Executive Chef Domenic Tudda spent his childhood years learning of Italian cuisine while his family owned and operated Stromboli's restaurant in Calgary. He furthered his education by undergoing extensive culinary training in Italy and has been able to continue his parent's legacy of bringing unique and incredibly authentic Italian dining to Calgarians. One of the most revered of these ventures is Ristorante Pulcinella, where Domenic first earned distinction when his international training crossed borders and entered Calgary in the spring of 2006. One of the few APN (Associazione Pizzaioli Napolitani) certified pizzerias in the world, Domenic has been able to showcase his culinary skills, incredible wine knowledge, and passion for Italian cuisine to provide Calgary with a truly artistic, original and delicious experience not soon to be forgotten. Certainly not your classical North American pizza, it's definitely different, but definitely delicious.
"I had been to Pulcinella before and really enjoyed it, but always went a bit later on weekdays. We went on saturday around 5 this time as we had to be at the jubilee by 7 and I found that it was full of families with young children and the acoustics were terrible! We could barely hear each other and had to shout to have a conversation. Was surprised- did not think of pulcinella as a "family"restaurant! Would still recommend, but definitely during the week or later in the evening."

"I found the crust and outside of the pizza to be great....but the center was way to soggy for my liking. It would not be my first choice on a pizza joint in town....there are so many that offer non-soggy centers."

"The food was really great, the atmosphere was a little to be desired... It was super loud, couldn't hear anything well, had to repeat myself several times to our server and to my friends..."

"Picked this spot for my two boys and I to take Mom out for a Birthday lunch, been before for dinner and we really like it. Not anymore, what a horrible experience, delayed service, sorry there was a mix up meanwhile they had walked by us and left us wtih nothing for twenty minutes, the restaurant was far from full and they just watched? Kids were impressed! Service was weak when they finally came over, didn't offer us drinks, had no clue how to serve kids - knives down in front of them, FULL milks, no straws, etc. Mushroom pizza was tasteless, definitiely has changed.
Overall I will never go back to this restaurant again as there is plenty of Neopoltian pizza out there!"

"Lots to choose from on the menu yet not overwhelming. Bruschetta as a start was fabulous. Pizzas were the reason we visited and weren't disappointed. Service was fast and attentive to all our needs. Will definitely return to try more of the items."

"I have been several times. Each time the food has been great, and the service pleasant but uncommonly slow. Previously the staff accidentally sat myself and my friend in separate parts of the restaurant, so we waited half an hour for each other before realizing what had happened. They made up for it by buying our dessert, which was nice. Most recently we waited almost 25 minutes for our reserved table."

"Last couple times here have been a disappointment. This used to be our go to place, but lately the pizzas have been inconsistent. They have been way to uncooked in the center, lacking flavor, or piles of toppings just clumped on without thought. I'm now looking for my new "go-to" pizza place (this used to be a weekly Friday favorite of ours). Not sure what's going on here, but they need to up their game in the kitchen for me to go back."

"Personal preference - I don't like wooden chairs. Uncomfortable if looking for a leisurely meal. The food was less than ideal. Shared a margherita pizza and an order of lasagna. The pizza while tasting fine has the "slippery" middle and charred bits on the crust. I somewhat expected this knowing what I was ordering but I have been to other restaurants that have perfected the Naples pizza and crust is delicious. The lasagna was very bland in taste and really lacked any tomato flavour."

"We were seated upstairs which doesn't have the same vibe as downstairs. As well, I think they have increased their prices since the last time I was there. $24 for an individual pizza is a little over the top."

"We were seated upstairs at Pulcinella's. It was cold, quiet and lacked atmosphere. If at all possible, you should ask for the main level. The waiter was pushing the wine special so frantically it was clear to all of us he was under lots of pressure for sales. And typically, he told us about the wine special but forgot to mention price. On the upside, the bruchetta and pizza were very good. If you can put up with substandard ambiance and pushy waiters, the food is worth the visit."

"the server started to ignore us after we turn down his wine offer, the pizza took about an hour to come and the dough is not crispy, the bruchetta was really good though. the nutella mocha was then recommended by the server, but it has no nutella taste at all."

