Teatro is a unique, privately owned restaurant committed to providing an extraordinary dining experience. We are dedicated to sourcing out the best local, seasonal ingredients and utilizing them on our menu and in our daily features. Our Modern Italian Cuisine features the highest quality Canadian ingredients alongside the finest culinary jewels of the world. Teatro means 'theatre' in Italian - homage to the restaurant's location in Calgary' Arts & Theatre District. Located in the former Dominion Bank Building (est.1911), Teatro captures the building's elegant past in a contemporary light. Eighteen-foot coffered ceilings sit atop pristine Corinthian columns, providing a grand sense of spaciousness. "I took my wife to Teatro's for our anniversary. The service was excellent: friendly, knowledgeable, accomodating - all the things you expect from a restaurant that plays in the top tier. The food was acceptable but not stunning. Presentation was beautiful. However, the flavours did not create a impression that the chef was a master...I am not sure the cause. Perhaps the chef left more room for patrons to choose their salt level ( and although I would welcome this option, I am not used to this, and tend not to add anything to dishes I expect perfection from). There was not a profusion of choice in the menu - we did not have to struggle with what to enjoy as there were only one or two items per general category. I will likely not return."

"We were looking for a special place for our wedding anniversary, and Teatro was the right choice!
Wonderful atmosphere, perfect service and amazing food.
We're quite the foodies, and although we can enjoy simple food, sometimes we crave something more special, interesting and challenging. Teatro was all that - nothing was benign, everything was special.
We will come back for other special occasions, for sure."

"The service was not good. Waited a long time for even the menus and the wine list. Bread basket came after the appetizer and the main course took a long time even though we discussed earlier we had to go to CPO at a set time. Food was cold. NOT very good when you consider the restaurant and the prices."

"After 20+ minute wait, and unable to catch our server's eye or have her see my waves, I finally had to flag someone down to request our server be located and come by so that we could finally order. Someone else came by to take our order, and it was another 30+ minute wait until food finally appeared, and after most tables before and after us had already been served and in some cases finished. Our server was pretty much non-existent throughout the meal, and we had to flag down others to request coffee refills etc. When I approached a staff member to quietly express my displeasure, he indicated that they only did brunch on rare occasions, and kind of shrugged. Food was quite good when it arrived. Pastry basket ($12) was standard/stale.."

"We brought our two daughters with us to celebrate our anniversary (ages 9 and 11). We let them know the expectations of a high end dinning spot and they were treated respectfully, not like little kids, and had all their questions answered.
The service was wonderful and the food was very good (although rich for young diners) and our evening was really lovely from beginning to end."

"My husband and I recently moved to Calgary. We chose Teatro for a celebration dinner and we were not disappointed. The service was fabulous, the food was outstanding. The seafood lasagna was exceptional and the tiramisu was the best I have ever tasted. The restaurant it's self is so elegant and comfortable. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having a good time."

"Teatro has a great reputation and high standing in the restaurant scene in Calgary. I think it is a little over-rated. The decor is beautiful, the service is outstanding, but the food was ho-hum, just good, and very overpriced. If you are looking for a romantic place for dinner with great service, this is a good place, but go a little later in the evening (we were there for 5:30 because we were going to the theatre afterwards). But, if you are looking for really fantastic food, there are any number of other places along Stephen Avenue with good service and great food and you'll save about $50 to $100 for two people depending where you go."

"I had a nice first appearance, a friendly hostess took my coat and seated us in our table. We were seated in one of the center tables with couch seating. It gave us a nice view of the overall restaurant but it would have been nice to be able to see out the window from time to time.
Food was good but it didn't blow me away. The taste just wasnt up-to-par with what I was expecting.
Perhaps the evening was ,not ruined but certainly affected, by a less than attentive waiter. I found he wasnt very friendly. He wasnt rude or anythign he just didn't put any effort into his job. And it showed.
The two other guys that helped bring out food were, however, much more friendly and knowledgable about the food. Kind of wish they were serving."

"Celebrating my birthday at Teatro was definitely the best choice we could have made. Not only was the service outstanding, but the staff made all those in our party feel completely welcome. The food was impeccably prepared and so flavourful that we could barely converse while we ate; our comments being limited to "Mmm" and "This is sooooo good". It had been a while since we last dined there, but we won't wait as long for the next time. Calgary is blessed to have a restaurant of such long standing and consistently high quality!"

"The food was one of the best meals we have had in Calgary; however, the service was disappointing for this type of restaurant. This was due to the fact that I had to ask about the specials, ask about what kind of wine I was being served, etc. Her attitude was extremely poor and we simply felt like we were bothering her despite not asking for anything beyond what I would consider normal service.
I would still return as the food was amazing; however, it would be nice to go back and be able to say the service was at least average."

"Service was outstanding. Offered us champagne because our bar drinks were taking a bit long. Wine pairing with our dinner, allowed us to taste wines beforehand. When I didn't like my wine, they offered two other selections. Food and presentation were great. Everything came in a timely manner...did not feel rushed."

"The maitre d opened a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for me as it was not listed on the menu by the glass, he chose perfectly! The server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. And the pulled crab risotto...simply amazing!"

"Our calamari appetizer was excellent as was dessert (creme brûlée and chocolate hazelnut mousse) but our entree of sea bass was fairly ordinary, We've certainly had better including a recipe that we've made at home. Our waiter's attention was "just right" and we appreciated that the wine he recommended within our grape and region choice was not the most expensive. You absolutely can't beat the ambiance and decor in this restaurant!"

"I haven't been to Teatro for a couple of years. They've definitely moved their food quality up since then. It's on a par with the best restaurants in Calgary, maybe even be the best. The iceberg salad was amazing! I only wish we had time for the tasting menu, but we'll be back to try it."

"Took my girlfriend out to Teatro for our anniversary and it was an amazing night the food was amazing and the service was excellent . I felt like I was a regular ,the staff was very knowledgeable and again the food was amazing . I would recommend Teatro for just going out or for a special occasion."

"I visited Teatro several times during a business deal in 1998. I tried to get in without a reservation in 2012 - this year I booked a reservation a week before my trip! The place is better than I remember! Excellent atmosphere with the most delicious and memorable food! I tried and loved the seafood lasagne - very fresh - lots of big seafood in every bite. To my surprise - my customer booked a reservation for the next evening! I was most delighted and got to try my 2nd choice entree - the beef tenderloin!"

"Teatro offered outstanding service! We felt the waiter had the perfect equilibrium of waiting on us, but also letting us talk and be uninterupted. No pushy about ordering more stuff or having more drinks. Very professional. The food and atmosphere was awesome! Romantic! The Lasagna and quail were delicious. I highly recommend Teatro!"
