Raku is a new sushi joint in the 50th & France area. Raku is stylish and contemporary with muted tones. The menu offers plenty of sushi options as well as specialty modern Japanese dishes such as duck spring rolls and tuna pizza. Raku also offers a full bar with large selection of sakes!
"We wanted sushi and someplace different. Raku fit the bill! We were celebrating a special event and our server treated us to Japanese ice-cream on the house."

"Had a nice atmosphere with just a little noise in the background, but not too much. Food was really delicious and our server was nice, though seemed to get a little sidetracked towards the end of the meal."

"Food was terrible, service was rediculously slow. Cocktails were awful, received our drinks 20 mins after ordering them. We made a reservation which, after we arrived there, we realized wasn't a reservation. Our name was put on a list and you get your table first come, first serve. We were seated about 30 mins after our reservation."

"The sushimi was very fresh. The sushi rolls were good but most likely I will stick to my regular sushi restaurant and not go back. Interesting atmosphere. They do offer a lot of different items besides sushi."

"We started our dinner with a Manhattan sushi roll which was superb and very fresh. Entrees included sesame shrimp and crazy chicken, both of which were exquisitely presented and delicious. Our waiter, Tommy, was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and never intrusive. Raku is definitely a superior choice for Japanese cuisine in the Twin Cities."

"No bar service, waited over 20 minutes, along with 8 other customers and none of us could order a drink while waiting for our table. It appears the wait staff serve up all their own beverages and cocktails so that slows down service. We saw this happening all over the restaurant so we were sure to order our beverages and food as soon as our waitress came or we knew it would be a long time before she was able to get back to us. The food was good, small serving size of raw sushi pieces though. The bill was pretty high for the small amount of food, so not a good value. Don't go at busy times unless you don't mind slower service since the wait staff wear all the hats."

"Came on a Sunday with family. All of us are seasoned sushi connoisseor, and we enjoyed it here. Service was nice and a few decent recommendations was made with when we asked for "popular rolls". Although this place is great, we felt some of the rolls were priced higher then the competition. I'd recommend a visit for those foodie enthusiasts. Definitely try some of the premium rolls as they were worth it! Best part was the free dessert for the birthday guest!"

"We had a 7:15 reservation on the weekend after Valentine's Day. When arrived, the restaurant was actively busy and a number of guests were standing by a vacant hostess stand. A number of people were waiting for To Go food and to be seated. All the wait staff had their heads bowed down and were moving fast. They were obviously understaffed. Just the chaotic nature of the place made me want to turn and leave but we decided to sit at the bar(which had no bartender) and waited for a table. About 30 minutes after arriving, we were seated. The waitress was great and very attentive. The food was fine but not spectacular. I'm not used to getting imitation crab in a sushi restaurant. When we left, the restaurant was quieter and calmer."

"The sushi was delicious! The service could have been better. They were incredibly short-staffed: There was no bartender at the bar, so the servers were trying to mix their own drinks and people were waiting a long time for them, and the hostess appeared to be also serving tables and working very hard. There was a long line of people waiting to be seated. We had made a reservation, though, and were seated close to our reservation time. The food was outstanding, and we still had a wonderful night."

"Expensive, especially for the quality of the service and the length of time it takes to get your food. Great place for rich yuppies who have nothing better to do than sit around wasting time and money."

"We went to Raku on Valentine's Day evening. The hostess looked really flustered but she was doing a good job. The wait staff was totally overburdened, however. From the time we got our menus to the time our order was taken was a full 30 minutes. We considered ordering two drinks and dessert at the same time as our meal so we wouldn't have another long interval to wait for service! I don't blame the restaurant as I've been here before for a girls' night out and everything was fine."

"They had a rough night on valentines day - overbooked and understaffed. Fish was average - Toro was not a good cut. The rolls were fine. Waited close to 90 minutes for sushi, order was doubled for some items and when I sent back, bill wasn't fixed. Can only imagine how long it would have taken to fix so I just paid for it... Thought it would be nice to try a sushi place I haven't been to - lesson learned, stick to the places you know well."

"This was pretty bad evening. Even we had reservation there no table available. Eventually we were put on a table next to the door, so every time some one came in we got the icy air. The waiter was totally forgetful, we waited and waited finally I got my appetizer but not my husband. 10 minutes later his came. Then for the dinner just the reverse, my husband got his dinner and the waiter forgot about mine!!!! The food was so so, mine was actually not good. We will never go back to this restaurant."
