"Really a great evening. Steak and lobster was outstanding - no where in St Louis can you find the menu selections and caliber of food and service as at Al's. Crab cakes and escargot were absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and professional and have a wealth of knowledge. Hats off to the chefs for their consistent excellence. Can't wait to return."

"Professional wait staff. Food prepared to perfection. The ambiance of a high class fine dining establishment of which it is. Runs like a finely tuned Swiss watch. For the money you spend and the value you receive, will you will not find an overall better restaurant that does everything right anywhere else. Highly recommend."

"The next time you go out to dinner, you need to go to Al's in downtown St louis. Al's is located just east of the Ram's football stadium, a few blocks north of the Arch and a short walk north of the Lumiere Casino and the Four Seasons Hotel. The food and service are outstanding and you will not leave hungary. The wait staff are dressed in tuxedos giving Al's that special touch of a first class fine dining establishment. The restaurant has been at the same location since 1925 and is still owned and operated by the 3rd and 4th generations of the original family making it one of St Louis's most treasured landmarks. Try it the next time you are in Downtown St Louis, you will be glad you did!"

"Went to Al's on wine Wednesday where my bottle of wine was half off. Really enjoyed the service, food and atmosphere. Serving portions are large so you always have some left overs for lunch or dinnner the next day. Definitely the best Steak and Seafood Restaurant St Louis has to offer. Prices are lower than the chain Steakhouses and the service at Al's is tableside. Classic oak wood walls and high back leather chairs and a riverboat bar like no other you have ever seen. A must restaurant to go to if you like Steak or Seafood."

"Love the ambiance of this historic restaurant and of course the food and service are the best anywhere. Arrived early enough to enjoy their T-Rav Tuesday special in the bar before dinner. Everyone should experience this bar, besides the great drinks and bar appetizers, it has to be one of the coolest bars around. There is so much back story and history to this place, it just enhances the overall dining experience. The steaks and oversize lobster tails will keep me coming back time and time again."

"It was wine Wednesday, so I got my bottle of wine for half price. The restaurant was very busy tonight and for a busy night my service was excellent. My steak and lobster was cooked to perfection. After dinner I had a drink in the river boat lounge. It is the most interesting lounge you will ever see. The mural depicting the St. Louis river front and steamboats going down the great Mississippi river back in the late 1800's is amazing. If you like great food and service and you have never been to Al's you really should give it a try."

"Simply the best restaurant St. Louis has to offer. Not an empty table in the place tonight. The atmoshere was vivacious. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. The lobster bisque soup was the best that I have ever had. My New York Strip was big, tender and delicious. I also received a house salad with my dinner at no extra charge! You also receive table side service at Al's a lost art among the fine dining restaurant industry. Just another value added service that separates Al's from the rest. Can't wait to go back."

"Had a wonderful dinner at Al's. The server was very attentive and the food was outstanding. The lobster bisque was the best I have had by far, it had a lot of lobster in it. My entrée was cooked to perfection. I had a petite filet mignion. My overall dining experience was superb and I can't wait to go back."

"The staff was attentive without being overbearing. The selection of steaks and fish are extensive along with options for preparation. It's a shame the neighbor hood it's located at comes across as desolate, but once inside that is quickly forgotten. The attention to detail by the service is outstanding. I'll definitely return."

"Last year when we went to Al's I couldn't quit raving about how that it was. This year however, very disappointing. We had "Harold" as our server. He scoffed at us when we didn't order drinks. Last year we had the "accommodation" appetizer (enough for 2ppl), a ceaser salad prepared table side, filet stuffed with Crab meat and salmon filet. Total cost $105 This year, we ordered the same thing. Except he made it clear he would not make a ceaser salad by complaining about another waiter getting "stuck" making one. My filet was dry, I couldn't eat the imitation crab meat, and when the bill came $129. He had charged 4.50 for an extra beef tip (to make 2 total on appetizer) and $7 for the sides he said was included in the price."

"Great, superb dining. Ran into some friends in the bar (which by the way is really unique, cool & historical all in one) and we decided to dine together. Had a great evening. We appreciate that Al's is upbeat, yet the table feels private and you can actually hear your conversation. Harold made an unbelievable Caesar salad at the table - nothing premade at Al's. Steaks were top-notch, pasta & vegetables cooked exactly right. Our friends had pre-ordered chocolate souffles - what a grand dessert and oh so delicious. Al's is consistently 5 stars!"

