The not so good: atmosphere is boring and stuffy, waitstaff are trying way too hard to be ultra proper but they miss the mark so it is uncomfortable, food was either bad or pretty good. The good: soup, tuna appetizer & dessert. The bad: lobster app was terrible, duck entree was edible but not good. The toughest part of the night - the bill! Crazy, wild expensive and just not worth it."

"Food was excellent. Oysters were not served on ice and were warm but the Blue Points came through. The Mignonette Sauce was excellent. Smoked lobster was delicious (a little chewy). The Pear and Blue Cheese sorbet was interesting. The scallion encrusted tenderloin was perfection. The wine list was interesting and proved to be well paired with the meal. Cheese course was delicious. Deserts were scrumptious."

"We had the prix fixe on Valentine's Day. The desserts were just ok, everything else was terrific. The room seemed a little under staffed. We were not asked about coffee and when we requested it it never came. I think our waiter just had too much to do. The room is beautiful but the mix of traditional and contemporary is a bit jarring. The pianist was just right, noticable, talented, but not intrusive."

"This was our third time eating at Muse and it's the great food that keeps bringing us back. There have been service hiccups during our visits (both for us and what we've seen for other guests), but nothing so egregious that we've wanted to forgo the rest of the dinner service. (For example, during our latest visits the new server forgot to serve us bread until after our entree arrived.)
We consider Muse is a must visit whenever we are in Newport."
