"I have been anxiously waiting to try Bistro Margot for a while now and they did not disappoint. I went for Mother's Day and ordered their prix fixe menu, which was a great deal for the food that we got. Portions were just right, so that we were all full, but not overstuffed. Service was attentive, yet unobtrusive. The hostess made sure to seat us somewhere out of the way, so that we weren't bothered by the brunch rush. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend."

"We very much enjoyed our dining experience. All three of us ordered the same entre- filet mignon, and none of us were disappointed. It was perfectly grilled to a medium. I would ask that the potatoes have less rosemary next time, but the other two in my party thought they were just right. And I'm sure there will be a next time and I hope its when its a little warmer so we can dine outside."

"It has been ages since going to Bistrot Margot. We went Friday night prior to a show at Second City (only 2 blocks away). The atmosphere is charming. Though the noise was a bit high, it was not overwhelming. The tables are spaced just far enough apart to allow a sense of intimacy while dining. The cocktails were done perfectly, not too sweet. The waiter helped guide us to a great wine selection. I appreciate that we were not rushed through dinner.
The waiter, Hal, was knowledgeable about the menu. He was very engaging, without constantly being underfoot. He never interrupted us, but he was always available when we needed something.
The food was delicious. All the dishes we had were classic preparations of classic French dishes."

"Among the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. We went for dinner and our server showed little interest in us, or anyone else he was serving for that matter, and it took him about 20 minutes to bring us our bill at the end of the meal. I will not be returning to this place. The food was average, at best."

"We were a party of five. Everyone liked the authentic bistro food. Service was good. We were seated upstairs which is not as crowded and the noise level allows conversation. A great place for a group of friends to be seated. Everyone was thrilled with the value, the bill was so reasonable compared with other restaurants of comparable quality. I had not been at Bistrot Margot in several years and it is good to see that a longtime neighborhood restaurant has maintained its' standards.
A heads up if you are looking for somewhere to celebrate Easter etc. This restaurant has a fixed price menu on many holidays. These are always reasonably priced, unlike most places that quadruple their prices."

"Nice bistro with good food and great service. The guest I was dining with was 20 minutes late so I sat at my table and had coffee, the staff was so nice and accommodating. I had the quiche of the day and it was wonderful. The parking is a bit of a challenge but they do have valet on offer. I would like to return on a nice warm day and sit outside at one of the bistro tables! I will return."

"Our first time at Bistro Margot was a good one. The prices are a bit high. A wine that sells for $11 at Binny's is $39 at Margot. The Brie appetizer was disappointingly short on Brie! The half-sandwich that I expected to be warm, was cold. The bread was toasted but the cheese was cold? The mussels were wonderful and the soup was good. It was a great spot for 4 girlfriends to meet and drink two bottles of overpriced, cheap (but really good!) Chardonnay from Burgundy. We had a great time and our waiter was really pleasant. Perhaps I'll return for the mussels and frites and try the pate'....when it's warm enough to dine al fresco."

"My party of six loved their food. I am a vegetarian and they do not have anything on the menu specifically for vegetarians. The waiter was terrific and said they could modify any of the meals, but really would have liked to see something for vegetarians. Gets a little tedious to my fellow diners that I always have to ask in most restaurants. There are a lot of vegetarians in Chicago and it would be nice to just order off the menu."

"I always get the mussels when I come here, so once again, they were very good. The portion is offered as an appetizer, but it is a large amount of mussels, and will easily serve as an entree, or to share as an appetizer for two. The escargot were good (as always). I also enjoyed the onion soup, though it wasn't as delightful as I remembered - seemed overcooked. My companion's veal was pretty good, and the gnocchi were outstanding. We ordered bread pudding and creme brulee for desserts, both of which were delicious. The scene was very vibrant, as it was a Friday night, and people were dressed nicely. I'll always go back there... next time, for prix fixe. Parking may be hard to find on weekend evenings, but they have 12$ valet."

"This was our second visit to Bistrot Margot, and the first for dinner. Our first visit to the restaurant was in the fall for lunch (we are from out of town). A good friend, who used to live in Chicago, visited the bistro often and highly recommended we try it. We brought friends with us this time, and they loved the experience, too - food, location, ambience. I think it may be a new favorite that we will make a must-visit when we are in Chicago and hopefully can enjoy the outdoor patio the next time."

"We've been to Bistrot Margot many times with good results but this last experience was very disappointing. Easter Sunday so restaurant was packed, but took a long time to be seated (even though we had reservations) and service was very slow. Easter should not be an excuse. Food was spotty. My Tarte au Brie was inedible - way too sweet - covered in honey and balsamic, and puff pastry was dry. My wife ordered the fish and got about half the portion of the table beside us. Entrees and dessert were very tasty as we've come to expect. Not sure we will return based on this last experience. We have always gone because good food and service outweighed the tired and drab environment."

"My group of six came in for Easter brunch. The food was fantastic, and service was excellent. Even though it was obviously crowded on Easter, we never felt like we were neglected, and each course from the Prix Fixe menu came right on cue.
The only thing I would mention is that I made the reservations on OpenTable, and also received a confirmation call from the restaurant, and at no time did anyone mention that the Prix Fixe menu was the only menu available for Easter brunch.
It was still excellent, but a few people wanted to try some normal menu items, and we couldn't. Really, with the rest of the experience, I don't mind coming back to try the normal menu items!"

"We had a wonderful Easter Brunch. The smoked salmon appetizer was outstanding.
I had the lamb,delicious, and my Husband ordered the ham which had a mustard based sauce
that was amazing, along with a carrot compote that we both loved.

"Easter Sunday brunch was a bad time to try to eat here. We had to wait 30 minutes for our table. The hostesses were overwhelmed by the number of people coming in at brunch time. We were told the delay was that our table was cleared but the people were lingering and not leaving. Not acceptable. When we were finally shown our table, it hadn't been cleaned and reset, so we had to wait while the staff did this. Altogether, we had reservations at 1:30 and didn't even get to our table until after 2:00. The food is wonderful, but the lesson is not to go during very busy times."

"We went for Easter brunch. Their 3-course prix fixe menu at $26.95 was a great bargain compared to other restaurants in the area, and the food was excellent, with generous portions. Tables were a little close together for my taste; I heard as much of the conversation at the next table as I did of my own. Service was prompt and friendly without being intrusive.
Highly recommend the Tarte aux Brie -- an interesting blend of sweet and savory flavors."

"Probably our best adventure in Old Town dining to date. More than the food selections--which were very nice--we appreciated the wait staff. Our server, Mikey (sp?)was spot-on wonderful and the water server kept our glasses full without a glance in his direction.
This was an Easter Sunday dinner and I expected mayhem. Instead, we had a lovely family gathering with fine food, fine beverage, and fine conversation (hard to do in most restaurants most of the time).
The tomato bisque was really good, and our entrees were fine. I will go back with my gal pals and hope to sit outside--spring will come eventually, I hope.

"Veal dish was really delicious. Brie appetizer outstanding. Mushroom polenta...still thinking of it. Waiter ,Michael, took care of us just the way I like. Wine list, tres bien and not too $$$. We love France and were not disappointed."

"The duck was served cold -- as though it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. They promptly brought another serving, which was hot. I eat at Bistrot Margot relatively frequently. This is the first time I have had a problem with the food."

"We were next to a large party that included 4 very young and energetic children. This increased the noise level which I suspect was higher than normal.
It took us a long time to get waited on for drinks. After a manager came to the table to apologize, the service was great. They staff then did what they could to make amends.
I would definitely go back."