"Wine list was very limited for a restaurant of this price range. Very few Italian wines, and no Italian Pinot Grigio. Waiter was less tha helpful. When asked for his recomendations he would say, "depends on what you like" or some other similar copmment. When we entered the restaurant, there was no Maitre de, I said my name and party of 8. Our waiter said, "I had it down as pary of nine, I will have to change the setup. Original reservation was for 9, I emailed the restaurant direct to change it to 8 and I received an email back acknowledging the change. Waiter made it plain he thought I made the mistake."

"Al's defines Fine Dining. Food is incredible, filet so tender you can cut it with a fork. We started with crab cakes with a mango chili peper sauce. The seabass with shrimp sauce was light and flakey and flavorful. Our sides of spinach augratin and Italian potatoes were equally tastey. We shared a strawberry shortcake to finish the evening. Al's still pays attention to the details; the food and service were excellent. Portions are very generous and the prices, while not cheap, are not out of line and actually reasonable for the quality and quantity. Also, love their bar, nothing like it anywhere."

"What a great dining experience! Had cocktails first in the lounge - Al's has one of the coolest bars/lounges I have ever seen. Dinner was fantastic and our waiters were perfectly attentive. Finished the night back in the bar for brandy alexanders, of course delicious. Al's delivers the full package for a wonderful evening."

"On a cold night in STL with about 10 inches of snow on the ground, Al's was the perfect fix. The steaks were amazing, cooked exactly how ordered (including very rare). Appetizers at the table included crab cakes (some of the best I ever tasted), and excellent scallops. The side vegetables (including asparagus and broccoli) were perfectly cooked. The staff members were warm, welcoming and helpful without being obtrusive."

"We had not been for a while but the dinner was good not great as we had hoped. We asked for items on the menu but were told "not tonight" and that was very disappointing. Our waiter said something about not having sufficient staff or something like that. The deserts were plain and nothing prepared at the table. It just was not as special as it should be."

"Admittedly it has been some time since I dined at Al's. We arrived early, and the odor of cleaning (or something) was still in the air, which did dissipate after a while. Wait staff was attentive and obviously experienced. Escargot was tasty, salads were fresh (choice of dressings were a bit dated), entree's were OK, but nothing special. Quality of the steaks was acceptable but not outstanding, as one would expect in a steak house. Scallops and lobster may have been fresh, but didn't taste like it. All in all, I have paid considerably less for better. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but from this experience we will likely not go back."

"Great restaurant, everyone is very accommodating. Excellent food served with presentation and flair. Al's is a classic with all the right touches to remain true to their history but still have an up-to-date, modern appeal. I hear they have been around for eighty-something years and I can understand why. You can tell there is pride in this family owned business. Our steak romano, lobster and Al's pasta was outstanding. Huge portions, excellent food and service."

"Classic, elegant superb dining. The consistent quality and attention to detail is a testiment to the experienced staff. Nothing more elegant and warming on a cold night like their ultra rich lobster bisque. It is the best I've had anywhere. My sea bass was delicious as was my husband's veal chop with truffle sauce. It happened to be their Wine Wednesday so that was an added bonus to the evening. We sipped on Irish coffee to finish the night. Can't wait to return."

"The food was phenomenal and our service was great! We had never been to Al's before but were very impressed with everything from the delicious appetizers (escargout and crab cakes) to the beautiful salad with house dressing to the delicious filets and twice baked potatoes. This is definitely somewhere I would recommend to anyone looking for a special occasion meal in St. Louis. Perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, or rehearsal dinners! This is a real St. Louis landmark that should not be overlooked even if the restaurant is a bit hidden on the outskirts of Lacelede's Landing. Take the time and make a trip to Al's!"

"Went to Al's for the first time last weekend. What a fantastic place! It really exudes what a classic steak place should be. Fantastic service, great food and a wonderful atmosphere. I'd recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or just to get away from some of the overpriced, overhyped modern steakhouses in St. Louis."

"Staff is incredibly accommodating. I overheard someone at a nearby table sending back their meat for not quite being done right, and it was carried off without a hitch or complaint. All minor requests accommodated. Superb atmosphere as well. Apparently soft music is normally played, but the system wasn't working when I came in."

"Food was good but not outstanding for a restaurant of this caliber. The small filet was burnt on the outside and rare on the inside but was ordered medium. I guess it averaged out. But it still had a good taste. I thought the twice baked potato was nothing more than a potato carcass filled with cheese sauce. It was good but you really couldn't call it a potato. The service was absolutely outstanding I don't know how it or the quietness could have been better."
