When long time local Kevin Valaika convinced his brother, Head Chef Robert, to come to Park City three years ago, they had one thing on their mind: skiing Utah's famous powder, and combining their many years of experience with Asian cuisine to create a unique dining experience for Park City locals and visitors. "Food was very nicely prepared here and we really appreciated the attention that we got from the server. Be prepared in some cases for NYC or SF or Hong Kong type prices for moderate sized plates of good quality fare. We found the owner very nice and we enjoyed the waiter's honest opinion on what to order. I was surprised that as complicated as the food seemed on the menu, it was very simple and tasted very good."

"Bought a Restaurant.com coupon for Shabu - as a local, "deals" are the only way you can afford Main St dining (take away - read the fine print..Restaurant.com is NOT such a great deal!) The establishment is owned by Bill White, the TZAR of dining here in Park City so we were anticipating a great experience. This is a new location for this restaurant and it is HORRIBLE! TINY TABLES jammed together allowing for shoulder and head banging from passing customers and staff! NOISEY!!!! Our particular server was below marginal - but when the food arrived - NIRVANA! Truly amazing. SO sad that the environment & staff made for an over-all negative experience unbefitting the great Bill White because I would cross the sea for that Blackened Cod!"

"My family plus 1 enjoyed several small plates and 2 large plate items that we all shared. My teenage children who are not the most adventurous dinner companions loved the variety of the dishes and told me that " they enjoyed everything that they ate". The Cod was incredible and all of the dishes were very good. Service was as good as it can get. Spectacular meal and great service. I highly recommend."

"We have had several great experiences at Shabu. If you are on a tight budget, this may not be your place. If you like to try well prepared unique food, then definitely splurge here.
Must try the jalepeno yellowtail, wabyu beef hot rock, and blistered green beans, we will order these every visit.
We also enjoyed the firecracker shrimp, crunchy tuna roll and black cod, but would probably try something else in the future.
The artwork here is incredible and very cool. Great for foodie friends and romantic dates."

"This was not a great night at Shabu. The waitstaff was harried. The food was okay. I had booked week's in advance to celebrate our daughter's birthday and requested a booth, a special salad and our favorite server, Chewie; alas, there was no booth on our arrival, nor an apology or an offer to wait for the ones that opened up immediately after seating us, and no duck salad available, which has been divine in the past. The specials were entirely comprised of shrimp, which is not a dining option for two of our party. It was an off night, and sadly our last opportunity in PC to (marginally) enjoy this usually stellar venue."

"Overall the restaurant was good as was the service. However, they cook on grills in a downstairs, no windows environment althought we came early by the time we left maybe 60 minutes later, the restaurant became smokey. They opened up the upstairs door, but this did not properly ventilate the restaurant and we came out with food smells in our clothing.

"I just love this place. I hate to write such a glowing review, because I want to be able to get a table here, but fair is fair. We eat here weekly. The food is diverse and delicious. The service is always spot on. The folks who work here love to share their wonderful fare. Try it all, even if the hot rocks make the room a bit smoky! "Had a wonderful veg-friendly meal that was pricey but not at all out of line with Park City fare. The place is very popular, so even with reservations we had to wait a bit for our table. The server was knowledgeable, friendly, and just the right amount of attentive. The wide selection of sakes went over well. The basement location makes for close quarters, and it seemed like their grill area could have used a bit more ventilation. Still, the coconut-crusted fried tofu was crisp, delicious, and unique; the veggie bling-bling roll managed not to let the avocado overwhelm the other flavors; and the blistered green beans got rave reviews from my wife. Worth the trip and the money."

"The traditional Shabu Shabu was poorly made. It had no resemblance to the traditional one. The broth was sweet where it should be Kombu based clear broth. The tree kinds of source were all non-traditional (and they were sweet again). The ingredients are very off. For example shredded vegetables are hard to pick from the broth. It will never happen with real shabu shabu. Also pak-chi in shabu shabu? The rice was long grain, which does not go well with it as the smell kills the broth's subtle flavor. I like trying new or modified recipes but it will shine only after the chef mastered the original.
I liked the sake based cocktail, and the wait person was always cheerful and attentive. She made the whole experience much better."

"It was too crowded due to te holiday weekend. Seemed like allservers were stressed. Service was slow at best and food was very expensive for the portions. I wouldno recommend in high season."

"Good food. Combination squid and sea weed salad was refreshing and delicious. Sushi was fresh. Servers were attentive despite running around. Fast pace, food came out a bit too fast which made the meal less then relaxing."

"Had my birthday dinner here and unfortunately, some of the sushi that we were served was frozen! When we approached the waiter on this, he didn't offer to bring another option and even kept the uneaten, frozen sushi on our bill! For the price, I wouldn't recommend this place."

"This is a fantastic restaurant. We keep coming back here every time we are in Park City. I think there is no better food after a day of skiing or mountain biking. The food is exceptional and is probably one of the best I have had. It definitely ranks with some of the world class superstar restaurants.
The only comment 2 comments I have: 1) the spice candles all over the restaurant are unfortunate - they make the place smell like a candle store - why not let the wonderful smell of the delicious food speak for itself?
2) we went there twice during the last trip and both times felt extremely rushed during dinner - it is nice to have dinner served quickly, but we were done in 30 minutes, because everything was rushed out so fast."

"If you're in Park City you HAVE to go to Shabu...The owners are as cool and hip as the atmosphere. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable about the AMAZING menu and the bartender hasn't ever made anything other then genius in a glass. I couldn't recommend this place enough."

"We eat at this restaurants a few times a year, whenever we visit Park City. Sunday night must have been an "off" night for them, because the dishes that are consistently good, we're not this time, like the blistered green bean, and the Firecracker Shrimp. Service was very, very slow, and there weren't very many customers in there."

"Excellent Shabu Shabu, very much the way I recall it from my trips to Japan. We visited during Sundance which is really not a fair test with large groups present and general confusion of the event but Shabu stood up to it well. I think I liked the old location better but that is only a small point. I will be returning to Shabu."
