Located at 127 N. Carrollton Avenue on the Canal St. streetcar line, Rue 127 sits in the heart of historic Mid-City. We entertain from a renovated 19th century New Orleans style shotgun home.
Chef Ray Gruezke was born and raised in New Orleans. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Ray has worked in New York, Florida, and Baton Rouge. He recently returned to his hometown to work at Commanders Palace and as a sous chef at Le Foret working with Certified Master Chef James Corwell.
Desserts are created by Chef Joanna Palmer. Also a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Joanna has served as a pastry chef for Commander's Palace and also worked at Cochon.
Rue 127 is a convenient stop centrally located between Downtown, the French Quarter, and City Park.
"Rue 127 is one of my favorite places in New Orleans. It feels like you have been invited over to someone's house for dinner. If you are visiting the city, get out of the tourist areas and see what a real New Orleans place is."

"Excellent quality food in fascinating buiding - a restored 'shot gun' house. Small and cosy Butter lettuce salad, scallops and halibut all delicious Easy to access on Canal Street streetcar. If you are a tourist in New Orleans make the effort to leave the French Quarter and you will be delighted with this restaurant. Entrees 20 - 30 dollars."

"Not all the great chefs are in the French Quarter or downtown. For visitors to New Orleans a quick ride (well at least a ride) on the Canal Street Streetcar will take you to this little hidden gem. Although all the meals in our party of four were exceptional including starters and desert DO NOT MISS THE TUNA ENTREE. This was our twenty-ninth visit to New Orleans and we have developed a list of favorite restaurants to visit. Rue 127 has been added."

"Had a great dinner at Rue 127. Had a 7:30 reservation on a Friday night and were promptly seated. Since we were a party of two were given the option of sitting in a two top right by the hostess station in the main dining room. It was not a bad location. We had drinks and it was one of the best Cosmopolitans I have had. For appetizers I had the Potato and Leek soup which was velvety smooth and incredibly delicious, my husband had the mussels with pomme frittes that could have been a meal in itself. For entrees I had the special of lobster pasta which again was delicious a perfect portion. My husband had the double cut pork chop very good. Desserts were also great. The Smore dessert was beyond words -the Pecan Pie was also fantastic."

"They were running a lobster appetizer that may have been the best thing I've had in this type of restaurant in the last three years. Great cocktail menu too."

"Please stop sending me emails and phone calls. I don't want to be contacted at all. I only used Open Table for reservations because no one answered the phone at the restaurant. I didn't want to be contacted repeatedly and the one thing I didn't want to happen is what is going on. Please remove my name, address and phone number from your system."

"First visit and we're hooked. Food was super. The double porkchop was grilled to perfection. My wife had the scallops: three nice sized scallops prepared to perfection. The appetizers were out of the ordinary for South LA. The spaghetti with little neck clams came in a delightful light creamy garlic cheese sauce. The sweetbreads with risotto were perfectly presented and delightful to the palatte.
A bit pricy for every day dinning-- the meal with one glass of house wine came to $94.00 plus tip. But great for a night out."

"I was very impressed with my dining experience at Rue 127. I'm a regular at other neighborhood restaurants but now I have a new place to enjoy. Each dish is unique in its flavor and presentation. The duck was amazing! The portion size as well as the side choices that were included were my favorties. I like a menu that is specific such as this one. It makes it so much easier to decide what I'm going to eat and it reveals the creativity of the kitchen. The restarunt is the perfic setting for me. It's cozy, not rushed, and relaxing."

"I just love Rue 127, such a gem. No matter what appetizer you order it will please. This time I had the winter salad. It was well balanced with pear to soften the palate, bacon to add a salty after tone, and a nice cheese to add a balanced tartness. As I have eaten almost everything on the current menu I got the double cut pork chop (first time). While it was a large portion, it was cooked perfect and flavored nicely. If you enjoy pork, it is worth it. My date had the salmon; she gobbled it and scraped the plate. Desert was a deconstructed Somores. Perfect ending to a perfect meal, as usual the service was excellent."

"Great place, set back off the street, a hidden neighborhood Gem that has innovative and tasty food. It is dimly lit and can be romantic. In addition, it's good for kids if they like rare tuna, sweetbreads and fried oysters - which my 11 year old daughter does, and did order. Portions may be small but the flavors are big. Highly recommended, very good wine list, will return - soon!"

"We enjoyed our dinner at Rue 127. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. They even waived the fee for our dessert since we were celebrating my husband's birthday. My only complaint was that we had 7:30 reservations and we didn't get seated until a little after 8:00 p.m. Overall, a great dining experience and we will be recommending it to others and plan to return."

"Restaurant and the scallops were highly recommended, but were OK (good). Same as to my wife's pork. Our friends had the gumbo, once again OK, but not out of this world. They were quite busy, so perhaps for that ............"

"My wife and i went for a late valentines dinner. Friendly greeting, seated promptly. Chef was serving a pre fixe menu, which was outstanding. I paired with wine, and was very pleased. Drink were great, wine was great. All together a nice night out. The lobster served with melon on a bed of baby arrugula - simply outstanding. Thank you Rue 127 we will be back."

"We had a great experience at Rue 127. Tight quarters, but loved the New Orleans local art, and really liked the window opening into the kitchen. Appetizers were very good, we had the gumbo, the mussels, and the oysters. Entrees included salmon (excellent), and the chicken (ok, but loved the brussel sprouts and mac n cheese). Only complaint was they were not able to give an entree portion of mussels; that is what I would have liked to have eaten as my entree. Nice wine selection, good choices without being over the top expensive or expansive (too many to look at!) Service was attentive and timely without being intrusive. We will definitely be back."

"This is my second time at Rue 127 and once again it didn't disappoint. The place is small but well laid out and very well run. The food is as good as any of the great New Orleans restaurants. Our server Ashleigh Lyn was quite entertaining and enjoyable. The wine list has some interesting offerings. Highly recommended."

"I have been several times now and, although very tasty, the portion size for the large plates may be a little small and disappointing. On the other hand, some diners might like that contrast to the usual "ugh I can't eat anymore". But then again if it's really great you'll eat it anyway. The small plates have been some of my favorite things on the menu. Get some cocktails. Enjoy the prettiness and the fun window into the kitchen area."

"We had not been in a while and think the additional dining area is very nice. I was disappointed that we had to wait for our table which we reserved, don't remember having to do that the past several times we have been there. The table service was VERY good. The wine selections were good but would like to have more heavy chardonnay on the by the glass list. Appetizers were very good especially the mussels. Our main courses were tasty but was disappointed there was not more variety. My son and his girlfriend were there recently and complained that the portions were somewhat small."

"Great little intimate dining spot in Mid City. Parking is challenging due to the number of restaurants in the neighborhood. Decor is very attractive. Our waitress was more than excellent and the food was delicous. Great dining experience!"

"The food is consistently outstanding in general. Highest praise goes to the toffee pudding dessert. It is truly a winner. In fact, I recommend that you order it as an appetizer and another one for dessert---it's that fabulous!"
