Cibo means food in Italian, but it’s more of a feast for the senses. An intimate yet vibrant atmosphere is accentuated with expressive art in the form of photography, paintings, sculpture, hand-blown glass and live jazz. "We enjoyed the jazz played during dinner but the food was not very good. Tried calamari, bean soup, lasagna, chicken and polenta and none of it was good,"

"We read some of the feedback about slow service and decided to give it a chance. The restaurant has a lot of tables. We were the seventh table to have diners that evening. By the time we finished, there were over 30 tables filled. It is easy to see how this influx would tax the wait staff and kitchen. Going a bit early, like 6:30 pm is a great way to beat the rush.
We had a good, reasonably priced Italian meal. I had the personal sized pizza, which was too generous to finish, and my spouse had the risotto, which was delicious. There was live music, which was a treat for middle of the week dining."

"My husband and I dined here last week and on the whole enjoyed the experience. The restaurant itself is very attractive and inviting. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. My husband really enjoyed his Salsiccia. My chicken dish was too spicy, but the staff took care of it very professionally. The wine list has some good moderately-priced choices. We also tried Cibo for happy hour and it was great. In addition, they feature live jazz--all too rare anymore. The service was a bit spotty--e.g., nobody at the front desk when we arrived and a waiter who was sometimes difficult to find, yet there were not many diners the night we went. The location is right in downtown Monterey – very convenient."

"The food was very good, though there was nothing very adventurous in the menu. The bar drinks and the service were very good too. The place does not have a vibrant ambiance, but that's not too noticeable if you're in a lively group. Dining here was not memorable, but it was a pleasant experience."

"We were pleased to be able to get a reservation online while attending an event that wouldn't allow for phone use.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. Location is convenient for those attending events at the two large hotels within walking distance.
This was our second visit to Cibo, and we will be back when we're in town."

"After checking in we went to the bar order drinks and the calamari. The drinks were fine, though their selection of draft beers is very limited for a restaurant of its size. The calamari was down-right awful: warm to cool, chewy, and unappetizing.

"Very nice dinner with friends! The waiter wasn't as friendly as I have experienced, maybe because it was such a large group and he knew he was getting an 18% service charge regardless of the service. Food was great, Mario treated us very well even though our group was much smaller than what I had planned for."
