Stephen Starr's newest Japanese restaurant, Makoto is located in the prestigious Bal Harbour Shops. Makoto features a modern Japanese menu including sushi bar selections, modern Japanese dishes, and bincho charcoal robata. A hand-crafted beverage program focused on sake compliments the cuisine. The dining room and sushi bar seating are available by reservation. Outdoor seating is available upon arrival.

"We adore this Asian gem though prices are more New York than one might expect. The sushi is fresh and all menu items have highest quality ingredients. The chicken salad, tuna tartare and salmon filet are outstanding. Short ribs are a must. Sampling a number of items is the way to go so take a group. The outdoor patio is lovely when there's a breeze or cooler temperatures. Service is top-notch."

"Had dinner with a friend a few nights ago and absolutely loved it as usual. I have been to Makoto a few times and can't get enough of the delicious menu and atmosphere. "Went to Makoto for lunch on a Sunday; the short ribs skillets are great; all sushi and sashimi are excellent (you can tell the difference). THe menu offers a good variety of options. The only thing is that it can get quite expensive... be ready. Maybe not an issue for people in Bal Harbour"

"We were at the Bal Harbour shopping mall and realized the restaurant was located right there. Very nice surprise for my wife and I, since we thought it would be a commercial sushi spot. Quite the opposite!!! it was a real Japanese restaurant with a complete variety of excellent food. The sea bass is really special as well as the non traditional sushi sampler.
The only thing to improve is the speed of the service. We had to request many times to have the water brought to our table. Otherwise, I would had ranked 5 star in every aspect."

"We love this upscale Asian gem though on the pricey side. The outdoor patio is terrific if the weather permits. Try the tartare, short rib scewers, shrimp salad and more. "We had a great experience at Makoto. Our server was great at helping us pick what to order, although we wanted to try so many things that we ended up over-ordering. The robata dishes were amazing as was the sushi. It was such a beautiful night so we ate outside. If you are in the Bal Harbour area, definitely try this Steven Starr restaurant. You won't be disappointed!"

"This was a first after being delighted with the Makoto offering at Share Our Strength Miami. This is VERY special Japanese cuisine and every bite, delightful as were the cocktails and waitstaff. I would highly recommend Makoto and cannot wait to go again. I happily drove about 20 miles to dine there and would never hesitate to drive there to enjoy again. In fact, I cannot wait to go again!"

"I went with my girlfriend on Saturday, March 9. The service was up to standards and this is coming from someone within the industry. The spicy tuna crisp and the tuna tataki where really good. The caterpillar maki was balanced and the short ribs from the robata just melt in you mouth. Great vibe. Would recommend!"

"This was our first visit to Makoto and we were not disappointed!All the dishes were wonderful ,but several deserve special praise i.e. the crispy rice with tuna,the eggplant,the greaseless broccoli tempura,the scallops with mushrooms,and the chocolate dessert!It was fun to share and the service was relaxed and informative!"

"I was making a research for a japanese restaurant in the area and I found Makoto web page.
It is great.
We were 4 adults and 2 kids and our dinner experience was espectacular.
The weither and service more than excelent! he recomend us some ¨fun¨dishes for kids like the Kobe beef which they cooked in a hot stone and were happy about it. I was a little bit nervous regarding prices going to a restaurant in Bal Harbour shops but in my 4 dinners in Miami it was the most affordable and great one!.

"I live in NYC and I have eaten in all the great Sushi/Japanese restaurants- Makoto is up there with all of them. The sushi was amazing, very very fresh fish. We ordered 5 different rolls and all of them were great. The Robata was awesome especially the Japanese Eggplant. The service was great, we were there with our 7 month old daughter and they couldn't of been nicer. We went at 6:15 and the restaurant was not really crowded, by the time we left at 7:45 it was packed.

"This is a one of a kind restaurant with unique and flavorful dishes rarely if ever found elsewhere.
