"I was looking for a good restaurant to eat while on a business trip in Louisville. Marketplace definitely lived up to my expectations. Situated a little further on from the downtown 4th street part scene. Outside area was great, food was delicious (I had the gnocchi) and service was excellent. Highly recommended!"

"We chose Marketplace because of its incredibly close location to the Palace theater. It is conveniently located on Fourth Street in the midst of activity. The food was very good --- from appetizer of goat cheese to the cesar salad to the sea bass. I often judge a restaurant on the cesar --- and Marketplace's was wonderful!"

"The original paintings, art glass chandeliers, and other artistic touches complement an excellent menu executed perfectly. A large soaring space that could seem overwhelming is instead somehow cozy and romantic. Slight ding for pomme frites being a little too salty, but that's a matter of taste."

"Marketplace is a great restaurant, and one of the best looking restaurants anywhere. The food was great. The table was ready when we arrived. The restaurant was very busy because of Kentucky Derby weekend. There were a few loose ends. We had to ask for steak knives and there was no bread brought to the table, Excusable considering the large crowd, but did cause the 4 rather than 5 star for service."

"Saw somewhere that they were vegetarian friendly and that is why we selected the restaurant but have to say not really the case. It would be nice if they could cater to being able to hold off on meats or even cheese on everything. We still had a nice meal. The truffled fries were pretty good. Had to return the scallops because they were over cooked and too much salt, but they did have a really good Ricotta Gnocchi. Service was pretty good but they put us in the bar even though we got there early before the crowd."

"We are frequent flyers at The Marketplace. We enjoy the quaint atmosphere so much, we made a reservation for our wedding anniversary dinner. Initially we were a little disappointed, as the restaurant was nearly empty when we came in, yet our request for a table in a certain area of the restaurant(made well in advance) was not honored. However, the service was very good, our anniversary was recognized, and the celebration was good. The food is always tasty, and the bartender makes the best cocktails in town. We were offered chocolates on the house in lieu of desert, and the evening was a great celebration of our anniversary.
We will definitely keep the Marketplace high on our favorite dining places in Louisville."

"very nice experience. they had a private party in the front part of the restuarant and we were unable to leave the same way we came in. had to exit through the side door on the otherside of building. perhaps they should come up with a better way to accomadate private groups as this arrangement cut us off completely from the bar area,entertainment and the wine shop. a small inconvience. great chef in Dallas McGarity, creative and consistant."

"Every time we dine at the Marketplace, we become more fond of the place. Eclectic decorations, romantic atmosphere ( especially after the pianist comes in), great food, and great service. The bartender makes the best cocktail ever.

"We had great service. We called to say we were running a few minutes behind & they had no problem accommodating us. The only issue was they seem to be out of a lot of items on their menu. The waitress did bring a dessert to us that was on the house & it was excellent. I will try them again because the food we did have was good & it's a fun spot to dine. We try a new restaurant almost every weekend & I have to say the staff was very good. This is not always the case with new dining in Louisville. I would say this a must try in the Lou restaurant scene."

"Marketplace is a very attractive restaurant inside. The open space allows noise levels to be somewhat high but the tables are positioned so you do not feel that you are sharing your conversation with other patrons. Our food was outstanding but somewhat pricey. Service was adequate but our server was trying to cover more tables than might be advised if you want to provide excellent service. I would consider eating there again and would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a special place to eat."

"While the food was excellent, the slow service was unbearable. Our 7:00PM reservation got us a table in the bar area(unacceptable for the prices they charge) and we were stuck there until 9:30PM. Way too long!

"I was in the restaurant for VDay. I know this is a busy day for most restaurants but it's easy to tell when a place gets greedy and starts overbooking. Marketplace was one of those places. You can tell the staff is trying hard to bring 4 star restaurant quality but they fall short. You could tell they were hurried and stressed. My date attempted to switch out a veggie on her plate and was told no substitutes. I could understand if it was something complicated, but changing carrots to potatoes could not have been that much work. I had a steak which was good but my side items, cooked potatoes and carrots left much to be desired. I'm pretty sure they were frozen and reused based on their texture. This place has potential but sure I'll be back."

"We have been here twice and both times the service is very unattentive. On both occasions we were sat at our table and had to wait a minimum of 15 minutes before anyone would greet us. During that time multiple managers, servers & staff passed by our table, but no one acknowledged our presence. The last time we were there was Valentine's Day and eventually a server showed up to explain the normal server assigned to our table was late for his shift so he would be taking care of us. Didn't necessarily agree with the explination, because frankly I didn't care I just wanted to have a nice evening. However, after that the server did do a good job on explaining the menu and being attentive. Food was very good and presented well."

"Wow! So good! It was a bit pricey, but the quality of the food lives up to the cost. There are mbay unique vegetarian items on the menu as well as meat dishes. I can't wait to return!"

"A wonderful restaurant with an excellent location and great ambiance. The food was beautifully prepared, fresh and quite tasty. The event which I hosted at the Marketplace was a special one including 20 guests, all of whom remarked upon their positive experience! Well done and thank you!"

"Place is very attractive and tables/booths well spaced. Loved the live music.
Parking is a big issue, I would like to see valet offered.
Food was overall very good with some missteps. Had 2 appetizers, eggplant was excellent, flat bread was less than mediocre, stale and bland.
Entrees was quite good: salmon was excellent, though overcooked; fillet was very good but very small; NY strip was tasty but tough. Root vegetables that accompanied all the dishes were salty and shriveled. Dessert was mediocre (Italian lemon cake).
Alcohol is way overprices at 2.5x retail, service was not attentive and very slow."

"We enjoyed dining at the Marketplace. The food was good, especially the salads, and the service was prompt. The wine list needs a little more variety, and kale doesn't really need to be on EVERY dish, but overall everything was tasty and we enjoyed our evening."
