"Food was amazing. Waitress belonged more at a diner than at Forest Grill. Nice person but when ordering an Orin Swift wine and the waitress replies "Now which one is that again hon?", you know she either needs to be better trained or replaced."

"Duck for 2 - lavender honey glazed with fennel and brulee grapefruit - what is not to like? Appetizers do not disappoint. Everything is fresh and memorable. The service fits a great evening of food and wine. Servers are knowledgeable about the menu and the wine choices. Lots of great by-the-glass options. Great for a special occasion or just a great meal. Once you have dined here, it will make it to your favorite list. Valet parking is also available."

"All steak, no sizzle. Everything is done on a high end, and the service was excellent, but food was under seasoned and portions small. Would likely not go back. Appreciated the effort bybthe staff and even the chef/owner, put into making an anniversary dinner memorable, but it fell short of our expectations food wise..."

"We were very pleasantly surprised upon our return to Forest Grill after a long absence. The drinks are still too small, but not as bad as they used to be, and the portions are larger and more worth the cost. The food is delicious. The Farm Egg is not to be missed. I could have licked the plate! Also noteworthy was the halibut in parchment and the strip steak. The server was also helpful and friendly and the wine list offered some reasonably priced selections."

"Had the beet salad with goat cheese and greens. It needed seasoning, the goat cheese was just a small dab of cheese hidden by the greens. Sent my salmon back to the kitchen so that it could be cooked all the way through. There was no problem with 5 different checks for our group of 8."

"We have been regulars at FG since it opened. However, our most recent visit was very disappointing. The charcuterie was excellent, as usual. However, three out of four main dishes from the limited menu were marginal at best. The Salmon, the Braised Veal and the Chicken Confit were all bland and relatively tastelss despite the nice presentation. We supposed the chef was going for a light spring approach to the preparation. He missed. On top of the marginal food, they ran out of our favorite bottle of pinot on the limited wine list. We will not go back for some time."

"Had higher hopes based on others' reviews. Went there with a friend for lunch. Restaurant wasn't very busy, which surprised me. Service was friendly but slow. Food was OK, but the menu was much more limited than what was shown on-line. Prices were too high for what we received. May try again, or may not."

"Yet again we were transported by the chef's extraordinary menu. We had the assorted charcuterie, lamb, veal and cod. It is amazing to eat so many dishes and not be able to say which is "best" when each is perfect."

"I was wary of the new menu as I was a fan of several items on the original menu. I was not disappointed though! The lunch menu is abbreviated but has such creative choices. The salad options are lovely and unique. There is a lot to select from if you eat meat, which I do not. The choices for vegetarians are limited, but everything I had was perfect! I can't wait to return. (Chef even delivered our choices to our table and said hello!)"

"Grab your Lipitor and come on down for the most un "Heart Smart" cuisine in Michigan. If you like veal belly, yes, belly, fat laden, slow cooked, then this is the place for you. How about a $75 whole duck, carved off the bone into two 6 oz portions, not including the duck fat. I don't hate my money or my coronary arteries that much!Brian Polcyn was an outstanding chef who has done private parties in my home. What happened?"

"We dined Saturday night. Our waitress was cheerful and helpful. Appetizers arrived promptly. Farm egg was outstanding. Arugula salad fine, not outstanding. Prosciutto pizza with fig sounded great, but was boring. Lots of crust with not much going on. Entrees took forever to arrive -- clearly the kitchen was having a BIG problem, yet no one discussed that with us. Luckily we were with good friends and a bottle of wine so we weren't too annoyed....but we had a right to be, for sure. When the entrees arrived (two fish dishes, one lamb, one veal) they were outstanding. We also ordered dessert. Pear and apple tarts. Which were bland and unexciting in presentation. The chef was in the house Saturday night. I hope he took notes."

"Was very late to seat us, and many other couples, for reservations. Service was slow, food was served lukewarm and wine was not at proper temperature. Manager was rude and hostess had a nasty disposition. Some people who complained enough were treated to an appetizer for their inconvenience, but not everyone. Looks like they cater to regulars and don't care about everyone else's inconvenience.
We booked in middle of day Saturday and were surprised to find so many open spots when most finer restaurants were booked solid. Now we know why.....We won't go back and it appears many other people have stopped going."

"The service was terrible from the moment we stepped on the door. The hostess was not friendly. After waiting for our table for 30-40 minutes we kept waiting once again for a waitress. We ordered two drinks and asked multiple times to order dinner. After an hour had gone by we decided to leave. I spoke with gentleman in charge, and explain the situation. We have dined at Forest Grille at least 10 times and have experienced 1 good experience to 2 bad experience over the years. We are done trying to frequent Forrst Grille. On an entertaining note the waitress said she had the same table leave the night before!"

"All in, one of the best dining experiences I've had in the state of Michigan. Exceptional food, consistent and attentive service, and a balanced, relaxed atmosphere that is missing in most fine dining establishments.
I thoroughly enjoyed each item we sampled from the menu (though the preparation of the olive oil poached black cod with fava bean ragout stands out). I imagine that I would've felt similarly had I ordered completely blind. The menu was that well executed.
Very highly recommended."

"The menu was small and very complicated. I work for a private chef and I had to ask ten minutes of questions to understand the dishes. Bryan needs to stop being on another planet with his descriptions. The one dish that was recommended and sounded terrific was the Farm Egg app. SO sad I had to ask for a salt shaker after two bites. Tried the black cod for main course. It was ok. no flavor added and again, needed the pepper and salt. Why no beef on menu? Two veal dishes, seafood, lamb..... very pricey and would not recommend it to anyone as it was a burden to get through...."

