Aguaviva, opened in 2002, specializes in "Seaside Latino Cuisine" the freshest fish and seafood prepared with Latino - Caribbean flair by chef Hector Crespo, and fraturing an amazing ceviche and oyster bar in front of an open kitchen.
"Great food and service! The ambiance was energetic and fun. The two of us shared ceviche and the paella, and both were fantastic! We finished with the chocolate mousse cake and espresso. Again, both were amazing! If you are in Old San Juan make sure your visit includes an evening at Aguaviva!!"

"What a delicious assortment of seafood -- any way you like it! Aguaviva has a very nice array of cerviches, which are fresh and tasty. We also loved the coconut shrimp -- wish I could post a photo as the presentation is as wonderful as they are tasty. Definitely try the seafood paella -- it was full of scallops, lobster, shrimp, octopus and other seafood -- fabulously delicious! Aguaviva was a nice "find" in downtown Old San Juan."

"I was really excited to go to this restaurant. I had looked up best restaurant in San Juan and this place was at the top. The decor was ok, great service, but more important than anything elsr, i wanted great food. This wasn't great, it was good. I'm from New York City so my expectations are pretty high."

"This has to be one of the best restaurants to eat in Old San Juan! Great ambiance and delicious food!
I would highly recommend getting the Watermelon Sangria, It's so tasty and refreshing. We loved it so much we ordered a pitcher of it.
My wife and I ordered the the" De Lujo" Seafood Tower with the Red Snapper ceviche and the octopus ceviche. This mid sized (out of the 3) seafood tower comes with 12 oysters 18 steamed muscles, shrimp and 2 ceviches of your choice along with a side of fried plantains. That being said we made this tower our meal."

"The ambiance and service were quite nice, it looked very promising. However, for my friend and I, the bill was $100.00 (including tip). My friend had a specialty drink and I only had a beer. We each ordered an entree (seafood) and split a garden salad. The food wasn't bad...actually my friend's salmon was quite delicious and cooked to perfection. However, my fried snapper with lobster mofongo was overly salty and blah. I'm from Washington DC, so it is not as if I'm not used to paying a pretty penny for a nice dinner. Aguaviva wasn't bad, it just wasn't worth the price. We went to a small Puerto Rican restaurant the next day for a 1/3 of the price and every bite was mouthwatering."

"Service was the major downfall here. Stephanie was trying but seemed a bit in the weeds. The food was good but not ecstatic or fanciful.. I guess I was expecting too much after having eaten at Marmalade the night before."

"The food was alright but nothing to write home about. Service was very good and attentive waitress. However it was extremely noisy and could barely hear my dinner guest. I cannot say that the food was value for money, also the restaurant obviously does multiple service in an evening so felt pressure to hurry up and leave .. which we ignored.
I will not be in a rush to go back again."

"OK, while we much enjoyed the food and drink options on the menu (ceviches, in particular, are great), one thing cast a grey cloud over the whole experience. We made the reservation for 8:30, arrived a little early, and were graciously told that the table would be ready within minutes and to have a cocktail at the bar in the meantime. No problem. Over an hour later, we were still not seated. Famished, irritated, and looking around in dismay, we were ready to leave, when we started chatting with a couple local ladies at the bar, who offered some insight. We thought we noticed several people who apparently had arrived much after us and were seated before us, and sure enough, "locals get sat first," said one woman."

"We had heard a lot about Aquaviva, it more than lived up to our expectations. We never left the appetizers section, the choices were so good. I recommend the oysters and the tuna tartar ceviche, they were the best! Pricy but worth the trip into old San Juan."

"This restaurant was fun and had wonderful food. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and was attentive without being intrusive. The food was perfectly prepared and served immediately. We had a great meal in a very fun atmosphere. The blueberry mojitos were great too!"

"Six of us had dinner at Aguaviva, and found the food very marginal. We expected a very nice meal from the reviews we had read. We came away disappointed in almost every aspect. Skip this restaurant if you are looking for a fine dining experience, with sophisticated food. Aguaviva was underwhelming."

