"Great romantic French in a great room with a nice vibe. Sodikoff/Pikus have a formula that works. Keep the menu short, but make everything on it stellar; and spend some time on creating the right atmosphere. All their places excel at this.
The only miss on the entire menu are the escargots, in my opinion they are not nice and plump and are not garlicky enough. They the foie gras mousse and cherry compote for a real, decadent treat!"

"I took out-of-town guests to Maude's and made a 8:15 reservation for upstairs seating. We arrived on time but was told the table wasn't ready yet. Despite waiting till 8:45, the table is still not available - was told the table paid but has not left.
We ended up sitting downstairs. Our server was fantastic. When we order, she knows the menu well. We were going to get the shaved salad (which was amazing), cassoulet and pork paillard. Our server recommended ordering just the cassoulet - she was right. It was fabulous! Even with just 2 dishes, we were full. But managed to squeeze in dessert. I like servers who make recommendations to enhance dining experience."

"Love love love this place. Gnocchi, oysters, and half chicken are must tries! Their cocktails are hand crafted and out of this world. Old fashioneds are amazing. Not one complaint about this place. Randolph street is full of amazing places to eat and this is definitely one of them."

"This is our favorite go-to restaurant. The food is great, the drinks are awesome and it is the perfect place to unwind. Additionally, they have late-night dining. If you don't get out of work until 9, this is the perfect place to go with your SO on a Friday night at about 10 pm to have a little break."

"We've eaten at Maude's probably 10 times and have loved it every time. Oysters are fresh. Lyonnaise salad is our favorite. Steak tartare is delicious. Promme Frittes are some of the best in the city. We went with a vegetarian the other day so added a few things typically that we wouldn't order. We ordered the Bibb salad, French Onion Fondue and grilled asparagus. All were excellent. She was thrilled with the menu.
Drink menu is pretty good. Martinis were made perfectly. The Smashes are overpriced considering there's probably only a couple of ounces of booze due to all of the ice. The beers and wines are reasonably priced and a decent selection available. They do have a house wine that is cheap and we really liked it."

"After dining at Maude's last fall, I knew I had to return on my next visit to Chicago. I was not disappointed! Second visit was as excellent as the first. 4 in our party shared a variety of dishes. I have eaten (and prepared) some pretty great salmon, but Maude's is the best ~~ sublime. Chicken liver mousse was pure velvet. Pomme frites disappeared in the blink of an eye. I rarely order chicken at a restaurant (too many more exciting options), but Maude's is the exception. So moist and flavorful ~~ I don't know how they do it. Equally excellent ~~ sausages with lentils and grilled asparagus. In the end, we couldn't decide on a favorite. Service is friendly and helpful and attentive without hovering. Can't wait to go back."

"I have eaten steak tartare many other places and none compare to the tenderloin steak tartare at Maude's. I've had it there 3 times and never does it disappoint. Do not miss the chicken liver mousse either. Be sure to order some vegetables or greens, as you could get caught up in the protein dishes."

"The escargot was very good. the service great , but we felt rushed , when our wine glass was constantly being refilled ( we ordered a bottle of wine) we were not done with our escargot and they on multiple occasions asked to take it away. I felt that they are focused on high turn over , not a place to sit and enjoy, rather sit at bar enjoy a glass of wine and appetizer."

"I met up with some old coworkers and all of us a pretty broke. We didn't want dinner but just some wine and a little nosh. Our waiter never made us feel like we were taking up a table that could have been used by a higher paying customer. We loved the fries and asparagus sides. When I have money I am going back. Thanks."

"We were really looking forward to having dinner at Maude's. several friends recommended it and we love French food. Maude's is a little rustic, but kinda fun! All of us ordered appetizers, primarily to share. The foie Grau was served in something like a canning jar. I was not too impressed.
When our mains came, they forgot to make mind. I sat for about 10 minutes until our server said "where's your dinner"? Not acceptable. Desserts were ok
I wouldn't return based on this experience."

"We've finally made our way to Maude's after hitting a number of the other spots on Randolph and this spot is great. The atmosphere (we sat upstairs) was very welcoming, but quaint and and dark. But, unlike some places where you need to use your candle to read the menu, there a lights positioned overhead to help in your reading, but no worries it doesn't feel like you're being questioned by the authorities. The food was awesome from start to finish. Give it a try, have some drinks and soak it in."

"We have been here several times and continue to bring friends and family. It is very reasonably priced for a "foodie caliber" restaurant. We were glad to see they have added a couple of menu options because we were running out of things to try. Their specialty drinks are delicious and fresh, the wine list leaves a little to be desired. We cannot rave enough about the quality of the food, no idea how much butter is used in everything but it is worth a splurge."

"Went with a few buddies here on a Sunday night. Believe it or not, it is hard to get in without a reservation. There was a band playing some music by the bar. The music was soft almost like a sitar although he was using a guitar. The cassoulet was excellent. The escargot not so much. I've had better in so many places. The drinks were awesome. The smash and the sazerac were amazing. This was my third time here and the place did not disappoint."

"Maudes has a great cozy yet romantic feel- think candle light, some chandeliers mixed with french country style wood-block tables and farm glass water containers. The food is delicious and the cocktails, while pricey (~14) are something truly special- try to get a seat at the bar before your reservation to watch the mixologists at work. This is a cozy place for a date but also works well as a small group meeting place for friends. I highly recommend it."

