Since its opening in 1974, prime steaks and martinis have never gone out of style at this Palo Alto institution. The atmosphere is very clubby with fireplaces, dark wood, sports memorabilia and plush leather booths tucked into the many nooks throughout the dining room. Famous for their slow-roasted prime rib & hand-cut U.S.D.A Prime Steaks, they also offer fresh seafood, cold water lobster tail & succulent shellfish. The 23 oz. "We had a very long wait for a special table. We were given very nice trays of appetizers for the six of us at no charge. It was worth waiting for a quiet table in a private room. A waiter sang a birthday song to my son. Two couples split dinners with no problems. We were also given a free ice cream for a guest who was allergic to nuts. This was altogether a good experience, and the food was very good."

"Saturday May 11- decided to surprise my husband for his 65th birthday celebration and hosted two of our daughters and their husbands at Sundance. We had an 8:00PM reservation and were seated promptly. Ordered drinks, appetizers and our entrees as we had already waited a long time to place our order. We never did receive the two appetizers we ordered and our dinner was not delivered until 9:30! When our dinners finally did arrive they were not delivered together. My dinner was cold by the time everyone else received their entree. No birthday mud-pie was brought to my husband either. The bill was over $400!! We rarely spend this kind of money on a meal out. Hugely disappointed and embarrassed. Terrible experience."

"I'm bad at reviews.
But I think you are getting what you pay for here. The quality of the cuts are great considering what you pay for.
I don't know if I should be comparing to other steak houses like black angus and outback, but I am going to use that as a bar.
A bar that this place exceeds very well in the quality of their meats. Considering you pay more, you'll definitely get a more satisfying steak.

The ambiance wasn't that great in my opinion, the night I went they were playing some elevator music. It felt awkwardly out of place compared to the scenery.

"We went for Mother's Day weekend 2013. Took our daughter for her 1st Mother's Day dinner. Food was excellent staff professional and very accommodating. Prices were great. They had an early bird special which runs from 5-6 and an extensive menu to choose from. Very good wines. Icing on the cake is their Mud Pie which is the best I've had I a long time. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"Went on a Wednesday night, 6:45pm , party of 3 with reservations. We were seated in the middle of the floor which wasn't the best. This is a busy restaurant with lots of "business meetings/parties". It (the large loud groups of people) sort of ruins the fine dining atmosphere/ambiance. The food itself (steak and seafood) is delicious.
Wait staff and bussers were kind and polite. Hostesses need a bit of work on being more polished and giving a professional presentation."

"Although it is on the small side- the restaurant gives the illusion of being a large space with many nooks and crannies. The last time we were there I had the most delicious rack of lamb I have ever tasted. My son said this restaurant serves the best steak hands down. This time, although disappointed there was no lamb - I had the shrimp which were delicious as well.
The waiter was helpful and well versed in the menu selections - but hurried us through our meal. The busboys were attentive and kind..There was some confusion when we came in between us and another party - but quickly resolved.
I would recommend highly to friends and we will return to Sundance again. Love it."

"I try prime rib everywhere I go and have to say that this is the best prime rib I have found in South Bay. This steakhouse specializes in prime rib and you need to go early or confirm they still have it, as the restaurant tries to accommodate even the later groups with prime rib, but it is the most popular item on the menu...and can end up 86'd for the evening.
I like the fact that they add a starch and vegetables on your plate included with the order. Many nicer steakhouses make you order the sides family style and you end up paying more.
What are you waiting for? It's worth the trip."

"This is a pure surf and turf restaurant with a "guys-guy" atmosphere, including vintage hunting and fishing apparatus on the walls, and dark colors with dim lighting. It is perfect for taking engineering groups or clients who want meat! They do meat and fish well, and have pretty much any combination of surf and turf you may want, with all the basic sides, and they do not skimp on flavor or quality. The waiters are very friendly, old school style, and they get food out quickly and accurately. Their cocktail, beer and wine lists are fairly standard, but they serve standard fair cocktails well (such as Martinis, Manhattan, etc.) Vegetarians can order pasta and/or salad."

"I skipped lunch to take advantage of the before 6PM dinner deal. My group was seated promptly in a nice booth at the front. The waiter was courteous and the warm sourdough bread came quickly and was tasty. I ordered the calamari appetizer which was lightly breaded with a tangy dipping sauce which we all enjoyed. I ordered the prime rib, fully loaded baked potato and Sonoma salad. The prime rib was a bit undercooked and one of us sent it back. The steak skewers was a generous portion and the quality of the prime rib and steak was very good. The sonoma salad and ceasar salad was tasty and a good size. Overall very good food in a quiet, intimate setting. It was a Saturday night and the food came a little slowly. Definitely a good deal."

"My husband was craving for good prime rib. Since it was a Saturday night and it was rather late (8:30), our server immediately asked who was having prime rib so he could rush to the kitchen and make sure that our portions were reserved for us before coming back to take the rest of the orders. The sourdough loaf was served warm (almost hot!) was delicious. The seafood that we ordered, from the perfectly chilled raw oysters on the half shell to the seared ahi tuna to the halibut (special for the evening) was deliciously fresh. The prime rib was excellent and cooked to perfection."

"Our group of five old friends were seated in a secluded booth which was wonderful for conversation because it was quiet, but the servers kept forgetting us and we waited close to half an hour before getting drinks and ordering. Everyone enjoyed their dinner choices - prime rib and salmon, and the salads were great. I especially liked the one with arugula and strawberries. We would request this table if we were to go again, but would let the server know when seated that we would appreciate not being forgotten off in our corner."

"I have been a few times and have always thought the prime rib was the best anywhere. When we went this time, I was a little disappointed in the prime rib. Everything else was great, but the prime rib was not as tender or flavorful as it was the last few times I went. It wasn't bad, just not amazing (which you kind of expect from a prime rib specialty restaurant when you are paying 30-45 just for your entree). Fantastic service, great drinks, etc though."

"Cant get enough of Sundance. The food is consistently excellent, as always; great service. We were a party of 4. Three of us had the Prime rib which was great as usual, but the pest was the Kobie beef special. I never experienced a better steak than the Kobie."

"My husband and his cousin enjoyed their steaks. I had a salad and crab cakes, which were good, but not extraordinary. The restaurant featured comfortable, intimate booths, which we appreciated since they made conversation easy. My only real complaint was that our waiter couldn't wait even 2 seconds upon arriving at our table for one of us to finish a sentence. He must have interrupted us at least ten times during our meal, and showed no awareness that he was being far more disruptive than helpful. (The busboys were much more discrete.) He was at least ten years younger than me and insisted on calling me "young lady," which I found somewhat disrespectful. My husband might go back, but I doubt I will."

"I brought my wife here for her birthday. We got here just around 5pm to catch the Sunset Dinner. She got the slow roasted prime rib and I got the sirloin steak. Both were excellent, and are highly recommended."

"Our second visit was equally as enjoyable as the first. The "Sunset Special" is the best deal in town. It draws a huge crowd, but you never feel rushed. Quality and portion of entrees excellent. Highly recommend to others and can't wait to return."

"We went for my hubby's b-day and I had put on the reservation that information. It was very nice that they delivered him a slice of mud pie with candles on it to him and even better that he was surprised. We also brought my 8 year old and she loved her dinner. She hasn't been anywhere before that had prime rib on the kids menu - yum!"

"We took our family there for our son's 50th Birthday. The food was excellent, the server great. It was a Tuesday night and the restaurant was packed, but we could actually have a conversation. With the restaurants different seating locations, it is not noisy. We love this restaurant."
