Restaurant Reviews for Il Pasticcio

Il Pasticcio reservations Il Pasticcio

2 East Broughton Street
Savannah, GA 31401

For over 16 years, Il Pasticcio has been wowing Savannah locals and travelers alike. Situated on a busy corner in the heart of Savannah’s downtown shopping district, Il Pasticcio was named “One of the South’s Best Food Finds” by Southern Living magazine. What was once the location of a Lerner’s department store, became Il Pasticcio in 1993 when owner Pino Venetico opened the doors. Tile floors with marble and brass accoutrements enhance the feeling that one has stepped into a sophisticated, distinct, and architecturally rich venue. Floor to ceiling windows allow guests full views of bustling Bull and Broughton streets. Il Pasticcio makes a regular annual appearance in Wine Spectator magazine for its 300+ bottle list and for its offering of numerous selections from Italy and California, as well as South America, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. Il Pasticcio also has one of the largest “Wines by the Glass” list in Savannah.

Il Pasticcio Reviews List

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I know other people have written similar critiques, but it's so disappointing! We live downtown and used to love the place. It was, bar none, the best in Savannah. Everyone knew it. They tried to do that steakhouse upstairs and it flopped: The economy tanked and Ruth Chris opened up nearby. Ever since the owner got married and became distracted, and I think he might have hired his son as chef (not sure on that), its gone to pot. We still go there because its so close and we are surprised every once in a while when its decent! Last time we had osso buco and the steak. Filet was too thin and a little overcooked, the osso buco was a travesty of no taste and too much toughness. Very very sad!"

Review 2 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Il Pasticcia was always dependable, but our latest experience just may be our last. First off, the cocktails were overpriced for the portions - martinis in half full glasses and scotch on the rocks provided 3 sips for 10 dollars. This is obviously one way of cutting back. With the entrees, the waiter messed up the order for my daughter and brought her pasta instead of pizza. She had to wait another 15 minutes. But the real issue was the quality of the New York strips that my husband and I ordered. Since Il Pasticcio recently closed their Bull Street Chop House annex, we assumed they were still serving great steak from the same vendor. Wrong, this steak tasted like it belonged in a diner on the turnpike. We barely ate, but the dogs enjoyed."

Review 3 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We had a great dinner on Friday evening. Small crowd until about 7pm. Both the Mussle appetizers and brie were outstanding and large portions as was the special soup of the day - a tomato with crushed red pepper. Bread was refilled on request and waiter suggestion. Entrees were also very good: Lamb; Veal osso buco; spaghetti with seafood and salmon. Would definitely go back."

Review 4 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I have to say that in all my years of consuming food and experiencing ambiance and service this was on the very top of my list! I have nothing bad to say about Il Pasticcio. I especially loved the waiter. His helpfulness was above and beyond... The menu for the Valentine's Day weekend was superb with a variety of selection for all, seafood, red meat, vegetarian, and combination platters. The wine suggested by our waiter was spot on to boot. He asked just a few questions from the both of us and brought a delightful light white floral for myself and a full robust red wine for my significant other. Since this was a special occasion for my honey I wanted everything to be perfect. Despite the high price it was well worth every penny."

Review 5 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"They had a special menu and the patrons were given no warning. My filet was burned to a crisp and my fiance's trout was dry. I was never asked what temperature I wanted my meat. The onions in my scalloped potatoes were not cooked. The appetizers ( oysters rockafellar and red pepper bisque) were very good. Should have stopped after that course."

Review 10 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"To be honest, we didn't even eat the food there. I made reservations for 13 Feb for my wife and I to have a great Valentines dinner while I was home from Iraq on R & R. First, there was absolutely no parking and no Valet service. When we finally parked the car, we had to walk 8 blocks to the restaurant. We went into the restaurant for our reservations, the hostess was talking back and forth with another employee and ignored us for almost 10 minutes before finally getting our name. Our reservation was for 6PM, they didn't finally seat us until 630PM. We then were informed that they had a very limited menu for the evening due to Valentines day. We finally left the restaurant and went to Ruth Chris's due to poor service at Il Pasticcio!"

Review 11 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I had the pork tenderloin with butternut squash, and it was delicious. My fiance had the rack of lamb and fought with it a little bit breaking it up from the bones.

Our reservation was conveniently made during their 'two for one' special, so we got the Pastry-wrapped Brie and the Calamari -both of those were also delicious. Their two-for-one special applies to their starters, salads, pasta, and dessert. While participating in the special, you have to know they'll add 20% gratuity to your bill without regard to your party size. Our bill for the dinner for two was $100 -two starters(one for free), two entrees, and one glass of wine.

We sat right by the window that looks out across Broughton Street where you can people-watch.

Review 12 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Wonderful experience. I was very impressed with the envirenment and the service. Very romantic. The service was the best I had experienced in all Savannah. I was rather disappointed to find out that the dinner theater had been canceled. This was not on the website of the restaurant nor was it deleted off the Savannah website which offered it as an entertainment venue. However the dinner was fabulous and the service the BEST!"

Review 13 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"This is a volume restaurant with an impersonal feel and service but overall, the food was good. We split a fois gras appetizer that had clearly just come out of the cooler and was just OK. However, our Lobster Ravioli and Spegettini with Scallops, Shrimp and Mushrooms were both very good. We finished with expresso that was also very good."

