Located in a brownstone in the heart of the Upper West Side, La Boite en Bois has been a favorite among diners for 26 years. With its rustic ambiance, it feels as though you are in a bistro in the French countryside. In close proximity to Lincoln Center, we offer a pre-theater menu. Serving classics from Escargot to Salmon to Roasted Duck, you will be delighted with our extensive selections. We serve lunch everyday, with a variety of salads, panini, and classic French dishes, such as Croque Monsieur and Onion Soup. Come Sunday for our Brunch, and enjoy Eggs Benedict or Pain Perdu (French Toast). At La Boite en Bois, our attentive and well-trained staff will be sure to provide you with a memorable experience.

"I dined here with the love of my life before catching an afternoon NY Philharmonic performance at Lincoln Center. I started us off with a nice bottle of Sterling Vineyards Pinot Noir; for appetizers I chose Pate Maison and Warm Garlic Sausage over Lentils to share. For entrees I selected their Omelette with Mushrooms and Goat Cheese while she chose Veal Cutlets Milanese topped with Tricolor Salad. For dessert she devoured the Assorted Fruit Sorbet. A cup of Cappuccino and a glass of Cognac completed a very good meal. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic. The restaurant is quite small but for lunch it wasn't packed so it was okay. The service was excellent and quick."

"2 blocks from Lincoln Center is this small French bistro style festaurant located below street level. The food offerings are centered around fish and the typical French offerings. We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers of pâté and mushroom and ricotta stuffed ravioli in cognac sauce. The ravioli was offered as an appetizer or main course. i strongly recommend this dish. The veal and duck entrees did not disappoint. Several options for desert, but we were full so we opted for the mango and lime sorbet made on site. Attentive, courteous and efficient service. If French cuisine is appealing to you, strongly suggest it be given a try. House wine better than most and reasonably priced."

"La boit has always been consistently good, warm, efficient with typical French bistro food. Pre theatre is prix fix but offers a good choice of meat, poultry, fish and vegetable dishes. The leeks and pâté are excellent. The lotte is fresh, perfectly cooked. The desserts, typically French. The wait staff is attentive to time and reminds you of your need to leave to catch the show. The restaurant is small, intimate and offers little privacy for private chats. It's a busy, happy, not stuffy spot."

"This was a last minute lunch reservation after discovering that it would be pouring when we came out of Lincoln Center for a graduation. Quick walk into a tiny downstairs spot. Waitstaff could not have been more attentive. The place quickly filled to capacity but the noise level wasn't bad. Food was excellent! Can't wait to try them for dinner the next time we have tickets to Lincoln Center. A gem!"

"When my husband and I go to a show at Lincoln Center--we like to dine at a cute little Fr. bistro-"La Boite...." It's a few steps down to an intimate restaurant with excellent escagot. Baguettes are served with sweet butter. We had lunch there (the dinner menu is a little more extensive) for $28. prix-fixe. I had a chicken -marsala style dish & my husband had salmon with an excellent honey-mustard sauce. The deserts--bread pudding were good & also the traditional creme-boule. The sorbets are home-made. All in all-a very nice experience."

"We had tickets to Lincoln Center and so we went and had dinner here for the first time. We loved the neighborhood and the feel that this is a neighborhood restaurant that is well loved. The food was delicious and the overall experience reminded us of being in Paris again.

"This is my fourth visit to this restaurant over many years. Each time I go, I'm delighted first, by the food preparation and second, by the very family French environment. Not pretentious, just intimate French, as if you've stepped into a local find on your travels through the French countryside. "Tried this restaurant as a pre-ballet dining spot as it is close to Lincoln Center. Seated and seat was wet where an air conditioner had dripped on it. Wiped chair dry with napkin and was told that the napkin was very expensive. I think they were trying to be funny, but it wasn't. They should have moved us right then, but instead waited until we were dripped on and they asked if we'd like to move. Overall, after we moved, service was not great and food just ok."

"We had been to this restaurant once before, for a pre-theater prix fixe meal. It was good for what it was, but very crowded with the tables right on top of each other. This time we were there early after an afternoon performance and when we got there the place was almost empty. I got the feeling that the manager was away, as the staff was awfully casual and seemed to be doing more conversing than serving. The food was fine - typical old-time French fair, no nouvelle cuisine here. A reasonable alternative for Lincoln Center."

"Very good bistro with all the French classics, moderately priced, well-located near Lincoln Center. The space is tiny and charming, rough-hewn paneled walls decorated with old photos and small antique objects. To start we had a mixed seafood crepe and a plate of smoked salmon and trout - delicious and light. For entrees we had the duck (not as memorable) and monkfish (excellent). They offer a nice wine selection and attentive service. By arriving at 7:45, we missed the pre-theater rush and had a quiet, relaxing meal."

"I had been to this local favorite once before, and my second visit did not disappoint. We had a lovely waitress who was friendly and willing to speak French with me, and we had a superb meal. The dressing on the salad special was just right, and the fish was cooked to perfection. If you didn't know you were in the city, you'd think you we're tucked away in a little corner of the left bank. Can't wait to go back!"

"We've been going to La Boîte en Bois for more than 30 years. It's our favorite Lincoln Center neighborhood restaurant, used for special occasions and impromptu dining. Food and service are first-rate. The wine list including half-bottles is small, select and not too expensive. The place is small and table are close together - one steps down from sidewalk level. Nonetheless, ambiance is typically French and inviting. Reservations are strongly advised."

"We much enjoyed our dinner at La Boîte en Bois. The appetizer portions were large and beautifully presented. The mains were delicious. I was a bit annoyed to find that the prix fixe was mandatory until 7:30 as I do not usually eat dessert. However, this was clearly stated on the website and not a surprise. For the price, I think it would be gracious to include coffee."

"La Boite en Bois is a very comfortable neighborhood restaurant. Welcoming and with good, if not inventive, French food. We had the pre-theatre prix fixe menu - the only available one before 7:30 p.m. For a prix fixe menu, it had many selections and also offered some specials. We both had the serviceable salad special - watercress and pear. I had the lamb stew, which was very good, and my friend liked her scallop dish very much. If you want to linger, you need to let them know, as the food arrived quickly."

"We love this restauant. Excellent french bistro style cuisine. Very small and initimate. Good wine selection . Everything is reasonably priced. We love our server, Mrie. She makes us feel like we are coming to dinner in someone's private home."

"La Boîte is a very charming restaurant serving traditional French fare. The tables are close together and there's not much room to circulate once you've been seated but it's cozy enough that you don't mind. The wait staff was very attentive ( they can't go very far away!) and the food was delicious. I will definitely go back."

"It's prix fixe only from 4:30 to 7:30 but there are enough choices to satisfy nearly everyone, and there are daily specials. The food is delicious; the waitstaff is outstanding, and the maitre d' is wonderful. Staff walks a fine line between not letting you sit too long with nothing and not rushing you, and they do it well. There are a lot of restaurants near Lincoln Center, and La Boite en Bois is the one we come back to the most."