"Unfortunately we had an uncomfortable interaction with the hostesses. They were incredibly rude, unwelcoming, and unprofessional. They were incredibly under dressed for the atmosphere and couldn't seemed to be bothered seating customers. This was incredibly disappointing considering in the past the host stand has been extremely friendly and helpful. It was unfortunate that we felt the need to complain. On the other hand, we had an amazing server, who couldn't have been more helpful and enthusiastic about the restaurant and the menu. We had a great meal and really appreciated the server. Still one of our favorite restaurants, hope they chuck the new hostess."

"Yes, the selection of whiskeys, whiskys, and wines is formidable, but the food is incredible. We shared several plates: a pork/beef sausage, foie gras pate mousse, salmon tartare. cassoulet with duck, pork belly and sausage, and amazing bread; the tastes were absolutely fantastic, each unique for its genre, and unforgettable. You have to look closely for the front door at nght, but what a find! Excellent service, old school decor...everything terrific, and it begs for a return visit!"

"The hostess was horrible. Flat affect and unhelpful. She kept us waiting over 30 minutes from our reservation time, despite our table being visibly ready for most of that time just because she was so attrocious at communication. That alone soured the dining experience. The smashed potato is worth going back for, if some staff attitude adjustments can be made. The creme brûlée has a great ratio of sugar crusting to custard. Nice French ambience. The waiter forgot out dessert order and I had to reorder it 30 minutes later, the restaurant at that point in the night was not busy enough for that mistake to even make sense."

"We went here for our "reunion dinner" after a trip to Paris that I put together. None of the other women had been to Maude's, but they all loved it! From the food to the service and decor, it was a hit (and better than I remembered). I thought I was over "salted caramel" everything, but the chocolate mousse with the salted whipped cream on top is to die for! Still dreaming about it!"

"Maude's is a beautiful restaurant located on Randolph Street and the interior is perfect for those cold winter nights because you feel so cozy tucked into one of their black leather booths. Come hungry because the food at Maude's will fill you up. It's rich and I would say flavorful, if butter is what you are looking for. My group and I walked away feeling like we ate just a lot of butter, and not much seasoning of french flavor. There were some standout dishes which oddly enough, included the bibb salad and ricotta gnocchi. Everything else is just OK, but I'll be back come Spring/Summer to see if they lighten up the menu."

"Everything I've tried on the menu is amazing! I love the steak tartare, steamed mussels -they were oddly huge- and the ricotta gnocchi in particular. My friends raved about the oysters. We probably ordered too much food for our table - but every dish was worth it.
Just worth noting: The Les Verges (I know I am spelling that incorrectly) drink did not taste cinnamon/apple as described, but I still enjoyed it.
My only real complaint is how crowded the bar gets as the night progresses - so if you are seated at a table near the bar, it becomes hard to hear and people are awkwardly standing very close to you. If you are not opposed to eating early, do so here so you can take your time and enjoy it!"

"We had an excellent dinner, the service was perfection, the music selection and level were not intrusive but created a nice background. Our request to be out by a certain time for a concert was gracefully honored. We would go back in a heartbeat."

"I love this place. Been here once before just for drinks with the boyfriend and knew we had to come back to eat at some point. Invited his family out to meet us here. The food was great, and so were the drinks, but the service was seriously lacking. Our waiter was absent minded and forgot two of the dishes we ordered and brought them at the end of the meal. Too little too late dude. Along with that we were seated right under a speakers which was a bit loud. I didn't mind, but my boyfriends parents asked if it could be turned down, he didn't even bother asking.
At the end of the day I loved the place and will go back, I just hope that we get a different waiter."

"Stopped by on a Friday night after work for drinks & appetizers. Arrived at opening at 4:45 so we were seated immediately. Enjoyed a "smash" cocktail & their champagne cocktail, both were delicious. Ordered the gnocchi & brussel sprouts, both were to die for. Can't wait to go back again & dine for dinner. The menu looked great. Prices were very reasonable for the neighborhood & quality of food & drink!"

"The food at Maude's is great, from the French to the Not-So-French. The best thing about our night though was the service. I made a mistake on my reservation for a party of 6 and didn't realize it until we came a half-hour late. They only have a handful of large party tables so they weren't able to hold our table because we missed the reservation. However, rather than shipping us out to find another table elsewhere they worked very hard to get us a table, and it only took 20-30 mins to do so. While waiting for our table my party spent some quality time at the bar, and the gal behind the bar turned out to be one of the best bartenders in Chicago. Best Sazerac so far."

"Food was amazing, my second time trying bone marrow and it was much more enjoyable than my first time. Escargot, brick chicken was tasty, although I didn't find gnocchi to be all that outstanding as the reviews. I would like to see more menu. We hated how the server (or buster) could not leave us alone and kept asking if we were done and taking our silverware and plates away when we obviously weren't. The inside was a bit chilly and windy."

"I loved everything about Maude's. great table, great food, friendly servers, amazing decor. We had the pork pailllard with mashed potatoes, salmon, farm roasted chicken, shaved vegetable salad, pomme frittes ( of course) ... And chocolate mousse and creme brûlée for dessert. Loved everything. Can't wait to return."

"Every bite of food was outstanding. Don't pass up the side dishes, the brussel sprouts and the gnocchi were some of the best we have ever had. The Lyonnaise salad was incredible and the country terrine was perfectly rich. The atmosphere was trendy and energetic. The only complaint was that our server, who was overall wonderful, could have checked in on us a couple more times. That being said, he was very knowledgable of both the food and drink menu and was extremely nice. We will be back, often, and have already highly recommended Maudes to others."
