Piatti - La Jolla
A tradition to many La Jollans, this Italian bistro serves fresh authentic regional Italian cuisine. A landmark Ficus tree takes up one corner of their very popular patio, but the bright and cheerful dining room is delightful during the day or on those chilly evenings when it’s too cold to sit outside. The menu is presented in an innovative and creative fashion offering a wide variety of pastas, pizza and grilled items. In addition, you may find many vegetarian and health conscious dishes. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday and includes specialties such as Uovo Benedetto (Eggs Benefits served on grilled polenta with basil hollandaise) along with omelets and breakfast pizzas.

"We went here due to a recommendation from a former resident of area who is fried. The service was top notch, the house Red by the glass was really something special. Dinner was amazing, was torn between a couple of items and our server asked me a couple of question about what I as really in the mood for and helped me pick something I doubt I would have otherwise.
Penne paste and lamb! WOW it was simply amazing! The lamb was almost like stew that had been cooked for hours, just the right amount of everything, the red wine reduction was perfect. My partner had the veal picatta and was very very happy. Everyone around us was having a great time, we all sang Happy Birthday with gusto to one customer! Parking is an issue but it's the beach!"

"We have been to the restaurant 10 or 12 times over the years. Birthdays, anniversaries, dates,etc. Always a wonderful experience. My wife and I were there on Sunday, the 19t. Great braised veal and risotto specials. Now my 20-something daughters have been going on their own for the same reasons. In fact, one in going tonight with her husband for their 2nd wedding anniversary"

"The patio is really attractive. A large central tree covers virtually all of the patio. In the past the food has been great. This time it was not bad but unremarkable. The service was really good. Every time I have been here except once a table has been ready at my reservation time. The quality of the food has generally been above average in the many times I have been here. This time I had grilled salmon which is pretty much the same everywhere. So, the less than enthusiastic comment about the food is not really characteristic of the place."

"I loved the relaxed and familial feel of this place. Even though it was packed on a Thursday night (good sign!), the staff and decor made our group of 7 feel as if we were enjoying a leisurely meal almost at a friend's home. The bread and dip was so tasty and the appetizers so well-proportioned that I ended up ordering a half-sized pasta dish as my main meal -- and I still left stuffed. Our team has been out to a number of La Jolla's best restaurants (George at the Cove, Eddie V's, etc.) but I actually enjoyed dinner at Piatti's the most due to its neighborhood ambiance and tasty food. Definitely recommend."

"I reserved a table online and received a call about 6 hours before the reservation time to confirm that the reservation was correct. The man on the phone was very kind and even asked if there was a special occasion. I told him that it was a friend's birthday and he asked for a name in order to put "Happy Birthday [insert name here]" on all of the menus for the table (the birthday girl LOVED it). Not only that, but he also asked if we had plans afterwards so that we can be served in a timely manner in order to be on time with OUR schedule. As soon as we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated quickly and our orders were taken as soon as we were ready. Delicious food! Great service! Very nice setting. Would recommend this place to a friend."

"My girlfriend and I visited Piatti during a weekend stay in La Jolla. We were seated in the bar which is a loud area. Suggest you request outside for more romantic venue. The server started out ok but after an accident at another table, his attention to us faded fast. Our meals arrived and we were never offered ground pepper or fresh parmigiana. Everyone else around us did get this as well as his other tables. He never checked on us again until we had finished the main course. We had to ask for a dessert menu. No thank you or courtesy at all. I can get better service at any Denny's. In the right seating with the right server, this could easily have been a 4 rating or higher."

"My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for many years. The food and service are outstanding. They always honor our request for a particular seating area. Piatti is in our regular rotation. The bread is addictive and the gelato is a perfect follow up to a great meal."

"My husband and I decided to try this place to celebrate his birthday. When I made the reservation on OpenTable, I left a note in the "Special Request" section indicating that it was his birthday. The whole experience was terrific. When I called to push the reservation back half an hour, they didn't blink an eye or show any annoyance. When we arrived, they gave us special menus that said "Happy Birthday" on them, they had an attentive waitstaff, and the food and wine were great. For dessert, they brought out a DELICIOUS and complementary piece of tiramisu with a candle on it. It seemed like inside the restaurant might get a bit loud and is more brightly lit than we wanted, but the outdoor patio is very romantic and charming."

"We reserved our table through Open Table earlier in the day asking for a nice patio table for 4. When we arrived it was so packed even on a Monday night and they took us right away to what they called "the best table in the house." And it was.
