"We ate here before heading over to the Civic Opera House before a show. Our server was friendly and very on top of timing. His recommendations on appetizer and dinner selections were spot on. The scallops with fennel gazpacho was flavorful and very light and the seafood in the seafood pasta was cooked to perfection. We even had time for coffee and sorbet because the server was so good at timing each course. The restaurant itself was open and clean without feeling crowded even though the place was packed. We would definitely return!"

"The location is great, the food is great, but it is loud in the dining area. It is hard to hold a business meeting when the background noise is high. You can talk, but I wouldn't plan on closing any big deals at lunch. My other observation is that they rush people out the door. Their staff practically takes drinks right out of your hand to clear the table. A person I was with went to the bathroom, came back and the remainder of his lunch and drink were cleared."

"This is a terrific spot for pre-Lyric dining. The lobster roll and flatbread were terrific. The bar area is right next to the dining area. It was a Friday night and quite loud, so it was hard to chat without shouting/repeating yourself. If the music was a little softer, people wouldn't have to shout over the music and then over each other."

"I've been going to 1N since it opened and now the menu is changing and not in a good way. A staple for pre-opera patrons, I'm confused as to why the entree menu is so small and why the portion sizes continue to shrink. There are more starters and small plates than actual entrees. When asked about the fish & chips, our waiter said the fish portion was only 3 small pieces and didn't suggest it if we were hungry.
The dining room was so incredibly hot, we tried to get in other restaurants but couldn't. The AC could not be turned on and they only opened 1 front door, but the air never reached the customers in the dining room and bar where we were all sweating.
Half of the items on the desert menu weren't available.
Not a good night."

"Under Noise, there is no selection for Too Loud or unbearable...Need an acoustic ceiling, white boards...something. It is very hard to hear people at your own table. Not one of my guests were happy with there entrees. The waiter was more than accomodating and the dessert was a great touch! I would not recommend due to food quality or noise level - you cannot hear people at your table - accoustics are terrible."

"One North is our go-to restaurant for pre-opera dining, since It's right across the street from the Lyric. But they don't take their clientele for granted. I had a wonderful dish of seared sea scallops and a vanilla creme brulee. Unfortunately, my son was disappointed not to be able to get the ribeye steak, although the burger with pork belly amply satisfied his craving for meat. He also enjoyed the hot fudge brownie sundae. Practically everybody in One North before 7 is an opera-goer, so if you don't want to be rushed, go later."

"The menu is varied, so there's something for everyone. There s a good selection of appetizers, but I passed on those and opted for lobster risotto for my main course. It was prepared nicely, with adequate chunks of lobster and mushrooms. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to Lyric Opera, which is directly across the street. There were nice cocktails; limited choices of wines by the glass, although not a problem. Overall, a pleasant experience."

"Server was friendly and the food was good. It's convenient to the Lyric and was a good choice to have an early dinner after a matinee opera. The only area of improvement is making sure the soda is not flat. Otherwise, would go there again either before or after the opera."

"A friend and I decided to have dinner at One North before going to a show downtown. I should have known we were in for a rough experience when I got stuck in a torrential downpour and the resulting horrendous traffic. When I finally got there the hostess claimed my reservation, which I made through OpenTable, was not in their system and tried to insist on seating us at the bar. We finally got a real table and after a glass of wine (with their wine list being one of the few things to recommend about this place) I was in a better mood. However, both my friend and I wanted the surf & turf only to be told that, at 6:00 pm, they only had 1 left. I had the lobster risotto, which was just ok, it was kind of bland. Not in a hurry to go back."

"I was very disapointed in the quality of the food. I had the fish and chips and while the taste was good,it was over battered and greasy. . My friend had the mahi mahi, which was quite good.
We ordered dessert, the chocolate brownie.... and were so disapointed. It was dry, and stale tasting, there was very little choclate sauce. We both rarely have dessert, which made it more disapointing.
Since I was the one who had chosen the restaurant, I was glad that my friends mahi mahi was good. I probably would not choose this restaurant again."

"Will definitely return. I chose One North for it's proximity to the Lyric Opera, but after dining there only once, I will absolutely return . The service was incredible. The staff was very attentive and very friendly & professional at the same time. We were very impressed. Our dinners were excellent and beautifully presented. The entire experience was that of a restaurant I would expect to spend much much more. The next time I visit, I plan on impressing out of town guests."

"Menu does not suit pre opera crowd. The fare is average lunch like and the prices are posh dinner like. It is so loud that table conversation requires yelling. When you leave, your ears thank you. The Wacker construction has left us with out the really nice pre-opera restaurant alternatives that we had before."

"Great for dining before the opera, business lunch any week day, or a special ocassion. Greta decor, professional crowd and servers. I find the table helpers careless with customers. It is more important for them to clean tables thant to make customers feel welcome. They will cut across a customer going to the washroom in their quest to have the table clean. When I went to the Ritz Carlton, all the hotel stuff always allow me to walk by and greeted me with a smile. Why can all service staff do that? This a perfect restaurant but staff needs to be trained and educated to let them know that we, the customers, are their most important guest and we should be treated as such."

"Location, location, location.
It is a more than adequate restaurant to frequent before the opera performance across the street.I may have ordered the wrong thing that came out more french fried than I expected.It was featured as a crispy crawfish ban mhi. Not very Vietnamese. The broccolini side dish was done just right.
Except for the location I probably wouldn't go back to just have dinner, but I will as a pre-opera option."
