Inspired by the artistic scene of 1950's New York, Cole's Greenwich Village pairs American classics with lighter, contemporary fare. The menu, developed by executive chef Daniel Eardley (formerly of Brooklyn's 'Chestnut') includes dishes such as Plancha Crisped Chicken with mizuna, lemon, and olive oil; Cod with celery root puree, lentils, and salsa verde; and Tuscan Kale Salad with escarole, lemon, croutons, parmesan. Cole's Greenwich Village offers a cozy respite in the heart of one of New York City's most vibrant and beloved neighborhoods, serving dinner and drinks to start with lunch and brunch to follow.
"I would have rated Cole's higher overall but its menu is overpriced, especially compared to new and established competitors from Tenth Ave to Seventh and below roughly 20th St."

"They were extremely accommodating to my diet needs. The service was very good and the steak was fabulous. So far so good. At this point I would definitely recommend them. I live in the neighborhood and am happy to find a new place that's so good. A pleasant surprise. I hope it continues to be this good!"

"Came for an afternoon brunch with family on Saturday after seeing the Journal's review. Menu looked great - as did the decor. The server must have been having an off day - was just tremendously rude (had three tables including ours). He was gruff and dismissive - and after fifteen minutes we decided it just wasn't worth continuing the experience. Hopefully the wait staff at dinner isn't the same."

"I enjoyed my cod fish however the rest of the party were not impressed - up there with price and the service was quite poor. Bar person NOT at all friendly (he needs to get a new job, one that he likes) - I liked the look and feel of the place but wouldn't recommend at the moment..............will give it a 2nd try in 6 months time"

"The waiter was very helpful and enthusiastic with his suggestions with things to eat. Service was pleasant and efficient. The side dishes were particular good and interesting. While I love duck mine as a bit too done and a bit too salty."

"I was surprised and very disappointed after reading about the restaurant in a number of places. My chicken was overcooked, the other mains at our table were not noteworthy. The waiter was sincere and well intentioned...but not a waiter. Overall it was a negative experience."

"Everything we ate was quite delicious....we were very pleased with the food...and when evaluating restaurants, we are foodies first. That said, the service ranged from scattered and disorganized to blatantly disinterested. Only one salad was delivered to the table...when asked about it, it seemed as if the other salad had never been put into the system. drinks? Even after asking the server for our wine ( after salads had been cleared!!), he showed zero interest in checking into it, repeatedly doubling back to a nearby table for long conversations....never coming back to our table, never delivering the wine. the manager was both helpful and gracious in dealing with the servers incompetence, but our first impression of Coles was marred."

"Mediocre food. Slow service. Terrible coffee. Came after reading a few reviews - but didn't realize that I was going to waste a brunch slot. Wouldn't go back. Soooo many better spots in the neighborhood."

"Came for brunch on a Sunday. I had heard good things about the restaurant. First hand I did not witness anything good. The restaurant smelled like paint and was hot and stuffy. It took us asking 3 times to get the fans turned on. Our coffee was brought twice with no milk or sugar on the side. We asked for it, but it never arrived. The food was fair. The Croaker was INEDIBLE. We spoke to the manager on our way out, and simply got a shrug as a response. Not sure why there's any hype for this restaurant!"

"Cole's has a warm, magnetic ambiance. It's got great light and luxe feeling booths (my favorite!) with the feel of an expensive restaurant but it won't break your bank. Perfect for a date, girls night, or a place to bring your parents.
Love love love. One of my new neighborhood gems!"

"We had grilled squid, a delicate roasted vegetable salad, a chickpea "panisee" and the roasted chicken. Everything was good, but I wouldn't say it was particularly distinctive. We are spoiled in New York to find this level of food often. Its a lovely, intimate space, and there are also a few tables in the bar area."

"The food was great, although not quite perfect - that's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. I had the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and crispy on the edges; however, the swiss chard underneath it was bland and the great northern beans were considerably under-done. The service was excellent; our server couldn't have done anything better. I think he refilled my water glass every single time I took a sip (but not in an annoying way). The decor and overall feel were great, but the tables were way too close together. They're clearly trying to maximize the revenue by squeezing as many people in the restaurant as possible, but it just wasn't comfortable."

"The dining experience at Cole's was better than I and my dinner companion had expected. Albeit a bit noisy and cramped at first, the food and its presentation were very satisfying. I would certainly return to Cole's and I have told other friends to book a table as soon as possible."

"Visually very appealing. Unsophisticated staff, but trying. The food is undistinguished and slightly overpriced. All totally acceptable if the point of the meal is social and not culinary."

"I miss Cafe Bruxelles. This place is nice, quite a lot fancier, and pricier. It was very busy, maybe because it is still new. The food was great and the service was just ok, together though not good enough to justify the high prices in my opinion. I kind of got the impression the staff were rushed off their feet and a bit fed up."