"The noise was INCREDIBLY LOUD THE WHOLE TIME I COULD HARDLY HEAR A THING THE WAITER OR MY COMPANIONS SAID. It was so loud that it almost felt like a physical attack. I've been to indoor playgrounds with dozens of children that were quieter.
Aside from feeling traumatized by the incredible noise, the food was good and the tiramisu was outstanding. I just need to figure out when it's quiet there, so I can go and enjoy food AND conversation."

"We were seated just underneath a speaker which made conversation challenging. This is not a place for romantic conversation or intimate conversation.
The calamari was probably best we ever ate anywhere in the world. The pizzas, though closer to anything Italian this side of the Atlantic, lacked flavour and the dough was very tough. The appetizers - bruchetta and something I no longer remember the name but made of cornmeal, cheese and rice shaped in a ball then deep fried were equally disappointing. The bruchetta was made from the same tough dough and over cooked. The balls were very Bland. Nothing truly savoury and certainly nothing to merit the sticker price."

"Didn't seem to be enough staff for a Saturday night, and there were problems with the bill for our group of 12 that took forever to solve. Not really indicative of other experiences at Pulcinella but was a subpar experience this time around."

"If you want the best pizza in town come to Pulcinellas. It is true Neopolitain at its best. Our guest, who is gluten intolerant, always has the polenta lasagna. It is spicy and wonderful. Have a fennel salad to start, a bottle of great Italian wine and you are all set. Come to Pulcinellas. You will not be disappointed."

"Our experience at Pulcinella was just okay. Our server brought the wrong drink to our table and after we tried it and realized it was the wrong drink we told the server who then picked up the drink and gave it to another table!! We ended up going over to the table and taking the drink back so that they wouldn't get a second hand drink! I was surprised that this had happened at what I thought was a very classy restaurant! Other than that the food was great but that sort of change our experience for the night."

"Very good but the noise spoiled the experience! Food was very good, the service was very good... But the music very bad and very loud.it's like they want you to eat fast and leave. So I'm not sure I will go again because I can just order pizza or go to another pizzeria like Una."

"We arrived at a half full restaurant and after confirming our reservation, the hotess "had to check something" and phoned "someone" about "something" and we were eventually seated. We ordered 2 apatizers. The first one delivered was not what we ordered. The second, the meatballs we cold - as in taken out of the fridge cold. These were taken back and taken off the bill (we were still charged for the incorrect appy). The pizza we had was fine, the pasta portion was huge, but fairly dry with slightly too tough beef cheeks. Nice enough room, but we will not be going back."

"Always a good option. Pulccinella's napoli pizza is consistently best in class, and has strong options for appetizers and salads. Their pastas are not strong (flavours are flat) and not strongly recommended. Very busy on Valentine's Day. Service was still good."

"We didnt get a chance to eat outside as it was February, but we'll be back.
The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great .
The staff was friendly for the most part, although they seemed rushed, possibly slightly understaffed considering it was so busy. They did their job well though, and we never felt like we were being pushed out the door.
Great place, we'll be back with no hesitation.

"First timer, excellent experience. Despite the location of this restaurant, the parking was not that bad at all. Though I can foresee that this is going to be one of the problem that will probably show up in people's review. The food was good, note that lasagna was amazing, however it does take about 30 min to cook (quoted from our waitress). Service was splendid, the waitress checked on us quite often, to refill our hot water and soft drink, I dig that. Went there during lunch, around 12, we were the first. Does get busy during weekend. Ambiance by the window is nice, don't know about dining room (further back). Overall it's great! Do try their pizza, but watch out for the few burnt spot on the edge, or at the bottom on the pizz"

"Despite it being a quiet Sunday afternoon, we followed the waiter's suggestions and were served some amazingly fresh and delicious food, especially the calamari. The generous tiramisu was delicious, accented with coffee and maple syrup. I wasn't able to enjoy the drinks, but the wine menu was lengthy and the draft beer selection looked great -- another excuse to return."
