"We arrived and were seated without all of our party being there which I appreciated. Our waiter was attentive and informative and the food was delicious. It was a bit too noisy and I was a little annoyed that they charged for rice and $8 for a seltzer, more than the $6 for a coke. Although the food was good I don't think I would go back so quickly"

"I always enjoy the food here and while the service is attentive, it is a bit snobby- feels a bit like they are annoyed or sneering at you for what you order - you get the feeling like they are looking over your shoulder for a more important customer than you- that said, chicken satays, while not Chinese as I know it, are really yummy- and they offer to bring over more pancakes for the duck when we run out-"

"THis place has nothing but delicious plates and great friendly service. Definately a place to go with your significant other. Its very romantic along with energetic. I had a great time when i went on Valentines Day. The chicken satays are incredible. Pretty much anything you pick from the menu is so tasteful and enjoyable"

"Philippe overall was a good due to the food through pricey. We ordered the Spinach Salad-excellent. Chicken Satay-excellent, Peking duck egg rolls-excellent, and the vegetable spring rolls-excellent for starters. We were disappointed with the entrees. We ordered the Nine Seasons Prawns & a Salmon dish. The prawns were suppose to be sweet & sour with a spicy kick, but we tasted little spice. The Salmon was o.k., but not exceptional. As for the look & feel of the restaurant, it was good. My only complaint is that it was crowded & our table was way to close to the next diners. It made for some awkward stares at each other & ease dropping of each others conversations. The service was not great. Ignored by the hostess, bugged by the wait staff."

"Took a friend there for her birthday and the noise was deafening, even after 10P on a weeknight in the back dining room. I noted it was a "birthday dinner" in my on-line reservation, reminded the host, and still no candle appeared on the dessert. 10 minutes later, a few tables away, they had a sparkler on a dessert and all the waitstaff sang Happy Birthday. The food was tasty, although not superlative, and for all the noise and the lack of birthday support, I would have preferred to go elsewhere."

"This is a solid restaurant for chic Chinese food. Love the crispy duck enough to go back just for it. Beware -- it is incredibly loud and not great for intimate dinners. It's best when you go with a group of five or six so you can get the tasting menu."

"The food was great but we noticed everyone around us got a hot cloth except us. I didn't complain because it wasn't that big of a deal to me but my fiancee was very upset and felt he wasn't receiving the same treatment. But overall the experience itself was enjoyable and the food was delicious. I loved the small but intimate setting. I will definitely dine at Philippe's again!!"

"Philippe was great the food and drinks were very good. The only complaint I have is I had a reservation for 9pm but we were not seated until approx. 9:45pm which was a little disappointing. But Philippe has a great ambiance, great customer service and again yummy food and drinks."

"The service at this restaurant was incredible. We had two waiters and two busboys attending to our table, even though the restaurant was mostly full. The chicken satay, as other reviewers have mentioned, was delicious with a cream sauce that melts in your mouth. We had the 20.10 prix fixe lunch special which was such an amazing bargain. The Beijing chicken, with walnuts, was fantastic. The chicken lettuce wraps were wonderful also. I also had an espresso martini which was so smooth and delicious. A perfect choice for an Upper East Side lunch."

"The Food could not have been better! We all did the tasting menu. We had good service until later in the meal when we lost our waiter. No one came to offer us coffee or dessert and it was my birthday! Finally a different waiter came and served us but I was very disappointed in the service over all. Drinks were dry and I had to go and find the hostess to get our check finally at the end."

"I went to Philippe with my boyfriend as a try-something-new. We were blown away by the food and certainly got what we paid for. The only disappointment was the wine selection...no pinot grigio. This is a well located restaurant and the staff were lovely. Will certainly go back to Philippe when we're in the mood for Chinese food."

"Everything went seemlessly for my mother's 50th birthday dinner. Even the surprise deliveries I ordered were waiting for us at our table when we arrived. Service was excellent. I wish I had our server's name. I've had him as a waiter before and he always does an excellent job. Thanks"

"We loved Philippe. Our waiter had quite the attitude problem when we first sat down, but we spoke with the magager about it and it was remedied immediately.
The only other issue we had was that we waited an hour for our table, even with a reservation."

"Overall a very good restaurant. Service was outstanding! Vegetable
fried rice was too dry but sweet-n-sour chicken was terrific. They
do not have any herbal/caffeine free tea but do have oolong, green
and white teas. The white tea was good, not great, and I am a loose
leaf tea drinker. The dessert choices seemed to be limited on
Christmas Day as opposed to menu on website. We tried chocolate
soufflé and red velvet cake. Of the two the soufflé was better.
We would certainly return to this restaurant."

"Very good restaurant, great food & service. Only complaint is that the two person tables are really close together and super small. You have to be careful with every movement you make once dinner fills the table or you will spill wine on the people next to you. Like I did."

"food is delicious but they don't keep to reservations. granted it was New Year's Eve, but at first they said 15 minutes, then 10 more, then the table was being set. in the end, we were seated 55 minutes after our reservation and the manager's comment was 'at least you'll be seated before New Year's.'"

"The food was average at best. The prices were based on the fact that it is NYC, not on quality. The service was less than stellar. They ran out of chicken for one dish yet served it in another. The explanations were contradictory. I would NEVER recommend it. I am from Canada and me and my friends travel to NY often. I would never suggest this restaurant."

"The food was good, as always, but the prices are sky high. It's tough to justify 700 for chinese food with 4 adults and 2 children. We have been to this restaurant several times but I think they need to stay current with the economy. The restaurant was half full and as a result was not as fun."

"We went to Philippe's for the first time with a party of 5 for lunch visiting from South Carolina. All of us had the pre-fixed lunch. The food was just outstanding as was the value for what we had. The chicken satte was "to die for" with a sauce that just made the chicken appetizer unique. The lettuce wraps were very good with a nice sauce that needed to be used for more taste. The entrees were enjoyed by all with all of the "fried" dishes lightly battered and very tasty. The home made ice cream and sorbet for desert made the whole experience lovely with green tea or coffee available throughout the meal. Go to Philippe's for lunch. A great Friday afternoon of fun."

"awesome restaurant. nice ambiance. little loud and tables very close together. food was delicious. got to the restaurant earlier than our reservation and we were seated right away! chef sent over a complimentary order of peking duck springrolls and although we did not order the mainplate peking duck, many tables surrounding us were eating (savoring) the delicacy. we loved the kung pao chicken, lettuce wraps and the salad!"

"We feel the restaurant is over rated - the prices were too high and the quality of the food was not much better than fast food asian. We were very dissapointed in the service and lack of knowledge from our server. We dine out over 500 times a year and experience all types of menues. "Although we showed up 15 minutes early for our reservation, we were seated about 45 minutes late. The waiters were extremely slow in terms of taking down the orders. Our reservation was for 9:30 and we did not eat until 11. However, with that being sad, the food was excellent. If it wasn't for the overcrowding and all the waiting, it would surely be one of my favorite places to go. Unfortunately, I don't see them getting their act together anytime soon."

"been here 3 times and the food is great! only complaint is that they stuff too many tables and they are all small tops so you feel more than cramped in. fun happening place that's consistent. i miss the mint choco chip ice cream, it was among the worlds BEST when they imported it."
