Asellina Ristorante
Asellina is a modern tribute to the owner of an ancient Pompeii tavern run by a “freewoman” named Asellina. The restaurant and lounge serves rustic-Italian inspired cuisine by Sardinia native, Executive Chef Marco Porceddu, and is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks . The menu celebrates simple Italian cooking re-interpreted to compliment the sexy design aesthetic – a warm and inviting space to dine and lounge that celebrates the essential elements in building: stone, brick, metal, concrete and wood. Asellina is part of The ONE Group and is located in the Gansevoort Park Ave Hotel in the Flatiron District of New York City.

"Nicely decorated and chi chi but you pay the price for it. Food is expensive small portions and not worth the price. Maybe if you are here on a date you want to shell out $15 for an egg in some tomato sauce for brunch. The burger has no bun and is a 6/10, not bad, but not great. I think it was $17 so I guess it was kind of bad for $17. Bloody marys for brunch are really good though. The flatbread pizzas are average"

"Good food, good service, nothing remarkable but nothing to complain about either. The room is a bit of a hot buzz so if you are put off by noise and a lot of traffic you would not be terribly happy here but if you not that sensitive to it all the visuals are fair compensation."

"We were with a group of 8, seated at a long table. Four people on one side of the table sitting on regular chairs, four on the other sitting on a lower (very comfortable) sofa. There was a DJ, and the combination of the louder music and the distance to the people on the other side of the table, made it hard to have a conversation with more that one person at the time......too bad. Other than that, it was great and delicious!"

"Our visit was a mid-week, 6:30 dinner, so the question about noise may have been lower than normal. We were a group of six people, and the experience was great. We were able to hear across the table, without shouting. The waiter was attentive and the food was quite good, and the ambiance was terrific. I'd definitely recommend this place."

"I went here recently with a group of friends. We were seated near a mysteriously cold draft that made dining really uncomfortable. Also, the table was so dark that we couldn't even read our menus. It felt like we were dining at the bottom of a well.
As for the food, it was disappointingly mediocre for the price. The flatbread was nice enough and the oysters were good, but the paccheri was undercooked and salty and the risotto was boring. The restaurant is stylish but has little substance..
All in all, I don't recommend it and won't be returning."

"Delicious Lasagna Special. Was part of a pre-fix 3 course menu on Monday but I only wanted the lasagna and they were happy to accommodate. Atmosphere is cool and upscale, not typical "Italian". Server was friendly and attentive. I would dine again and recommend."

"DISAPPOINTMENT - We used to go to Asellina often but the service was always hit or miss.
We had friends who decided to come into the city last minute so we decided to try Asellina again. . .Big mistake!
Service was adequate at best and the food was fair outside of the pizza special we had as one of our appetizers. . .One of our party waited 10 mins for his food after they had brought the other three of us our entrees.
At 9:30, we were basically run out of the restaurant by a short, portly what I would assume was a manager. . .He came up to the table in the most rude manner and said, "Please move to the bar and I"ll buy you a drink."
It was not the offer but the approach - Btw, our reservation was at 7:45."

"Go here if you want to impress a date, or bring out-of-town friends to a scene. The food was a 6 out of 10. The waiter was excellent though; he caught an issue that would have been cleared away by over zealous NY bus boys. "It was my first time dining there. Had the strip steak which was delicious. Others had the Pizza, Fried Calamari, mozzarella and tomato and restaurant menu choices. We ordered the truffle fries on the side because we had read so many comments about them. Boy were they right. We had all planned to order from the restaurant week menu but the choices were so limited we ended up ordering from the regular menu except for one person. The atmosphere is beautiful. Its a very quaint space. They even have a large table in a semi private room that would be great for a dinner party. Service was good. Waiter was very patient with all our questions. Everything we ate was so good I can't wait to go back."

"I've been to Asellina several times before and like their food and ambiance. The service this time however was exceptionally slow. They seemed to be understaffed. Every little request from placing an order to getting some water required flagging down a server. The food did not come out completely as ordered either. It's a shame, given this was my go to spot for brunch."

"The food was fantastic! However, we were seated next to the side door. At first, a doorman was ensuring it stayed closed. About 10 minutes after sitting down, he left the post. It was so uncomfortable that we put on our jackets and scarves. Only after our main courses were served did someone FINALLY acknowledge my request to move tables. Very disappointing."

"I have been here before and had a great experience, the food was and is good, with a nice restaurant vibe as well. However this second lunch time experience was absolutely regrettable. It was not busy (a Monday holiday) and we were only a table of four. After an hour, the only thing to come to our table was a small appetizer dish that was part of a prix-fixe restaurant week menu. Several tables of smaller and larger sizes were seated after us and continued to receive their meals before us. We politely asked for updates and were told it would be out shortly. Everyone was friendly but just really disappointed that a classy spot did not take extra considerations when they clearly failed with our dining experience on this visit. Hard to go back"

"Quality of food at Asellina was excellent. The only thing that kept me from five stars was that we were seated by the bar, and we saw our drinks languishing there for about five minutes before they were delivered to us, both times. Definitely plan to go back, though."
