Located on the trendy U Street Corridor, Tabaq Bistro features one of the unique rooftops along the East Coast. Halfway retractable, fully enclosed glass rooftop lets the diners enjoy the Washington DC views year around.
Embracing the flavors of the Mediterranean from Morocco to Spain, Tabaq’s tapas style cuisine offers an exquisite blend of fine taste and elegant presentation. Tabaq features food served in small portions to encourage a sampling of many flavors and ingredients of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Small plates include a variety of vegetarian, meat, and seafood delicacies. Our talented chef prepares traditional Mediterranean specialties such as Manti, Dolma and Lamb Kofte alongside seafood delights such as stuffed mussels and fried calamari. Savory sauces enliven many of the dishes. Full sized entrées are offered as well, including lamb, beef, and stuffed chicken. We also do private events for any occassion.
"We went there for a late brunch on a Saturday. The space was way too hot, the 4-story walk up to the roof was long and not really worth the view, food was good but not anything to write home about. At 1:30 the place was weirdly empty, but got a few tables of big groups by the time we left at 2:30."

"Stunning views of Washington Monument and the Capitol from the rooftop. The service at the bar was SO slow. The views made up for it though. :) I definitely recommend this for a night out on the town with friends or a special romantic dinner with an significant other."

"Tabaq has been a weekend brunch favorite for years. The menu is simple but pleasing. The food always seems to taste better than you expect. Just wear sensible shoes for the walk to the roof top. It's worth it though, the view is awesome. The staff are always friendly. Groups seems to do well also."

"When we went the restaurant was pretty empty, but we got there at sunset and saw the lights of DC come on. The roof views were beautiful and there was definitely a candle lit ambience goin on. We got several small plates, all of them absolutely delicious. Service was friendly and speedy. What a great find!"

"This is a very casual place--in decor and food style. It's best visited on a warm day when they can open the windows...the alfresco with a neighbor hood only view is more about the fresh air than the view. Convenient to U street clubs. Not so convenient to hotels around the National Mall. Reasonable prices for reasonable food."

"I picked this restaurant primarily for its proximitiy to the 9:30 club (about 6 blocks away) and secondarily for the menu. At 6:00 on a Monday the place was empty, but we had a nice dinner with an interesting view. the small plates that we ordered were all good, although the risotto was not worth ordering."

"While the food was delicious (loved the chicken/waffles), the service is lacking. Be sure to make reservations for weekend brunch/lunch, even with reservations we had to wait because the line into the roof top restaurant was long and unorganized (granted, not much space and the line is really standing on the steps). But, once we were seated, it took some time before anyone came over to even ask us for drinks...luckily it was a lunch with a friend and we had catching up to do...so, if you have alot time and don't want to be interrupted by the servers, and enjoy good food this is a place for you. However, if you're in a rush, or expect utencils on the table, a cup of coffee within the first 5 minutes of sitting down maybe not."

"We got the valentines day tasting menu, which on paper looked great. Crab cake(s), lobster bisque, sorbet, and a steak. The 1 crab cake I got was crunchy and awesome. The Lobster bisque on the other hand was the worst I ever tasted, as in, I took two bites and then pushed the bowl away, so did my date. The sorbet was alright, we were busy talking, didnt pay attention. My steak was room temp and i didnt get a steak knife. They were busy and my server was really cool so I didnt care. The view and the atmosphere ... 10. The view of the capitol building and Washington monument look great, so does the rest of the city. They play that relaxing, trendy, chill vibe techono music that all hip restaurants do. I recommend eating there at least once"

"Tabaq was a fun, funky place. The food was decent and it has an interesting ambiance. The only downside is all the stairs. It's probably a better place for the young and/or fit. If you have problems handling stairs, I don't know that it's worth climbing four flights of stairs for."

"The food was great, we went for Sunday brunch around 2:00 pm and surprising it was not that packed! We did however, wait a minute before someone came to great us! Also, they have 3.00 Mimosas they are not endless :(I would definitely check it out again I had steak and eggs and it came with a lot of food (make sure you tell them you want home fries if you do not want french fries with your steak I thought it was a little different)"

"We went for a late brunch and it was pretty empty as there were only 3 tables of guests. However, the food and the service was amazing. I highly recommend the chicken and waffle brunch and you can never go wrong with $3 mimosas. My friends and I will definitely be back!"

"This place is a hidden gem - I can't wait to go back. Getting to the restaurant is a little confusing - finding the place is easy, but then you have to walk all the way up to the 4th floor and there isn't any signage once you're inside the building. Walking up those stairs is definitely worth it! You have an amazing view of the city as it's a glass enclosed space with views across U street and stretching back towards the National Mall.
The food was delicious (since it's small plate style I would suggest going with friends and sharing) and the wait staff was just the right amount of attentive."

"Excellent restaurant - we were there during the height of the DC presidential inaugural weekend - the restaurant was filled to capacity and several groups waiting for tables. Our hostess noted we had a reservation and worked hard to get us seated as quickly as possible. The food was terrific and we did not wait long to be served - remarkable considering the restaurant was completely filled - every table was full. Maybe because of that we had to ask twice for a refill on coffee. Otherwise it was a terrific place and one we will return to enjoy again."

"I've walked by this place a million times and never noticed it, and I'm glad I did. Great for eating late at night, and the food was absolutely delicious and great for date night. The one complaint I do have is that the service was horrible. It took forever for the waiter to take our order, he was unfriendly, never checked up on us, and it took forever for the check to come. Luckily the food was all correct and came out quickly, otherwise I absolutely would've complained. The food is absolutely delicious though, so I would definitely go back for that reason."
