"The food was creative, and a few dishes were truly exceptional. The menu is a little confusing with an endless stream of unpunctuated nouns to describe each dish, so we were never certain what we were getting! Also, the owner stood at the table next to ours speaking very loudly for 15 minutes or so with a couple he knew, making it difficult to hold our own conversation. However, our servers were outstanding, and their attentiveness made the evening a memorable and enjoyable one."

"We had a lovely evening at Mise en Place celebrating our 40th anniversary. We will certainly be back for future special occasions. The food was outstanding. I had the tasting menu paired with wines and my husband had the rack of lamb. We both raved about the food and wine and knew we would be would visit this place again. Probably the best restaurant in the Tampa Bay area."

"Went for late dinner "solo" as I was travelling. I was made to feel so welcomed and comfortable. The food was amazing and the server offered just the right suggestions. Scallops were heavenly. The two "standouts" for me as far as service were Lindy and Erika-very warm and friendly. The GM even came over to change my candle as he saw it had extinguished - quite impressive, the attention to detail and caring about customers' overall experience. Loved this place and will definitely return."

"Exceptional wine list, amazing menu selections and impeccable culinary presentation! Service seemed a little uncomfortable with inquiries, as if they aren't accustomed to questions, weren't really equipped to deal with customers intersted in prepation and details, gave perfunctory responses and seemed out of sorts with us. The food is pricey but the entrees were exceptional and worth the $30+ price tag due to perfect production and unique ingredient combinations. The second plates were small for the cost, however."

"I had an exceptional lunch at Mise en Place: Peruvian corn bisque and grilled wahoo with sautéed Swiss chard on jasmine rice topped with pickled onions. I chose the restaurant for lunch with two business associates because when I lived in Tampa in the late '80s this was the restaurant that introduced me and my wife (just married then) to great food. At the time it was in a strip shopping center: no ambiance, it was all about the food. Now they're in a n attractive location, but clearly it's still all about the food. Ad the service was spot on, too."

"Expertly prepared focal points with inventive accompaniments. My dining companion and I enjoyed the soft shell crab and lobster poutine (nothing short of decadent!) up front with fresh seared tuna and venison entrees. We finished with the house-made sorbet and recommended 30 year port. Knowledgeable wait staff who were unfraid to give suggestions when asked, along with an extensive list of interesting wines, completed a wonderful dining experience. The next time I visit the Tampa area, I will be back."

"We frequently eat lunch at Mise en Place, and generally, the food and service are good; however, they need to work on correcting issues. Every once in a while, something will be wrong (e.g. undercooked rice, burnt fried green tomatoes - all routine, we understand), and while they correct it, they are very cavalier about it."

"I was visiting Tampa for work and heard very good things about Mise en Place, so we decided to try it. Overall, it was good. Some items were far superior to others and I wonder if the menu was a bit shorter (there are a ridiculous number of options), if the food might've been a bit more consistent. With that said, the Thai calamari appetizer is unlike anything I've ever tasted and the wine list is fantastic."

"We greatly enjoyed our first and second courses, but the entrees fell short. Four out of our six ordered steaks, which had no seasoning. The risotto that accompanied the filet was terrible, it tasted like cardboard, and was equally as dry. On the other hand the venison and duck were outstanding. The dark chocolate, pecan toffee pie was the highlight of the evening. The service was excellent, up until our entrees were delivered; then we did not see are server until the end. Mediocre for such a highly acclaimed, expensive restaurant."

"I am a huge fan of this restaurant and try to go there whenever I have an event in Tampa. However, this Saturday night I was disappointed in the food. Ivan, the server, was great and just attentive enough but I got the beef Tenderloin and my friend got the rack of lamb. Both were pretty much tasteless. And I mean tasteless - no seasoning at all it seemed.
I will return, no doubt. One so so meal can never negate the outstanding meals I have had there."

"If it wasn't for the kindness of our server, we would never consider returning. The table next to us was so loud, we couldn't concentrate on reading the menu. We typically aren't complainers but we asked to be moved and were acoomodated. Unfortunately it was only a minor improvement. The beet salad only had 5 very thin slices of beet. The snapper was good, and my boyfriend ordered the peppercorn steak but was brought another steak instead which was cooked to the correct temp but not what he ordered. The server apologized and bought us dessert which was a nice gesture. She also brought me a different glass of wine when she sensed I didn't care for the one I picked. Food is WAY overpriced for the quality!"

"There was an arrogant attitude given off by the waiter. Perhaps the restaurant & staff think too highly of themselves. The food was very good I must say. And I would only recommend this restaurant because most people do have a great experience. Perhaps we will get there again."

"As the NY Times is to newspapers, Mise en Place is to Tampa dining......the Grand Dame of fine dining....yet more impressive is the eclectic assembly of foods, wines, deserts, cheeses, apertif's..... it's always fresh and up to date, even ahead of the curve in a lot of ways.
There is no other restaurant in my opinion like Mise en Place in Tampa, it's nearly impossible to not have a great experience."

"Menu was varied as usual, the food was very good though my Tandoori Salmon was brought out cold (it was remedied and the hot version was very tasty). This was a great spot to bring my clients. They spoke about the experience the next day. They did however note that our server was a little too eager to chime in on the table conversation."

"We went to Mise for my birthday dinner last week. We had been before but had only eaten at the bar (this time we got a table). Service got off to a slow start but our server totally turned it around once it was brought to his attention and we thought he deserved tons of credit for that (so we left a very good tip). But that was an anomaly. Usually the service is excellent from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave.
The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous, very chic and cozy. Mise is beautiful but not stuffy.
The food is always fantastic. The beef tenderloin was so tender I literally cut it with a fork. And, unlike at so many other restaurants, dessert is not an afterthought at Mise. They also have killer cocktails."

"I found the listing for Mise en place on the ny times 36 hours in Tampa. Once I looked at the menu I knew we just had to try it! The flavor combinations were perfect and if the same restaurant was in my area I would most definately go back. The service was great and the staff extremly accomodating. If I ever return to Tampa, Mise en Place will be on our list of go to Places. Plus of course I liked the chefs name...

"The food was mediocre. I didn't,t feel much of the food was seasoned well. I ordered an arugula salad with figs, goat cheese, etc. I found one small piece of fig, not even one whole one. My vegetables were very bland and my fish was overcooked. I didn't,t think it had good value for the prices."

"First visit to Mise en Place, and one of the most enjoyable dinner dates I've had in a very long time. Excellent, creative menu! Paired wines and cheeses. The lobster mac & cheese was amazing!!! The snapper was fresh and melted in your mouth. The signature rack of lamb was one of the best lamb dishes I've ever had. Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The servers (male/female tag-team) were discreet and attentive, a rare combination. The prices were a bit high ($225, tip included), but you certainly get what you pay for. We've promised one another to make our anniversary an annual trip back for more. Love this restaurant!!! (Follow it up with a trip to, um, a nearby, famous dessert room, and you've got a winner of a evening!)"