Review 14 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Disappointing. We did not know that the regular menu had been scrapped in favor of a smaller, pricier "Valentine's" menu- and it wasn't even Valentine's Day. We'd chosen the restaurant to take our daughter and her boyfriend to while they were visiting because of the many pastas and pizzas and yummy appetizers on the menu. They do not eat any fish. We were dismayed at the smaller menu with almost nothing they would like on it, and briefly considered going elsewhere, but it WAS Saturday night. So we stayed. The restaurant was freezing. I am always too hot in restaurants, so had worn a light-weight outfit. Wrong. I ate my meal with my coat on my shoulders and was still cold. Our meals were passable both nothing special or "Valentiney"."

"We were very pleased with everything about the resturant. We made a late reservation on a very busy night, Valentine's Day, but were pleased that we were seated on time. We arrived a few minutes early but were able to find a spot at the bar. The service there was outstanding, plus the bartender just gave us our tab and told us to give it to our waiter. No haveing to check out twice!! The dinner service was good and the food was great."

Review 20 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We got a late reservation and felt very lucky to find a table at a very popular spot on Valentine's Day! The hostess got us to our table very quickly for such a busy night and the food was top notch. As for the bad sides, our waiter was very busy with us and other tables and we took a little longer than expected or desired. We often had empty water glasses and the check took a while to come and be brought back. The menu was limited for the special night but it really had very few choices but what we ordered was absolutely perfect. Most disappointing was the dessert menu for the night. Only 3 choices and we were really wanting something special. Overall, we would probably do it again if we needed a last minute reservation."

Review 21 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"The food had taken a drastic drop in quality since we were last ate here a few years ago. I am not sure if the food quality suffered b/c of the set valentines day dinner special - but I ordered the beef tenderloin and was convinced to get the dry aged Kansas City steak by our waiter - HUGE mistake - worst steak i've had in a long time.

Also, my wife is 6 months pregnant and needed to change a side item - but the waiter said they would not accomodate her - again - i believe this is to be blamed on the set Valentines menu.

"In a word incredible!I attended dinner with my date for the New Year and immediately we were greeted by the hostess who informed us there was a slight wait but that when they were ready for us they would let us know. This gave us time to explore the restaurant, which was breath taking. We finally sat down at the sofa bar upstairs and waited to be retrieved. The ambiance was so inviting that although romance was not on the menu, it happened anyway, thanks. When we were finally seated the chef's menu for the evening was presented to us and a wine list that was extraordinary. However we did not have to choose because our waitress was more than well versed in getting us everything we required. You think you won't be filled but you'd be wrong."

Review 27 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"After reading some good reviews on Il Pasticcio decided to book a reservation on New Year's Eve. Decent restaurant but was just fair, too trendy. Italian food is known to be comfort food, not in a black table and black mats, not a single indication that you were eating at an italian place, waitress knew the menu well but made you feel dumb, almost looking down on you.
Since I'm Italian and a chef by profession, I had no problems but the rest of the table felt insulted at times by the waitress. Reservations were made based on the menu of their website, to find out that it was changed to compensate for the expected volume that night, I can understand that, but the inability to compensate for fish allergies (my wife) was bad, save you money

Review 28 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"This is a wannabe restaurant. It poses as a high end Italian restaurant, but really is just a moderately OK place. The service is fairly low end. The waitress didn't really know much about the menu and wasn't very bothered that a pizza with cheese was brought to our table when we specifically asked for no cheese. Also very slow bringing drinks to the table. The food was pleasant but nothing special. A good restaurant but it is priced as a very good restaurant. For the same kind of money you can enjoy much higher quality at the Sapphire Grill, or, my fave for Savannah, the 700 Drayton."

"Food was excellent but greatly over-priced. Plus, be alert to your final tab. We knew the 20% gratuity was added in to the bottom line but when you get your bill to pay, the normal line for "tip" is still there. Those not paying attention will end up tipping twice. Wait staff was wonderful."

"The restaurant was nice, but well under staffed. Our waiter was friendly but was unable to do a proper job due to being stretched out by his tables. The first course, steam clams, was very good but the main course, fish, came out luke warm. My wife had a similar issue with her pork which was well under cooked.I have been to this restaurant in the past and was surprised by the changes that we encountered."

Review 35 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Service was helpful and friendly without being intrusive. All of our menu selections were delicious. Salads were cold & crisp, filet was hot and very tender, creme brûlée was a perfect finish. Our request for a quiet table was granted with a booth upstairs away from other diners. The evening was perfect in every way and worth the nearly 3 hours travel time."

"All in all with was good. Food was fine, nothing spectacular but the flavors were there. It's a young staff but they are very good. We went on a Sunday which I am sure did not help."

Review 38 for Il Pasticcio

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The restaurant wasn't very busy, but I can imagine the restaurant is loud. We were seated by a window and I froze the entire time. The menu had changed since we made reservations, but there was still plenty of selection. Other commenters had talked about service. My only complaint on service was that the waitstaff seemed to act hoity toity compared to the understated elegance of the Mansion. My coffee was never refilled, and there was only one sugar. I had the gorgonzola crusted filet and was underwhelmed. I'm not sure that we will go back here again."
