Inspired by the work of Adolf Loos whose "American Bar" was designed & built in early twentieth century Vienna. The bar captured an elegance in simplicity; a style that greatly influenced the work of Frank Lloyd Wright & other American architects in the "prairie school". "Although we've only been to LUXBAR a couple of times, recently thought of it, as an after theater dining experience. Place was lovely, and ambiance was very nice....Service was HORRIBLE!.....Our waitress, LIZ, never came back to our table after taking our order....although she passed us MANY MANY times...to attend to a table of eight... NEVER asked how our food was, if we wanted more tea/another drink/dessert....we had to flag her down to pay the bill.......We'd go back for the food, but not in this B's section!"

"I've been to LuxBar a few times and always had a good time. You have to sit outside when the weather is nice, otherwise it is tough to have a conversation. Inside the bar gets extraordinarily loud. The drinks are good, great wine and beer selection and the food is good too. The appetizer portions are large and are great to share and the staff is always incredibly friendly. If you work in the area it's a great place to go for drinks after a long day!"

"I'm thinking we picked a bad time for our attempt at this restaurant. I'm sure the service is usually much better. It was incredibly loud and packed at 5:45PM on a Saturday? Turns out, this is the place to be for the Kentucky Derby! Don't forget your hat if you plan to attend next year!"

"My boyfriend and I were there on a Saturday night and were seated in the bar area. Toward the end of our meal, a large party came in, and immediately our waitress gave all of her attention to the party guests, and my boyfriend had to go ask her manager to bring our check.
The food itself was only acceptable. I ordered the turkey burger and only ate half because it was very sub par. My boyfriend ordered the steak and was full, but not satisfied with his meal. The desserts were the highlight-enormous and delicious.
Overall, not at all worth the price, or effort. Would never recommend this restaurant. The quality of patron is questionable too. My boyfriend's wallet was lifted, and returned sans his cash."

"We enjoyed our food here but we had terrible service. Our waitress had a horrible attitude and acted like we were asking her to move mountains all the time. If we had to have the same service we would never return but we do enjoy the food so we will probably go back. It is also very loud, so be prepared for that if you are dining indoors!"

As it was St. Pat's Day we had a super treat; The Shannon Rovers stopped in to entertain. What fun! Our only disappointment was the bagels. They did not fit the quality of the smoked salmon plate; too tasteless and pasty in texture. Other wise the food was perfect and the pricing even better. We'll be back when the weather warms up so we can sit outside."

"On a busy St. Patrick's Day, Lux did a great job as usual! It's one of my favorite places to go and I love going back. For the area, there isn't a single restaurant that offers the value Lux does - it looks like a restaurant where you'll pay a lot but they have great prices and the food is awesome too. Especially given how crowded it was (even at 9:30p.m. there was a wait for walk-ins!), and how busy the waitress was, she did a good job checking in. They did bring out a wrong salad but they brought out the correct one very soon after, so no big deal.
I definitely recommend LuxBar to anyone looking for great food at the best prices you'll find in that area. Also, very good service every time you come in."

"We went here for my sister's bachelorette weekend. We had dinner at a different restaurant and came here for desert and cocktails. Everything was great. Our table was ready for us when we got there 20 mins before our reservation. Our waiter was very accomodating when we told him what we were going to do - and even got a special shot for the bride. In addition to the traditional deserts, we had the truffle fries - DELICIOUS! Everyone loved the deserts and the ambiance. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in Chicago."

"This was our first time at LuxBar, we frequent Gibsons often. Gibsons still a favorite! Service at LuxBar was just ok, our waitress was pleasant but not efficient. Busing service lacked! We came to LuxBar for a birthday celebration as I also mentioned in reservation comments. Never any mention of a birthday , not even after I ask for a candle in our dessert.When it arrived I had to ask for a candle, even after telling waitress when ordering a dessert for birthday boy!Will will try LuxBar again, but not in a hurry to return......."

"The service on Saturday was outstanding. We were running late for our reservation due to issues with our cab driver - but the staff could not have been more understanding. From those at the host booth, to the manager who came over to check on us when we were seated. They turned a rough start to the evening completely around. "We have a great experience dining at Luxbar. However, the only problem was that it was extremely crowded and we were seated right where people walk in to ask for a table. This was extremely distracting since people were constantly walking by us and ruined the mood of going out to dinner a bit, especially since it was for valentines day. "Lux Bar used to be my place to go for my favorite burger - Sunrise burger, cheeseburger with applewood smoked bacon and a friend egg. Unfortunately, they took it off the menu so I was disappointed last night when I couldn't order it. The waiter said they could make it, but all they put was an egg on the burger and forget the cheese and bacon! The place is so loud you can't really carry on a conversation; they have all the TVs going at once and nobody is even watching them. I would go again in the summer, when you can sit outside. But not really sure I'll return, cause that burger was my main reason for going!"

"We had a good time at LuxBar. They seated our group of six next to the fireplace, which was very nice. The waiter was amazing!!! He was accommodating to each of us with all our different tastes and needs. The food was good except I ordered the turkey burger which was yummy, but the bun fell apart which made it hard to eat. I ended up using my fork and knife instead. So the whole night was great sans the bun."

"We've been regulars at LuxBar for many years, but won't be anymore. Despite having an OpenTable reservation and there being many unoccupied tables in the dining room when we arrived, the hostess insisted that our party be seated at a high top table near the front door, on a frigid Chicago evening where we received a shot of cold air every time the door opened. Between the high top table and the draft, our experience and my back was ruined for the evening."

"Conviently located to Gold Coast shopping and entertainment, LuxBar filled our bill on a snowy Saturday for lunch. Friendly service, copious offerings for both food and beverages, and then nicely executed, with good server follow up. It was a burger day for us and both the classic and turkey types were excellent! Either a booth for coziness, or a table near the fireplace will make your day."

"Fabulous food and atmosphere. Good service except for the overzealous busboy who constantly tried to take dishes even when we were still eating off of the plate. Same problem with wine glasses. This was most annoying. Also, the waiter was pouring the wine too fast for our taste."

"Lux is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. The food is great and for the area, it is on the cheaper side..and that's difficult to say around there. It's a great ambiance and our service has been great each time we've been there. The short rib is awesome and the apple crumble dessert is delicious.
Definitely will keep going back and highly recommend."
