B. Cafe West brings the sophistication and tradition of Belgian cuisine to uptown Manhattan. With an array of customary Belgian dishes, along with the largest selection of Belgian beers in New York City with our unique selection of draft and bottled beers, we aim to bring the essence of Belgium stateside through high quality, authentic cuisine and service. In addition to our famous Moules Frites (fresh mussels served with our signature fries), B. Cafe offers the best of Belgian cuisine - perhaps with a Gauffre De Bruxelles (Belgian waffle) from our brunch or dessert menu, our Steak Frite Belgique as a dinner entrée, or a Corsendonk Pale Ale to drink. B. Cafe welcomes you to join us in embracing the elegance and warmth of Belgium, right here in Manhattan.
"The "Prepare Americain" (Filet Americain) was very good (not prepared at the table; thus the past-tense "prepare" I suppose). Steak Frite also excellent. Tarte Tatin was a little bland, and pastry was a bit wet crackerish. Frites were almost there -- a little on the burned side, but good. Great beer selection.
Service was EXCELLENT, and the room is great!
One nit: the top of the dessert menu is "Belgian Cheese Cake with graham cracker crust" -- however there are no graham crackers and there are no NY-style cheesecakes in traditional or current Belgian cuisine. I can say from experience that there may be no graham crackers in the whole country (I used to use "Digestives" as a substitute in my recipe when living there)."

"A group of 6 of us enjoyed a long brunch on a drizzly day with great food and service. I loved the beer selection and the staff was very friendly and accommodating."

"Great food, both classic and contemporary, excellent beers and nice atmosphere. The long narrow room reminded me of some of the cafes in Belgium. We will return. Just avoid the tables to the left as they are smaller and in the flow of traffic from the kitchen."

"My first couple of meals at B. Cafe were standouts. During the past year, however, I've noticed somewhat of a decline in the quality and service. For example, the frites arrived cold and a bit soggy this time and the bread could have been much fresher. Mussels were great and plentiful (as usual)."

"My third time here, and it has never disappointed. Wonderful moules frites, great selection of Belgian beers and ales. Only flaw is that it's a little cramped, but not unusual for Manhanttan."

"Good food, good service and a nice atmosphere-a perfect neighborhood place that is worth traveling to from out of the neighborhood. This is a place where the food is consistently good and the beer is exceptional."

"A reservation was honored = late - with a table by the kitchen and next to four VERY LOUD PEOPLE. The food seemed to have been sitting around for a long time. Very disappointing, considering how much we had enjoyed it in the past."

"When you're inside B. Cafe, you're no longer in New York City but in a little bistro in Paris or Brussels. It is a cozy restaurant with good food, reasonably priced wines and beer, and great ambience. Their specialty is mussels (several versions) with perfect fries on the side. Why try anything else?"

"As a Belgian living in CT I couldn't be happier to find a Belgian restaurant somewhat in my area. The food was delicious and very reminiscent of my home country. My American boyfriend especially enjoyed the wide variation of Belgian beers. I would highly recommend the country pâté or bitterballen as an appetizer, both very tasty. I had carbonnades flamandes or "stoofvlees" as we call it. The dish was so good and the fries were crispy and perfect. For dessert I went with crème brûlée, I loved it!"

"Notable beer list. If you like moules this is the place to go. Pommes frites delicieux. And the waffle with chantilly was amazing. I lived in the neighborhood for years and am so disappointed that I did not try this sooner. I will go back for sure"

"Great place, excellent food. Amazing beers, and terrific frites. Not fancy, but always excellent food. Energetic, but not a zoo. Not a "destination," just a dependable solid place."

"Worst service ever. Coffee (When we actually got it) was burnt and waiter tried to up sell us on liquor brand telling us the house brand was the most expensive."

"The price was great- brunch for about $25 per person, lovely/nice hostess, the only problem is that I reserved a table, we were right on time- meeting an old friend and told within 10 minutes that we needed to order immediately since the table was booked for 12:30 (our reserv was for 11. We couldn't relax and chat after brunch since the server was busily taking coffee cups out of our hands."

"Go at least once a week. If you are careful with what you order, this can be a very affordable place. Great value for the money. The tables are packed tightly so you get to know your dining neighbors well. As a neighborhood resident, this is not a bad thing."

"This was my fourth time here and every meal has been terrific, this is a new "teflon" for us. The manager always comes by and makes sure you're having a good time and adds a personal touch but without hovering. We brought friends from out of town and had a very jolly time. We particularly enjoyed the mussels and aps, and the beer and wine are outstanding."

"This is my second time at this restaurant and I will be back. This time I was able to get my favorite beer along with the mussels and fritte. The service is impeccable. The delicious food and the variety of Belgian beer are two of the reasons I will trek from NJ to eat here!"

"As an Upper Westside resident, I was happy to find a local place with really good food and a friendly, energetic atmosphere. What made my last dinner there extremely disappointing was the service. The waiter was friendly initially, but after we had ordered and had gotten our main dishes, he and his staff made it very clear to us that they wanted to rush us through the meal. We had taken a friend and it was, quite frankly, embarrassing to be treated this way. The moment we put our forks down someone was asking us if we were finished to which we repeatedly said "no". There was no thank you when we left and I truly felt that our waiter was annoyed with us for having what I considered to be a normal amount of time for a meal."

"Great choice of Belgian beers-ask the waiters for what specific taste you're looking for in a beer. They are very accomodating. Diver scallops delish with a lemon caper sauce."

"This truly is a neighborhood gem and if you haven't tried it yet, make a point to do so. We love this place. I had the beer/beef stew, and my husband had the haddock and chips. Great selection of Belgian beer as well."