"Despite having a reservation, we waited 2 hours for our table. It was my birthday & I really wanted to eat there. Although the food was terrific, the wait & abysmal non-service from the bartender overshadowed my birthday celebration."

"The grilled oysters were to die for. The lobster mashed potatoes were excellent. They fix a killer Mojito as well. If you go to Old San Juan, nobody should pass up this place. The menu is pricey, but your on vacation. Live a little."

"The food was pretty good. My husband had a filet and it had lots of fat on it. But the Mahi Mahi was awesome. The sister restaurant DragonFly was where they took us to wait and have cocktails. That place was awesome!!! Aguaviva was extremely loud and service was okay."

"We will not go back to Aguaviva anytime soon. We waited at least 20 minutes for a drink at the bar before our reservation. Once seated we waited 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence and asked us if we wanted a drink. The Ceviche was the only pleasant surprise of the night. The meal was beyond poor. Very disappointed."

"Our meals were very disappointing. First of all, we waited for more than 30 minutes for a table, even though we had a reservation. My main course red snapper dish, that was listed as a specialty of the house, was so over cooked that it could not be cut with a knife."

"How about your fast turnover? Appetizers arrive before drinks, mains while stilling eating appetizers. In and out 45 minutes. Not quite the dining experience we were hoping for. Noisy and obviously on a "how many times can we turn this table" plan. Some food was ok, but surf and turf was dry and lifeless."

"My girlfriend and I were excited to get some seafood in San Juan, and Aguaviva seemed a perfect fit. The environment was clean, hip, and fun, and the service was good.
We ordered a ceviche (tuna tartare, which was very good but a little bitter), a crab cake, and some Buneulos to share. All of the starters had good flavor and were large enough to share among two people. For our mains, I took the snapper with lobster mofongo while my girlfriend chose the sole filet. We were looking forward to the main courses after such delicious starters, but were very disappointed by what arrived. The fish was overcooked and bland, and for the price not a good value. Overall, the dinner was okay, but I would suggest a meal of appetizers/ceviches."

"We came for Valentine's Day dinner and brought our baby. I sat under an a/c vent so that was probably the only thing that was uncomfortable for me. I had to change my baby's diaper and a waitress told me that they didn't have a changing table so she took me across the street to Parrot Club (their sister restaurant) where they did have one. I thought that was so nice that she took time out to walk me and ask them if I could use the changing table. The restaurant was happening and had great seafood. I loved the tuna cerviche they had. I had the scallop risotto, which I thought had a little more black pepper than I would have liked. My husband had the snapper mofongo which was good. Definitely would come back!"

"We ate at Aguaviva on a Sunday night of a holiday weekend. The restaurant seemed caught off guard by how busy it was? The hostess was very flustered and overwhelmed. Thankfully we had made a reservation, although we still had to wait about 20-30 minutes. When finally sat, they were out of menus, and it took awhile for our waitress to check on us. Once she did though, her service was excellent. She seemed to thrive on the craziness of the night. She even went behind the bar to make our drinks, which tasted great. Like I said, they were slammed and only had one bartender on duty. The appetizers were excellent but neither one of us were a fan of our entrees, but the dessert was very good."

"Only 6 people including myself and my brother at the bar, and was ignored for 10 mins than could not get the bar tender to make a drink. Was too preoccupied talking and standing around. She was unable to multi task and could only do one thing at a time. When we finally ordered drinks she was so distracted she made us some unordered watermelon shots and kept spilling the drinks she was trying to make. Finally a table was available for us 50 minutes after arriving despite a reservation at 9:30pm. But it took the bar tender another 15-20mins to print the bill, then take my payment, and hand me change. While I was at the bar I spoke with the hostess asking what is the bar tenders problem...dinner service was equally bad. Avoid!"

"My wife and I went to Aguaviva during a quick trip to Old San Juan. It came highly recommended and the recommendations were right. We shared a ceviche al ajillo which was the best we had ever tasted. It was followed by a whole Red snapper stuffed with mofongo. The fish was moist, the mofongo was stuffed as well, with bits of lobster. In all a memorable dish. We shared a dessert of white chocolate with Raspberry coulis. It was a meal to remember."
