"Always enjoy this place but tonight was a bit annoying. They had a private group that was wine tasting. It was annoying because they were explaining the wines to the very large group. It was loud enough to interfere with our dinner conversation but it was not loud enough that we could hear what was being said. I was there for a very special occasion and it was ruined by the long dissertations re the wines. Perhaps they should make it a wine tasting event for the entire night with everyone participating or they should either book the entire restaurant for the event OR warn me when I make my reservation."

"I have been here a few times and its always 5 stars. The service is excellent, the staff is always extremely knowledgeable about details of each dish and make perfect suggestions. The flavors are incredibly well balanced, inventive, and seriously tasty!
Considering the level attention by the staff (hostess to waiter to bar) and the freshness and complexity of this 'foodie' friendly place I would expect to see higher prices - but the fact is everything is very reasonable."

"My husband and I enjoyed this place. We loved the food. I had the delicious fois gras - hard to find dish that was outstanding. My husband had the pork tenderloin and loved it. We've been traveling for 4 months, mostly eating out, and this restaurant is one of our favorites. One small problem - coffee was lukewarm."

"We had a 9 PM reservation and we arrived at 8:45 We gave our name to the hostess and we were told to wait at the bar . After about 30-40 minutes my husband went to the 2 hostess and asked why it was taking so long, they actually looked at each other surprised as if they had forgotten us made a quick reference that they were clearing the tables....another 15 minutes went by and this time I approached them again and asked what the hold up to which they replied again in process of setting the tables. We didn't get seated until after 10 PM...the food was good and the water boy was constantly refilling our glasses. Our waiter had been good until he brought the bill we paid left him a good tip..not even a thank you hope to see you back.."

"I took three out of town business guests to dinner at Ortanique so that they could savor the Caribbean atmosphere so unique to Miami. The food was excellent as was the service, and the atmosphere was definitely Miami. Some of the dishes are just too huge for one person, but despite the warning by the waiter, one in our party ordered one of those and managed to finish it. Some of the dishes are also quite pricey ($45+), but you can eat a delcious, reasonable portioned dinner for about $30-$35. Overall a good choice and good experience."

"Ortanique generally offers outstanding food and excellent service. I had been there before, and had a really great experience. However, on this occasion, I was disappointed about the service. I had made an 8:30 reservation for a special occasion dinner, and asked for a private table. Despite the reservation, our table was not ready until 9:25pm. In addition, the table ended up being the most non-private table imaginably, right in the middle, and by the entrance. As always, food was excellent but we were disappointed about the long wait (we had a babysitter and were on the clock) and the lack of consideration with regard to the special seating request."

"The food was good, Caribbean but not particularly imaginative. It had a bit of a chain feel. The margarita and Mojito are excellent. Rum cake was excellent. We had two waiters, which they told us was intentional. It did not work well. They kept repeating themselves, and then neither would bring what we asked for, which caused us to have to repeat ourselves. Almost $200 for 2 people, though we had a few drinks, dessert, tip."

"I chose Ortanique to celebrate my birthday..again this year. A great choice. The food is interesting and excellently prepared and presented. This is a favorite for an elegant dining experience with good food and good service. The prices may seem high, but it is definitely worth it. My husband had the lobster in truffle cream sauce with pasta - which was absolutely delicious - just the right amount of truffle and not overly heavy. I had the West Indian Cornish game hen with piquante brown stew sauce. It was perfect! And, desert, Oh!, a flourless chocolate cake that sent your taste buds dancing. "It's a hip, sometimes loud, upscale Latin/seafood restaurant - and I absolutely love it. I do not live in the area, but travel here on occasion for business, and always make it a point to go to Ortanique. I always host a group of business associates, and they always love the place - and the food - and the service. Five stars all around - my menu favorites - the bouillabaisse and the seared ahi."

"This is a great restaurant. Portions were on the small side but the food was outstanding. For an 8:00 reservation they did not have our table yet at 8:30 so that was a little annoying. Incredible wine list also. Overall, would definitely go back again."

"We discovered this restaurant from a food app, made a reservation so easily on Open Table. This restaurant is a MUST if you are in the Coral Gables area. Gourmet dishes, with a local flavor. Large portions. Gets crowded so don't try to walk-in, use Open Table for the reservation."

"We were a group f six. The table felt somewhat crowded but I believe it was not because the table was not adequate but the placement in relation to other tables, walkway for serving staff, etc. Tables felt way to close together and this made it noisy depending upon who was sitting nearby.
That said, the food was delicious! Very tasty and flavorful. We all enjoyed our food. We were going to the theater and were unable to have dessert. We all mentioned we were disappointed we did not have the opportunity!
I would recommend this restaurant to diners. I would recommend fewer tables or different table placement to the restaurant!"

"Food was fantastic. The restaurant was recommended by the hotel we were staying at and we were very pleased. Only downside was speed of service. We arrived as one of the last reservations and food was coming a little to fast until we asked them to slow down. All good after that. A real gem."

"a classic.. this time we were caught with less than adequate service because of a very large party. the hostess treated us to complimentary wine and dessert to make up the delay. the noise was over the top. this is a great place, but sometimes these things happen. I was pleased they took care of us as we took out of town friends there for the first time.. I also think they need to add specials to the menu for those who come regularly.."
