Named after Henry Comstock and the famed Comstock Lode, which brought mining fortunes to the City by the Bay, Comstock Saloon occupies a historic space that has served as a watering hole for San Franciscans since 1907.
Renowned bartenders Jeff Hollinger and Jonny Raglin of Absinthe Brasserie & Bar, partnering with Bill Russell-Shapiro and the Absinthe team, continue this tradition, offering patrons refined turn-of-the-century saloon fare, and assortment of snacks, and a menu of classic cocktails, such as Negroni and the Manhattan, in a setting that preserves the saloon's historic design elements and pays tribute to San Francisco's Barbary Coast. Chef Carlo Espinas, former chef of Piccino Cafe, oversees the menu.
"Did dinner here with a party of four--table was immediately ready, and we were treated to great food and very good cocktails (which were speedily served in addition to being well-crafted). Would definitely recommend and return."

"Went primarily for the cocktails. Sazerac was not so good. Asked for the Bartender's Whimsy, and they brought a Vieux Carre, which was outstanding. Got their Po' Boy for dinner. It's not really like a New Orleans Po' Boy (although they claim otherwise), but it was good enough. Overall, they were very accommodating of our group, and the service was good."

"Really good cocktails and snacks/appetizers. A bit crowded just after happy hour, so I'm glad we had reservations. My overseas guests loved the Barbary Coast theme, it was fun to take them there.
Will definitely try to come back for the Friday lunch special!"

"Very cool place that takes you back in time. They really commit to the theme without being tacky or costumy- the host has a real life handlebar mustache that never ceases to impress. The food was good, the live band was fun, and the bar was fantastic.
My one gripe is that I found the place thanks to the 7x7 review of the pot pie, and this was no longer on the menu. I had the Fisherman's Pie which was relatively good, but I would have really liked to have tried that pot pie."

"We had an amazing time... My friend is vegan and they made her a special dish on a Friday night which I thought was extremely nice of them. Good cocktails and live music"

"I have tried to have a cocktail a few times, and the bar staff are always a bit rude and never really got the impression they wanted my business. But since I live near I still wanted to check out the place, so I finally made a diner reservation for 4.
We ordered, drinks came, food arrived, and all of those were very delicious. But, I had to shut the wide open door 4 times in 15 minutes, and after placing my jacket on in the dining room I was done with this place. The dining room was half empty all night, and now I know why. CHECK PLEASE.
I can't recommend because the staff at Comstock are broken, bitter and rude."

"We only chose this place because we could not get to another restaurant due to being blocked by a parade. Given the "saloon" name, I had low expectations for the food and was preparing for a liquid dinner. However, the food was EXCELLENT! The "snacks" are well worth the $$, the homemade gnocchi was superb as was the rabbit and the steak was as it should be."

"Dinner at comstock was great! I'd be there a number of times for drinks (which are delicious), but this was my first time eating there. Definitely not very vegetarian friendly, but my boyfriend and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals!"

"My second time eating here. Love the large booths, makes it private in the midst of a fun bar scene. Food was spectacular. Got the gnocchi, which was not like any other that I've had. It was almost toasted, not sticky or soft like gnocchi can be. Great experience, live music was a great touch. A fun, vibrant atmosphere, great cocktails and an excellent meal. If that is what you are after, this is definitely the place."

"I love the hipster meets old-timely saloon atmosphere at Comstock, its a great spot for drinks. The live piano is an extra-special touch. I have to say though, I have been underwhelmed by the food there, which I thought was a fluke the last time I went, but it was confirmed on our last visit. I had the gnocchi, which wasn't bad, but it wasn't anywhere near great either. Verdict was the same for the fisherman's pie. They both lacked flavor and even salt. And the server was totally grumpy from the minute he first approached our table. Didn't crack a single smile all night and seemed annoyed for no reason. For the price of a meal there, it just doesn't seem worth it, there are too many great restaurants in this city!"

"My friends and I went here to celebrate, and we were treated like WE were the ones that caused the plastic found in our dessert, drinks arriving after main courses, and 'whimsey' style cocktail that were undrinkable. I have lots of patience, however when we finally addressed the ongoing problems, the manager treated us very poorly, as if we were an inconvenience to him; unfortunate because this is known as a fun spot, with great food; will likely never return."
