Soby's
Soby’s New South Cuisine is an eclectic blend of Contemporary Continental cuisine infused with traditional Southern ingredients, transforming old favorite into something fresh and new. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Greenville, in a renovated cotton mill built in the 1800s. The atmosphere is warm and energetic and the staff is well-trained to provide a fantastic dining experience for all of our guests. In addition, the wine list offers more than 500 selections and is a Wine Spectator Magazine award-winner for the past eight years, a 'Best of Award of Excellence' the past two.

"My daugehter and I were at Soby's fro dinner Tuesday evening before a show at the Peace Center. We had a man named Soupy as a waiter and he was very nice. My daughter had Filet migmnon and I had scallops with mashed potaoes and green beans. Both dishes were delicios and beautifully presented. Service was a bit hectic, but fine for the amount of people tthat were in there. Yes, we will be back it is always a pleasure to dine at Soby's!"

"It was my husband and my first wedding anniversary and we had just moved to the Greenville area. Someone suggested Soby's and it was perhaps the best food we'd had in years. The bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was to die for and my husband demolished the braised beef short rib glazed in Cheerwine BBQ sauce. They even brought their drink menu out on and Ipad so you could search through the extensive list with ease. We sat on the top floor overlooking the kitchen expo with was fun to see all the dishes before they went out. It convinced us into calamari and She crab soup, which we do not regret. Their menu changes often with the season, which only meant to us that we would have to come back more often."

"I have loved Soby's since "before it opened" ! Every experience there is truly top-notch and memorable! Food is always interestingly presented and is delicious! Atmosphere is energetic and puts a zing into your evening. Truly a "team effort" by everyone, including Carl S., to make the visit a wonderful "event.""

"Lots of very good restaurant options along Main St. in downtown Greenville and Sobys stood out as our favorite of four places we ate at while in town. Excellent food and preparation. Fried Green Tomatoes were very good as was the calamari and desserts. Main courses were prepared perfectly! Would definitely return next time we are in Greenville."

"Our reservations were scheduled for 7:30, and we arrived around 7:15. At 8:00, the host still had not called us for a table. A very nice server saw us standing on the patio area, and he asked if we would like to sit there. We said yes because we were both hungry and tired of standing. His service was amazing and the patio was beautiful. The food was delicious! I was so disappointed in the host/hostess because they did not seem to have a firm handle on reservations and seating people in a timely manner."

"Sobys is great! The atmosphere is very lively, and somewhat noisy, but the delicious food and wine make up for that. I enjoyed the grilled salmon with red peas and rice. Very yummy and The portion sizes are perfect. Overall, my friends and I had a wonderful time, and we will defiantly make Sobys a favorite on our list!"

"My wife and I had never been to Greenville before, but had heard about Soby's from a friend. The menu was unique and the food and the wine were excellent. Our server, Lynette, was very knowledgeable and very engaging. The restaurant aalled two days ahead of time and offered a variety of seating choices (upstairs/downstairs, indoor/outdoor, table/booth) which we thought was a nice touch. We highly recommend this place for an overall great experience."

"Went for Mother's Day brunch. It was overcrowded. They overbooked what they can accommodate and it was chaos. Couldn't move and couldn't navigate to the brunch. Staff couldn't get to the tables. Was not suitable for buffet style dining with this many people around. They should have limited the seating to what they can easily serve without there being huge lines everywhere. Would not recommend for special occasions. We enjoy the brunch on other Sundays and go about once every 6 months but for Mother's Day it was not suitable."

"We enjoyed the Sunday buffet on Mother's Day and it was outstanding! Instead of the normal quiche, Soby's served egss benedict, crab cakes, grilled salmon, ham, pork and prime rib. They also served a cold salad of shrimp, calamari and mussels, and the salad selection was delicious. We were seated at 'table 301' - the best seat in the house - and our whole experience was great!"

"I made a reservation online with special instructions included. Our reservation was not properly credited and they obviously did not read the special instructions. Our server was pretty good and the food was great as usual (except my carrot cake had that previously frozen taste sadly). They had run out of the creme brulee sadly. Overall it was an alright experience but certainly not the special occasion we had hoped for- our last grown up dinner before our baby is born/early birthday celebration for both of us. Soby's really dropped the ball by not heeding my special instructions included with my reservation."

