"Eola makes a good attempt but falls short of other high end restaurants in DC with tasting menus. For over $300 for two people (tasting + wine pairing incld tip/tax), I'd expect more memorable dishes. The service made a couple mistakes/misjudgments that you wouldn't expect at this price. It was good, just not $300 good."

"Easily one of the best restaurants in DC at the moment. Do you like amuse bouches, but don't need 21 of them! Eola has the answer - 5. Love tasting menus b/c it gives you the best/in season food - Eola wins again with 3 menus to choose. The best one is - hands down - Offal. You might be a bit nervous if you didn't grow up eating lesser known cuts of meats/muscles, but definitely try it - you won't be disappointed. The pork cheeks will keep us coming back. Honestly, there wasn't one dish that wasn't packed with flavor. Lastly, the staff and sommelier were extremely friendly and happy to describe some of the more unique dishes."

"What a great find. The service was absolutely outstanding. I loved the selection of amuse-bouches to start. It was a perfect way to try lots of things without getting too full. I had the vegetarian tasting menu and my husband had the offal menu. We were both really impressed by the food. The quinoa tart was amazing. Overall a wonderful place for a date night!"

"Eola was a delightful surprise. We chose the menu with wine pairings. The chef's ideas were inventive and made an interesting use of spices and herbs. Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful. The sommelier was helpful and the wine pairings were superb. The space is small and one loud party was heard throughout until they succumbed to the food and quieted down. Even though I had read Tom Sietsema's review, which was very positive, before making the reservation, the experience was even better."

"What a wonderful meal - this is the type of restaurant where only foodies should ever go. It is completely wasted on anyone else. The food is so artfully prepared that even a small bite is an adventure to be had. By the end of our meal, we began to realize how food really is a chemical substance. Some of the flavors evoked such intense responses that they reverberated throughout the body. I agree with critics who note that the food is very salty. I do not consume much salt, and I felt it quite strongly in most dishes. Although too much salt often bothers me, here it did not, since salt seemed to act not as a substitute for flavor, as is often the case, but as yet another strong and bold seasoning that the chef is not afraid to use."

"This restaurant is the culinary equivalent of Dada art - well meaning and ambitious but in the end bizarre and unpalatable, sometimes literally. One can only imagine this restaurant survives on pluralistic ignorance: everyone knows the food is awful, but enough people are too afraid of appearing declasse to admit it. Spectacular fail."

"It's very good but so expensive that it just isn't worth it. The wine list is so insane as the bottles start at $60. For high end restaurants, it doesn't offer the value that it's peers do. Overall it's great but for $300 for a couple to eat there, it has to be perfect which it isn't."

"The negative experience began upon arrival, when we became aware that the establishment does not have valet parking. Since street parking is literally impossible during normal dining hours in this neighborhood, I had to park 5 blocks away and take a cab back to my waiting date. The service was remarkably and unacceptably slow (the term "wait staff" took on another meaning). The dining room was not even full, yet we did not receive menus without a noticeable delay; and bread may as well have been an entree for as long as it took. Not worth half the price."

"This is probably in the top five of all the meals I've had in the last year, and since I'm a foodie that's saying much. Off the top of my head in order of preference: Fiola, this meal at Eola, my own Birthday dinner at Mintwood Place, Rasika West End, The Blue Duck Tavern. It was that good. Our party, one of which was celebrating his birthday, all did the Chef's tasting menu, and they also opted for the wine pairings while I abstained. The chef's display of culinary powers was merit's a Darth Vader 'impressive!'. And my dining companions were totally blown away! Compliments to the chef. He's doing great work. Also good attention by the waitstaff in explaining the daunting array of dishes coming at us. Looking forward to coming back!"

"Eola continues to maintain its high standards for experimental American cuisine. The wild mushrooms over parsnip puree starter was mouthwateringly good; mushroom and walnut risotto, to die for. Meanwhile, on the offal menu, pig snout may not be everyone's idea of a primi but give it a try, for the pig jowl secondi simply melts in your mouth. Plus, sensible spacing between tables ensures that you can hear your dining partners' conversation. And attentive wait staff round out the outstanding experience. Highly recommended. Enjoy."

"Was staying in DuPont circle, found reviews online and booked for two. We both had the regular prix fixe with the wine pairing. Food was consistently interesting, wines went beautifully it . Service was spectacular--from the pacing of the courses, to the explanations of the dishes and wines. The amuse bouches were like tiny artworks. The duck sausage was sublime. Lovely place for a romantic dinner for people who love food--there's a vegetarian menu as well, so if your partner doesn't eat meat, you're covered. A truly great food experience."

"I'd heard about the chef's tasting menu, and was pleasantly surprised to see there were two others as well: Vegetarian and Offal. I asked the chef to select the courses with a wine pairing. The highlight was the chef's tastings that happened before the meal came out, almost all were amazing with only one not quite ready for prime time (a ball of fried fish that tasted not quite fresh). The servers were very friendly and willing to discuss the wine list and potential pairings. The home-made sausage and the pork belly were amazing...the artistry of care done on sight was evident. Pumpkin pain perdu phenomenal but seafood underwhelming. "Eola exceeded our expectations in all aspects. Being in an old townhouse felt like having dinner in a special dining room in someone's home. It is cozy and simply elegant. The food, right from the start, with amuse bouches were so simplY put together with the most amazing ingredients...many ingredients homemade by the chef and owner. For each course you had a choice of 3 dishes.My main course was perfectly cooked duck that was perhaps the best duck I have had and I am a duck super fan. The wine pairings were per each particular dish. The service was outstanding and friendly starting with the hostess expecting us and even opening the front door for us and that level of service continued through every course.This restaurant is a true gem."

"Interesting menu, nice flavors, a bit contrived. Really nice space/ambiance, tables spaced to encourage privacy. Wine pairings were a great exploration, the sommelier was very knowledgable and clearly likes to step outside the box. The waiter was a bit intrusive but attentive. All in all, a lovely evening."

"Eola never ceases to amaze me. The food is oustanding. With an Offal Menu, a vegetarian menu and a regular menu you will always find something spectacular to eat. The service is top notch. Really a great place to have a romantic dinner for two, or even a group outing for 4 or 6!"

"After reading the glowing review in Washingtonian Magazine, our experience at Eola was a huge disappointment. The downstairs dining room has no sophistication and could easily be a dorm dining room with the addition of some art on the walls. The wait staff is earnest enough and undoubtedly tries hard, but they flub their lines at key moments. For one course, our wine pairing arrived long after we'd finished the food with which it was supposed to be paired. After we had already eaten a succession of amuses bouches, a server mistakenly placed a previously tasted dish on our table rather than presenting it to another party. The food itself was rather precious without offering striking flavors. Nothing at all stood out as extraordinary."

"We very much wanted to like, if not love, Eola. We chose the restaurant as it had been listed as one of the "up and coming" restaurants in DC. It has a lot of "up and coming" left to do. The food was truly uninspiring. The fixed tasting menu seemed to lack creativity and any type of thread or theme tying the sub-par dishes together. The amuse bouche were truly amusing (and not in a good way) and the rest of the meal went downhill from there (including the luke-warm soup). The wait staff was quite pleasant but couldn't answer basic questions about the ingredients or preparation. Overall a disappointing experience."

"Went with another couple and contrary to reviews, we felt the service was professional yet warm and the food OUTSTANDING and not overly salty at all. We had the wine pairings and found them enjoyable and fairly priced. One member of the party had the offal menu and found it fantastic! The ambiance was well suited for a comfortable night of friends, may not be romantic enough (there are no white table cloths)for some. Cocktails were ok. We'd go back in a heartbeat!"
