"Our dinner at Zocalo's was unforgettable, but not in a good way. Incredibly loud music is piped through the entire dining area, making it virtually impossible to have a dinner conversation. The food was outstanding and the service was good, but we won't be back."

"My husband & I were just in the mood for dinner downtown someplace fun to enjoy the weather and the start of summer in Cleveland. We found it at Zocalo's!! Food was great, had a patio table making people watching a lot of fun. Our waiter was very friendly but did forget to bring our guacamole sampler but quickly got it once we reminded him. The food was really good, margaritas were fabulous, and the DJ was exceptional, keeping the action flowing. A great evening!"

"Chips were stale, queso was cold, guacamole was bland and the quesadilla lacked flavor. Good tequila selection & friendly bartender, although even the bartender would get distracted leading to a significant wait time between drink order and delivery. Overall an underwhelming experience."

"We had a party of 14 for my husbands 40 th birthday and the service was amazing!! They were willing to work with us with separate checks even with such a large party. The servers were great and always on the ball, I was so impressed. The food was of course delicious and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We will be back for sure."

"We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Our server was great. The only weird thing was that they ran out of mole sauce (so my friend couldn't get the first dish she ordered), then when she tried to get another dish (some kind of tamale I think), they were out of the corn meal or other ingredient needed. It seemed kind of odd since we were there around 7 on a Saturday night. But the guac we had was amazing and the food we did get was delicious."

"Nice ambiance, that is about it ... the food seemed like it have been under a heat lamp for a while prior to being served, there was hardly any mole sauce on my enchiladas, and the margaritas were too sour. I've had much better at half the price ... Needs serious improvement"

"Steaks were dismal. Served completely undercooked, cold in the middle. We asked for them to be recooked and they were still purple in the middle. Our server was conscientious and brought the manager to our table without us asking. Service was good, just don't order the steaks!"

"We had reservations for 5 a week prior since it was Cleveland Restaurant week, yet we were seated right at the bottom of the staircase (I was practically under the stairs), so we had a lot of traffic going past, as well as a very cold breeze from the doors opening and closing right above us. The food was mediocre (not a lot of seasoning and the burrito was luke warm). The guacamole was the best part, but our waiter was a bit odd and actually brought out an avocado for us to FEEL because he suggested we don't get the guac, since they weren't quite ripe yet. Overall, not very happy with the experience and won't be going back."

"We waiting for our food for 30 min and only ordered salads. After asking for a salad without cheese, I was then served one with cheese. I told the waiter and he said he would have a new one made. 15 min later he came back with a new salad that did not have cheese on it, but everything else was missing as well! He then went back and brought me all the sides 5 min later. By now the person I was with had long finished there food."

"Zocalo is a great restaurant. Everything on the menu sounds delicious. I had the filet with goat cheese and roasted red peppers and bacon wrapped scallops. Both were phenomenal. My party also enjoyed the guacamole sampler before dinner and a variety of margaritas/beers. Our server was attentive and helpful. It was a great experience and I will definitely be back!"

"I thought I was going to a fancy place because of its listing in restaurant week, but it was disappointing. The food was generic, yet overpriced, and the ambiance is best described as "Cheesecake Factory". My expectations were perhaps too high because I have had so many positive Cleveland dining experiences and the set menus of restaurant week are a great way to show that off, but $5-$7 would have been a much more appropriate price point for this $30 meal."

"We came to Zocalo for Restaurant week and overall had a nice experience. The food was pretty good, except for the sweet potato pierogis which were a little bland, and everyone enjoyed their dinner. I think the evening favorite was the sopes fresca appetizer. The only disappointment we found slightly annoying was that only one of the desserts on the restaurant week menu was available of the three listed. We thought this was a little unprofessional considering we were dining at the beginning of restaurant week and having dinner on the early side of the evening."

"We were very dissatisfied with our meal at Zocalo. Many of the items on the restaurant week were unavailable and our food was prepared incorrectly. However, our server took several items off the bill because of the problems. I wouldn't choose to go back."

"Not really impressed with Zocalo. Food was not that impressive and the service was really poor. We had to wait a number of times for our waitress. Would have preferred to eat at our local Mexican restaurant and saved the money we spent there."

"I made a 5:45 pm reservation thinking that an hour and 45 minutes was plenty of time to eat before the Monters game. Boy was I wrong! All but one of us ordered off the restaurant week menu. We put in our full order (app, entree & dessert) at the same time. It took forever for our food to come out. Apps were good, chicken entree was a little dry & dessert was disappointing. Something happened to the bananas foster and one of our diners had to order something else. We couldn't understand what happened though. Our waiter seemed to talk down like he was talking to the table and not the people sitting at it. The dessert nachos needed something else to them perhaps a fruit or chocolate sauce for dipping?"

"We love Zocalo and have been there several times, each has been fantastic. This last time that we were there we were not impressed. Our service was sub-par and the food not as good as usual. Some of our dinners came out cold because they were sitting in the kitchen waiting for other foods to be done, which in turn left things soggy. Drinks lacked flavor. I do have to reccommend the carnitas empanadas, they are to die for! All in all we will probaly visit here again, just disappointed this time."

"The service was very good. Enjoyed the appetizers. Always a fan of table side prepared guacamole. But unfortunately the main courses seemed premade and were lackluster. Blackberry margarita tasted more of lime than blackberry. I would go back but only for drinks and apps."

