'To those of us who work a few blocks away, the opening of Barcode, in the former Fourth Estate Grille space near 17th and L streets NW, qualifies as big, huge, stop-the-presses news (at least as far as our happy hour options are concerned). Gone is the casual bar-and-grill vibe of the old place; in its place comes LED lighting, brushed steel surfaces, dark-wood paneling, lounge seating and communal banquettes. A set of turntables stand by the front door, as if waiting for a passing DJ to set them in motion. It makes sense to see them, because the bar is run by the DC Hospitality Group, which also oversees Lima and UltraBar.' - Washington Post. Come enjoy an after work drink, stay for dinner and enjoy the scene.

"Service was poor, waited 20 minutes for small plates, and longer for entrees. My guests had to leave as we waited for more than 10 minutes for someone to come clear and take plates, then another 10 minutes for the bill. The restaurant needs more servers with fewer tables to accomodate a quick lunch crowd. Will not bring clients to this place again."

"BarCode happens to be in my office neighborhood. But - I would walk more than one or two block to get to it. The welcoming atmosphere, good quality menu offerings, wine selections and attentive, thoughtful service are all worth it. The experience is always the same - enjoyable. And if by chance there is some off-note, the staff will do everything possible to make things right. I have come with one friend, three friends and a group of eight. Everyone always comments how much they enjoyed BarCode."

When they found out I was observing the holiday they asked what I could eat and put together a great entree from scratch, not something already on the menu. It was great. "Loved the ambiance and the atmosphere of the place but we went during happy hour so it's a bit noisy, you have to yell to talk to someone right next to you. Server was for the most part attentive. I had the turkey burger and my boyfriend had the cheeseburger and both were completely devoured, delish!! Overall it's a pretty nice spot but if you want to have a good conversation I would go elsewhere."

"I went to have lunch with a friend. The service was so slow and the food was barely warm. When we were done eating we sat there for what seems like forever to have our plates cleared and then we sat there until someone finally came over so we could ask for the check. Not really impressed."

"The food was very good--and the menu variety is very nice. While the server was attentive, she constantly would interrupt our conversations to ask if things were ok. Also, she immediately returned after our food was delivered to ask how it was - before we had an opportunity to take a bite. "I remembered their seafood pizza which was off the menu. When I asked about it, they offered to make it for me. When I mentioned that last time the pizza crust was soggy, I was told to order the pizza "well done" and the crust will be crisp - and it was just perfect. The service was superb and we were not rushed even though we were the next to the last group from lunch to leave. And - the contemporary design of the place is a knock-out!"
