"My husband and I went on a Monday night. We were able to get in an half an hour early even though our reservation was not until 7:30 PM. The place was bustling and we found out it was half price entree night, which made dinner extremely affordable. We had the Napoleon sashimi, which was fantastic, and the heirloom beet salad. I recommend both. The specials were fantastic and the servers were extremely helpful and attentive. It was the best meal we had on Maui. We purchased both cookbooks before we left."

"Enjoyed our return to Hali'imaile. It's been almost seven years since our last dinner here. It was an early dinner and mid-week so dining was terrific and definitely conversation friendly. Some hits and some misses, but overall an enjoyable outing."

"So, my favorite restaurant in Maui disappoints...didn't think possibe. Ordered the wonderful brie and grape dish to share...then the house salad. Salad was simply lackluster...just lettuce, walnuts and some mandarin orange slices...and a few raw onion slices...hello? Really not worthy of this fine restaurant. Would go again...would not order that excuse for a salad again:(."

"My family and I were on vacation in Maui for 2 weeks! One of the places my in-laws higly suggested us to go to was Haliimaile General Store. So my husband, 1 year old, in-laws and I went on our first night out. The food was delicious! My sin gobbled up the monchong and mashed potatotes whike the rest of us devoured our various different meals. He was completely entertained by ecerything hanging frim the ceilings and walls! The waitstaff was courteous. We definitely can't complain about anything. We had such a great exoerience there that it kick started our need to try all of Bev Gannon's Maui restaurants. On our last night in Maui my husband and I returned to Hailiimaile for one last amazing meal!."

"I truly believe that this place is over rated. I was so excited to have my family a unique food experiencing but we end up knowing that just few miles away in Makawao town there's a restaurant that serves the same plate at much flavorful taste, same with the dessert!
Just didn't come up to our expectation.
Appetizers........the pop corn shrimp, just a bad taste joke.....this is for real. Even my kids, 12 and 17 years old were surprise by the presence of pop corn at the dinner table. Felt very, american bad and cheese taste.

"Food was very good, the quality is on par with Mama's Fish House, but very overpriced. $131 for two glasses of wine, two entrees and a shared scoop of ice cream for dessert. (We can spend as much at Mama's but feel much better doing so for the exceptional atmosphere and service). Service was efficient but not very personable, not even a thank you as we left. We are locals who love sharing great places with our frequent mainland guests, and we love the idea of a nice upcountry restaurant close to home, but we will probably pass on this one in the future."

"This was our annual visit to Maui and even though it's a drive from either Wailea or Kaanapali we almost always include a dinner at Haliimaile General Store. I love the Chi Chi's that the regular bartender, Tim, makes and will call ahead to verify he's working before booking a reservation. If you like coconut based drinks give one a try, you won't be disappointed. Dinner was excellent. I tried the hanger steak as opposed to my usual rack of lamb and was very pleased. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We prefer to sit in the front area even though it can be noisy as there's a nice breeze usually and the casual feel is great. This is our favorite of the three Gannon restaurants in Maui."

"Off the beaten track and well worth every minute of the drive. Miles of sugar cane fields between town and this "old Hawaii" gem. The lillikoi creme brulee was the best dessert I've ever had, bought the cookbook so I can attempt it at home. This is the kind of restaurant that travelers dream of, leave your resort and have the most amazing meal of your trip.

"We have been dining at Haliimaile General Store for about 15 years. The food has always been wonderful and we can hardly wait to go back. Unfortunately the other evening I ordered Bev's crab pizza a favorite of mine. After taking one bite I was finished! It had a horrible taste of blue cheese which overwhelmed the crab and I hate blue cheese. My husband gave me his salad and choked down a piece of the pizza. The other people at our table agreed it had blue cheese in it. Our waitress told us that simply wasn't true because even though it is a secret recipe it had no blue cheese in it. Oh, but it did. The manager? Also came over and told us they had not changed the recipe so,we were wrong. The whole evening was ruined."

"This restaurant was quite a gem in such a small town. It is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and is removed from the busier areas of Maui. It was really through Open Table that we found out about this restaurant. Because it had received such good reviews, we decided to make the trip up there to see just how good the food was. I am so glad I had read the reviews. Initially, the hostess wanted to seat us in the front of the restaurant. Based on the reviews, I knew that this was a very noisy area of the restaurant, and indeed it was. I asked to be seated in the back section of the restaurant which made all the difference. It was nice and quiet. The food was delicious. I had the ahi tuna, which was fantastic. I would definitely go back."

"Bev Gannon's Haliimaile General Store is a top notch restaurant. They feature the freshest local ingredients and prepare them in the most delicious ways. I had a glass of Mumm champagne with their warm rolls and butter. My entree was lehi, a local snapper that had been panfried then painted with a basil and ginger pesto and finished in the oven, and topped by a spicy curry cream sauce, served with wasabi mashed potatoes, fresh steamed green beans, cherry tomatoes and bell pepper strips. I had a glass of refreshing glass of Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with dinner. Though everyone around me was raving about the pineapple upside down cake served ala mode, I had the lilikoi creme brule served in an almond brittle basket. Outstanding!"

"When in Maui, I would not think of missing the General Store. They do everything with a friendly flair; and their meals are second to none. Whether its seafood, meat, vegetables or dessert, everything is done with gourmet care. It's my favorite restaurant in the islands and one of the best anywhere in the world. The forward part of the "store" can be a little noisy, but the back is always quiet and romantic."

"Food was OK... I ordered the lamb. It came undercooked, quite rare actually. I also thought the Hoisen sauce was really overdone. good in small measure but it was used to cook the vegetables in. That turned them brown and sweet which simply wasn't appealing. It also made the entire meal have just one dominant flavor. I expected more complexity.

"Pros: The food is outstanding. Seafood, steaks, lamb, chicken, duck etc. I had a wonderful dish of 4 large diver scallops with a great risotto and mushrooms. I asked for the lobster sauce on the side and it was not necessary. Besides it tasted very watery. My husband had the rack of lamb which was a large portion with tasty sauce and small selection of veggies. We had shared a Caesar salad which is also large.
Cons: The ambiance is ok, noisy in the front section with an open kitchen. We were seated in a smaller room that was more quiet. BUT the service was rushed. We were in and out in less than 1 hr. (no room for dessert). I know it is a popular place but I wanted to DINE, not EAT."

"Our last meal before returning to the Mainland was here. Since our departure was on a 11 pm red-eye flight, we had plenty of time for a nice dinner and still have time to get to the airport. The food, as always, was outstanding. I ate lightly that evening - soup and an appetizer - and I was full and satisfied. The table shared a desert that was good. The General Store is one of our favorites. It is a bit of a drive for us since we stay in Kahana, but worth the drive. Lunches are also great. I highly recommend you give this one a try! We always return to the General Store at least once on our annual trip to Maui! They are always consistently good!."