"I will begin by saying that the atmosphere, ambiance, and location of this restaurant was amazing. We had a seat right by the window overlooking east 4th that was quiet and quaint. The server was very pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful when it came to food suggestions and questions regarding the menu. I had the “Costilla de Zocalo” which was regarded as the “House Specialty.” My wife had the “Zocalo Filet” which was listed as the “Chef’s Signature Dish.” My dish, which was ribs, was extremely tough, burned, and concealed with extreme amounts of barbeque sauce. My wife’s filet was seared crisp on the outside which is to say it was extremely burned and covered with glaze. A manager never came over to the table to discuss the iss"

"This restaurant was HUGE and loud. We sat downstairs at a booth but there were many tables upstairs as well as a very busy bar and and outdoor seating area that was closed because of the weather. We had two servers, one in training (she was much too eager and chatty but she was new), but even with two I felt like we were neglected a bit, particularly considering we were there as part of restaurant week, a relatively special occasion. The food was good though much too spicy. My husband's entire plate, including the vegetables and rice was so spicy he could hardly eat it. Our favorite dishes were the sweet potato pierogies and the banana empanadas with strawberry mango salsa. The menu was enormous, however, so we only sampled a bit."

"I would definitely recommend them for the food. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. I had the chicken burrito bowl which was perfectly spiced and tasty. However our service was terrible. The table next to us felt the same way. My daughter asked for water and they brought her a glass but didn't bring water for the rest of the table till we asked. I asked for a gin and tonic with lime but the drink was served without lime and then I was questioned about wanting lime. The waiter did not tell us about any specials if there were any or offer any suggestions."

"We waited at the hostess' station for about five minutes without being greeted, even though I made eye contact with several members of the staff. It was too loud to ask if we should seat ourselves! Food was a bit spicy and undercooked for my taste, and the (expensive!) drinks came in small, cheap plastic cups. My boyfriend had to sit next to me rather than across the booth for us to have a conversation - but the band was at least talented. Very tasty desert (actual fried ice cream) made up for the rest of the meal."

"We visited Zocalo for the Mardi Gras party. We thought the atmosphere was vibrant and fun. The overall service and food was much better than most of the reviews claim. The happy hour drink and food specials offer plenty of options and they were reasonably priced. This was our second time to the restaurant in as many years and we've had good experiences both times. I'll give it an 8 out of 10 and certainly recommend this resturant for others to try."

"This was the second time I'd been to Zocalo and it was a good experience both times! While it is a little more expensive than your standard local Mexican restaurant, the quality of food is an improvement; haven't been let down with my choices. It actually isn't that expensive, however; I had a 'Cleveland Foodie Coupon Deck' gift card for $10 off $40 and we had to have an app. and dessert in order to actually hit that total. We went on Mardi Gras and they had a Cajun/Zydeco band playing which was a good time! They seemed slightly strapped for servers, though, and the ones they had seemed a bit harried and not as attentive as elsewhere (eg: not refilling waters or asking if we wanted another round of drinks) but that may have been the day."

"The food was pretty good. Partner had the a large burrito with steak and he loved it. I had the carnitas, which was very good and enough to take home for lunch the next day. All the sauces were very delish and complementary to the meat. The meals were very much worth the visit.
My only complaint was dessert. We ordered beignets to go. I assume were made fresh. We ate them when we got home. They were rather hard, heavy/dense and not tasty. Part of a Marti Gras special, they were not like beignets of New Orleans. The sauces that accompanied the beignets were very odd and not appealing, which was surprising since the sauces with dinner were awesome.
Waitress was great. Drinks fun."

"My husband and I don't get many nights alone and the one night we do we had a horrible experience. We were meeting a friend for her milestone birthday. We were excited to try a new restaurant and both love Mexican food. When we arrived, the server seemed mad that we arrived later than everyone else. She didn't introduce herself and asked what we wanted to drink. She didn't seem the slightest bit interested in us and was rude to others in our party. Every time someone asked her for something she rolled her eyes and had an attitude. She then told my husband that she didn't mean to ignore us but she had a party of 20. Well needless to say she was lucky to get the 10% tip I left her bc thats about how much effort she put into our party."

"Very lively, very loud (it was 7:30 on a Friday). EXTENSIVE tequila list! Chips and pico de gallo brought promptly. Flavor was good and fresh, though a bit mild for my taste. Black bean sopes for appetizer was quite good. Light crispy sopes, flavorful beans, drizzle of crema and scatter of cilantro. Dining companion had chile relleno. Broiled/roasted rather than battered and fried. She said it was good, though much different than the standard fried. I had mole enchiladas with sweet corn tamal filling. Well executed, though mole was very salty, but I find most moles overly salty (even at Frontera Grill in Chicago) I would go back next time in Cleveland and recommend to a friend. Worth the trip."

"We took our two sons to Zocalo before the Cavs game and had a very good meal. Our waitress was great--she promptly brought us another flour tortilla when our appetizer came with only three (there were four of us) and she realized we'd been given the wrong guacamole (and brought over the right one even after we'd already eaten some of the one we didn't order) in our sampler without us having to tell her. The fish tacos were good but not exceptional. The queso fundido appetizer was delicious--we'd recommend it, as well as the mango guacamole. The menu is a good value; you get a lot of food for the price."