"Food was very tasty! I had duck breast, and it was delicious! The letdown for me was the creme brûlée. It had the thickest layer of burnt sugar on top :^( It's supposed to be delicately thin! And if it's thin it doesn't have to be burned to caramelise the sugar."

"First time at Forest Grill in winter 2012 was wonderful. Great food, great service. Not so much this time. The egg appetizer was way overdone. The onion and bacon pizza seemed doughy for such a this crust. Very greasy as well. Nobody ever asked how the pizza was, or I would have certainly told them. Creme brulee was good. Wine with dinner was good. For only two of us, We were there a long time."

"Overall we had a "good" meal, but for the prices charged it should have been an excellent meal. The menu is extremely small and it was difficult for the non-meat eaters in our group to find much to select from. The salmon was good, but like the menu, the portions were very small. I think we we will wait a while to return to Forest Grill again."

"I thought the ambiance of the restaurant was outstanding. In saying that, I was very disappointed with the menu. I am not particularly fussy and like food a lot but your menu leaves a lot to be desired. The salad was bland with very little dressing on it. The bread pudding was like a little dried up eraser and not anything like bread pudding that I make or have had in the past.
The steak frites that they had on the menu with the previous chef/owner was not there and was greatly missed.
All in all you have a wonderful neighborhood location. Take advantage of it! I would think Brian Polcyn would do better than this."

"They cut down the menu by 30% which was ridiculous. I cannot understand whats wrong with them. They removed the best roasted chicken dish, tomato basil soup, french onion soup, oysters with fries, etc. It was a lousy menu and made the experience boring. I am not sure if they are losing business or money but it seems like it."

"Husband and I went on a recent special occasion. My steak was so tough - worse than any sirloin I cook at home from Kroger. The salmon was so small - my husband was starved afterward. Very small amount of side dish on plate. Really overpriced for amount and quality of food. This was second or third time here. Enjoyed those visits. But over a year has passed since then."

"Went here for dinner...I ordered the salmon. Food did not arrive til 1 hr after ordering! When the waitress put the dinner plates down on our table, I thought it was a joke...the portions were so small! The only items on my plate were a small piece of salmon (approx 4" x 2.5"), 3 tiny orange slivers, and a 2" piece of green onion. No side dish! For $28, I would AT LEAST expect a complete meal! The salmon was nothing special...just tasted like buttered salmon! If you serve me a small portion, at least make the dish something I can't get anywhere else! I seriously could've made this dish myself for less than $5! My bf and I had to go to another restaurant afterwards because we wasted $90 at Forest Grill and STILL left hungry!!"

"Our overall experience was ok. They were out of sparkling water and the wine of our choice. They did not bring very good substitutes in place of the out of stock wine. Very limited menu. Did try to accommodate for gluten free guest. We liked their previous menu much better than the current one. The prices were a bit high for the portions you receive. Plating was beautiful. Not sure we will go back. The meat dish was horrible. Was suppose to come with au jus (was left off the plate) and the meat was tough."

Entrees = (1) lamb = good...shredded lamb wrapped with a green wrap...good but not amazing..lacking more complex flavors
(2) duck = good...cooked very well but lacking flavor (i.e. not good enough that you can't stop eating it!)
At a place like this, every MUST be good by default. However, the entrees were not amazing. This might be to do the new chef who has only been there for a month. However, the charcuterie is absolutely amazing and out of this world."

"Sixth visit. Food continues to impress with selection, presentation and flavors. Unfortunately, we have always found the service to consistently lopsided and unattentive. Recent visit (Feb 2013) saw a VERY limited menu as a new chef attempts to take over the kitchen. Presentation sparse this visit: a protien with limited accompaniments. Would hope that the new chef gets his legs quickly and that they are able to expand menu selection by Spring."

"We waited for our waiter for a good 15 minutes after we were seated (a mix up for which he apologized). The service from that point on was excellent. Our loaf of bread was stale/hard. The food was tasty. My husband complained to me that his portion at dinner was too small--a duck breast dinner with 1 small duck breast sliced (at most 3-4 oz. of meat). My fish portion was similarly small, but OK after an appetizer and I am a small eater. It appeared that most dinners except for the steak came in that size. Expensive per portion, though the preparation was unusual. The bread pudding was OK but dry. The cobbler was lovely. It was a nice place for valentines day as there were all couples and no children."

"If this were my first time at Forest Grill, I would never go back or recommend it. Other times have been good experiences. This meal was tasteless: the chicken was boiled and bland, the onion "soup" was just a bowl of cooked onions with little broth, service was slow but not the fault of the waitress. On the whole, this was an unhappy lunch."

"This place is fantastic! They aim to please right from the beginning by opening the door for us. The hostesses were all very nice too. We just happened to be there when they had changed the menu 3 days prior and the food was very good. Most of us did the happy hour prior to dinner and the drinks were cute and zippy! We also sampled some $3 app's. My favorite was the slider; it was delish! At dinner most of us had the roasted duck breast. It was good, but the skin could have been a bit more crispy. My wife had the beef loin. It was a bit fatty, but the flavor was good. One of our friends had the salmon and it was only 2x3x1 in size; that's mighty small for the price! He said it was good though."