"Graduation at Furman and our last visit to Greenville for the foreseeable future. What a wonderful way to say "farewell", with our graduation dinner at Soby's! As always, we were treated to delicious food and impeccable service. Of course, we started off with light and fluffy, and ever so flavorful, cheese biscuits (we went through two baskets, couldn't resist!) and then moved on to the fried green tomatoes appetizer, some of the best that I've had in SC. Although it sounds simple, one of our favorite entrees is the fried chicken with apple butter -- the chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection, leaving it moist and delicious and the apple butter is a great complement to the chicken. Soby's is a MUST if you're ever in Greenville!"

"We chose Soby's to celebrate the completion of my daughter's freshman year at Furman. Wine and appetizers provided a nice start - especially the spice pimento cheese. The menu had wonderful choices to meet our somewhat eclectic taste. The she-crab soup was some of the best we have eaten. The rabbit was delicious as was the chef's special fish dish. The filet chosen by one in our party was cooked perfectly and served with beautifully prepared asparagus. To cap it off we had a wonderful lime tart and very nice creme brulee."

"Soby's is one of my favorite restaurants. The only drawback to the Sunday brunch is there is just not enough room to fit the people, the food and the waitstaff. Our table was right next to the food line, so there was constantly someone bumping into us and we felt like sardines in a can. Waiter was very good and friendly. Beef burgundy a little dry but otherwise a good experience."

"They say a short menu means quality food; this time they are right. Just a few dishes but everything we had was good. Food was fresh, diverse, everything original and carefully made. There were no weak links in the meal, just satisfaction. We had the trout over polenta and a vegetable platter to share, the trout was particularly good, not drowning in butter as some make it, just "trouty" enough. Strawberry short cake for dessert with coffee, perfect finish."

"First time at Soby's. We ate there before the Boz Scaggs show at the Peace Center. The food was excellent. I had the duck, my dinner companions had the short ribs and the special for the night, scallops. We all raved about our dishes. Try the pimento cheese appetizer or the fried green tomatoes. We had both and they were really good. The pimento cheese has just a little kick to it. MMM.
We shared the key lime and banana creme pies. They were very good.
I cannot wait to go back and try other entrees. Our server, Scott provided excellent service and great recommendations."

"My husband I are both vegetarian, so our options are very limited at Soby's. I love their fried green tomatoes and biscuits, which keep us coming back when we have guests in town. The one vegetarian entree is very disappointing....4 sides that don't really compliment each other thrown together to make an entree....braised mushrooms and onions by themselves is not a good choice for a side?? None of it really has a lot of flavor and would be better to include a protein such as tempeh or tofu....or if more vegetables were offered and you had a choice....The rest of the food at Sobys is much more creatively prepared and flavorful than the vegetarian offering. The patio is lovely and the service was great."

"The scenic view (for us) was from the delightful chef's table above station 1, where the chef shouts the orders back to the kitchen staff, occasionally pausing for a glance up and to send a smile to the table. Marvelous anniversary dinner and wine. This was our second anniversary (our own 29th) at Soby's restaurant and we were totally electrified by it. A second family, whom we urged to have their own anniversary (6th) there were just as thrilled as we. We all live in Suwanee, Georgia, and enjoy occasional weekends in Greenville; about twice or three times per year."

"My husband had made a reservation for after the Peace Center Certus Broadway Preview...he was unable to attend and a female friend came instead. We were punctual and checked in- I eventually had to remind the young man that we had an 8:00 reservation. We are both late fifties and were led upstairs to view the cooking prep area. Looking around there were large tables and other seemingly older, more casually dressed people- perhaps like ourselves- which is fine. What concerns me is that upon leaving I looked about the downstairs dining area and found a quieter, younger, perhaps "uptown crowd".
The food - crab cakes- and accompanying vegs were tasty but presentation was sloppy."

"We have eaten and entertained at Soby's many times. Have never been disappointed. My entire family loves to meet and dine at Soby's. Great wine list. Excellent service. Exceptional food preparation and wonderful atmosphere. We love the character of the building and valet parking downtown is a big plus. We be back many more times. "My wife and I have been trying out many Greenville restaurants. Soby' s had always been on our list, but we went to many others before we went here. We were very pleasantly surprised the moment we walked in. The main room has a warm feeling and is comfortable to be in. We were especially glad we had asked for a booth. The booths are private, but still allow "people watching". The outdoor dining looked like fun too.
We will defifitely be back!"

"Soby's was great! The new southern food was delicious. We all started with a good seasonal salad and a glass of wine or iced tea. My entree was NC trout on creamy polenta with haricots verte and blue crab fondue. It was well prepared and presented. My companions had one of the special entrees which was grouper with fingerling potatoes and fiddlehead ferns! Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a good vibe and offers outdoor seating which is nice! I would definitely recommend Soby's!"
