Azuki is a modern sushi lounge. The relaxed dining style focuses on small plates you share with the table. As in Japan, the menu is based on the seasons, savoring the peak flavor of the ingredients. Our Japanese sushi chefs deliver the fundamentals of Japanese cuisine, respecting the individual ingredients' naturally organic flavors.
"Went there for mother's day dinner with wife and daughter. We had a horrible dining experience. They told us they didn't have a high chair for our daughter but 10 minutes later another couple with a child came and they pulled out a high chair for them. Their service was slow and they forget that you're there. Our daughter was tired and grumpy and was creating a ruckus. We wanted faster service to get her home to bed but they took their sweet time. The two rolls we had were pretty good (jumbo shrimp tempura and the dragon roll), but the chicken teriyaki had it's flaws. First it was charred black. Second, the sauce was too concentrated. It's almost as if they reduced the sauce too much, too strong even with rice. Never go back again."

"My Ahi Poke arrived...it was stunning to behold...and with just one bite my soul floated into the air and continued to hover throughout the remainder of the meal. The Kobe roll made me feel warm and fuzzy and completely content. Seriously the best I have ever tasted."

"We ordered three dishes from the happy hour menu, which was still expensive compared to other sushi restaurants we've visited. Their fried root vegetables was delicious and addictive. The veggies were crisp and not oily on the first round; the second round they were more soggy. The salad, a small ball of greens, was also on the h. h. menu. It was tasty but very small. The food from the regular menu was good, but the portions small. We had a coupon for a 20% discount from the Old Globe theatres, where we were headed after dinner. When we presented it to the management they deducted the 20% only off the items which were not on the happy hour menu. The bill for two people, including one large sake, was $62 without tip. It was expensive."

"The "r u kidding me" roll was one of the best sushi rolls I ever had in my life. The upstairs area is super cute and the lychee saketini was amazing."

"We had a group of four.We didn't feel like ordering so we asked the waitress to just have the chef keep making us food until we told him to stop. She and the chef handled the request perfectly. The pacing was great and the variety was awesome. We had a lot of things (specialty rolls, entrees, sashimi apps) that we would not have ordered otherwise. We would have just ordered some nigiri and sashimi. The three specialty rolls we had were awesome (On the Border, one with lemon, and one with Kobe beef). I highly recommend going here."

"Celebrated another birthday at my favorite restaurant in San Diego, Azuki!! Fantastic meals for all 17 of us, and service! There was no issue with the large crowd, and the restaurant was busy. We ate on the enclosed, back patio, which is a gem. It's a hidden treasure, if you have never been. Great place for a romantic dinner, dinner with friends, and large parties!! The food is beyond delicious!! The specialty Sunshine Roll, Bonsai Roll, Vertigo Roll, On the Border Rolls are a few of my favorites. All the rolls and food have such flavor and dedication to the art of sushi. Service is always the best, no matter when I've eaten there. LOVE this place and can't say enough good things about it!"

"Good happy hour menu but service a bit on the slow side. Some of the sushi rolls were expensive though for what they are. But I will come back again for sure."

"The garlic edamame appetizer was amazing. If you go here, you must try it!! We ordered four sushi rolls and all were really good. Personal favorites were the "kobe" and "super dragon." "by the border" is a spicier change of pace for someone who likes a spicy tuna roll. The "bonsai" roll is the only one I probably wouldn't get again because was kind of boring and the taste was masked by the sweet potato/lotus roots piled on top. Service was mediocre. Sit "outside" in the back for a more romantic option...cool lighting and heat lamps for colder nights."

"Our second time back, but our first at lunch. Limited traditional menu, but all delicious food. Pricier than other places we've been, but I had been wanting their Kobe roll again, as it is one of my favorites. Much quieter for a lunch than a previous late dinner, so it was overall a much more enjoyable experience."

"The sushi was all very fresh tasting and pleasantly lighter than many other similar restaurants that have heavy tempura dishes and use too much salt. Service was great - all the waitresses recommendations were as good as she suggested - loved the black cod. Still a bit pricey, but for once at a restaurant in San Diego, it was worth it!!"

"Our favorite downtown sushi restaurant suffered from too much success. While the food was as good as ever, we ended up in the back room, and the service was much slower than usual. We hope they are able to step up their service to meet their success."

"Azuki is a great place to take you're out of town guests as well as a romantic dinner. I think this is one of the better places in San Diego to feast on some quality sushi. If you feel the need to dip your sushi in soy sauce and wasabi, try it one time without. You will be amazed at the different favors that dance on your tongue. The staff is friendly and accommodating so I really can't say anything bad about this place. I suggest making a reservation to avoid at wait."

"The restaurant is quite small and consequently, tables are very close together. Though the food was excellent, it was hard to enjoy it due to a table of boisterous people seated a foot away. The prices were pretty high, and the ambiance left a lot to be desired. There are many better choices for great sushi in San Diego."

"Wow! What a gem in Banker's Hill! The sushi is top notch, and the desserts--OMG, the Green Tea Creme Brûlée and the Sticky Toffee Pudding (I know, an oxymoron for a Japanese restaurant) are to die for."

"Sushi rolls were good but very busy, meaning a lot going on, many items in the roll and really nothing that stood out. The appetizers were very good, roasted peppers and french fried root veggies."

"Wonderful taste, service and atmosphere. The fish are always fresh and the people there are patient and nice. They will listen to most of your special needs. It's nice how they serve both real sushi and rolls. The "Park West" is pretty good, it satisfies the American tongue for Japanese food. The Toro is just amazingly soft and juicy, I ordered a second sushi serving. This place deserves to be called the best in SD."
