An authentic Raleigh experience! When the Irregardless opened in 1975, it was known as the hippie, vegetarian place. In the 80s, it was the first restaurant in NC to ban smoking. Today, the Cafe is the longest operating restaurant in Raleigh with the original owner. It has changed much over the years but its core values have remained the same. It’s award winning, hand-crafted meals feature local and organic ingredients. A casual fine dining restaurant, the Irregardless offers fresh seafood, meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items - which all respect the environment. We also have a list of unique wines and craft beers as well as espressos, cappuccinos and 25 loose teas. Live music is performed nightly. Our large stable of musicians play everything from jazz to bluegrass. These groups are listed on our website. Larger bands play on Saturday evenings for dancing.
The Irregardless Cafe is the place where friends dine regularly.
"Our entrees were delicious and beautifully presented. I had the fish cakes, and they were just great! Everyone thought his meal delicious. Our server made sure that we were finished when we needed to leave and expedited our service to meet this end. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals."

"What a great place! The food was awesome, the wine was well matched, the ambiance was classy and romantic, and the live music was just enough to be enjoyable without disturbing conversation. We stayed until they cleared out the dance floor around 10, and danced our way to a perfect evening. This may be our new favorite restaurant."

"We made reservations & I would suggest anyone going for dinner do the same - they get busy starting around 6pm - but it's not required. They usually have one or two musicians playing music, and it is a clean facility with a few outdoor tables. Wait staff was attentive and courteous. The menu is geared towards vegan/vegetarian with gluten free options, but they have meat dishes as well. Our food was very good & the desserts were delicious! We've visited in the past for Sunday brunch and thought the food was just as yummy. The only negative is that some of the tables are positioned rather close to each other so private dining isn't really an option. This restaurant is good to have on your list of places to dine out!"

"We've long loved Irregardless, mostly because the food is so innovative and delicious, but this last Thursday night the chicken kabobs were tough as were the lamb samplings. Soups and salad were terrific as usual. Nobody's perfect so we'll come back, but we thought you ought to know."

"My husband and I have not been to Irregardless Cafe for at least 15 years. We re-discovered it with friends who wanted a good vegetarian selection. The IC experience was quite good from highly capable staff to delicious food. The prices are reasonable. The only minor glitch was that my husband waited a while for the glass of wine he ordered when his meal arrived. The noise level is loud with the nightly entertainment so go early if you prefer a quiet atmosphere."

"I cannot get over how good the chile relleno is! And the hummus! And the garden salad with lemon tahini dressing...and the ambience! Irregardless is a gem. The food, the staff and the ambience converge to make a consistently great and nourishing dining experience. There are many great restaurants in the triangle but Irregardless remains our favorite! We also really enjoyed the harp music on our evening there."

"I had not been tothe Irregardless Cafe for a while and was pleasantly surprised at the menu. There were a lot of choices and we loved our entrees. I had the Morgan Street Chicken which was a flattened chicken breast with a delicate crunchy crust nicely seasoned! My sister had the Steak in Peppercorn Sauce and it could not have been more delicious. There cobbler dessert was also very good. Service was exceptional and it was a busy night! The music did not take over as it had in the past. Compliments to the Chef!"

"I've been to Irregardless several times and enjoyed it on each occasion. This Saturday, however, my family and I celebrated my graduation with a brunch there and it was beyond satisfactory. My parents had never been and were so impressed that they are interested in coming back (a statement that means a lot since the menu is priced a little higher than we normally pay).
Very charming, awesome food, good service, peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. You can't go wrong. We will be back."

"The food was excellent, and the order was exactly right. The noise-level feels a little bar-scene for such a quaint place, but if you have great hearing, then you should be okay! I was surprised to see live music on a Tuesday night, but in a good way. The service was quite slow and initially, despite a reservation, there was no initial acknowledgement that we had come in. After that, the waiter kept apologizing for being so slow, but didn't speed it up much. As we were not in a hurry, it didn't matter much in the end. The excellent vegetarian/vegan options and the tasty dessert made it all worth the wait."

"As others have mentioned, the turnover rate at Irregardless Cafe is variable, based on the live music of the day. There were no tables for 2 available when we arrived, so we took a "shelf table" in the bar area. We felt a little crammed, the wait staff were frequently working right in front of us, and our view of the musician was partially obstructed. However, my husband and I enjoyed sitting side by side for a change. We had the Vidalia Onion flatbread, which was quite good though perhaps a little oily, Seafood Linguini and Paella, which were both delicious, but not the best we've had, and the Lemon Semi-Freddo, a very unique and refreshing dessert - I highly recommend it!"

"We had a group of six ranging from 12 y.o. to 67 y.o. and I can say everyone found something he or she liked. We had a wide range of foods from every section of the menu. The portions were generous and everything seemed very fresh. They happily split some of the salads for us because we wanted to try some of the dinner salads rather than typical side salads. Interestingly, my daughter's Sprite was brought to the table in single serve glass bottle from Mexico. Apparently, they use real cane sugar in Mexico rather than high fructose corn syrup. So the restaurant has the soda brought in from Mexico! There was a talented musician playing guitar who added wonderful background music rather than being a loud distraction."

"Please note this is a review of our brunch experience as vegetarians. We understood Irregardless was a vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant, but they had very few brunch dishes without egg or dairy. Ambience wasn't as cute as I expected."

"Our group of four visited Irregardless for dinner on Friday evening. We split a bottle of wine (based on a recommendation from our server). After placing our order for salads and entres we asked for a wine recommendation. The wine complimented our four very-different entres nicely. I had a house salad and chicken pad Thai. The Pad Thai was flavorful withou being overly hot. It was complimented with a wide selection of fresh vegetables cooked into a classic rice noodle Pad Thai. Hats off to the kitchen for coming up with a unique and flavorful twist on a common dish. All in our party had similar pleasant dining experiences. Our server was excellent. The live jazz trio was a great compliment for ambiance."

"In addition to the quality of the food, the presentation is also very good. Normally vegetables are treated as after thought in many average restaurants. Not here. Because this restaurant had its beginnings as a vegetarian restaurant, it has maintained the quality and taste of the vegetable dishes.
What makes this restaurant fun is that they have jazz as dinner music and later the band expands to standards jazz dance music. There is a small dance floor that is created as tables are cleared.
The whole restaurant vibe is more a Cabaret environment. Everyone is friendly. There are no other restaurants like this in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area."

"Never disappoints. Consistently an intimate dining experience...great food, relaxing music, courteous and friendly staff. My favorite spot in Raleigh. Great location for a superb dinner before leaving for a play or concert at BTI. I must confess it is often I would refrain from the latter in order to remain at Irregardless !"

"We found our first visit to the Irregardless Cafe to be very enjoyable, to include a very nice menu of moderately priced entrees. We did have an early reservation (6 pm) and upon our arrival were warmly greeted and seated at a table of our choosing. The restaurant filled quickly and the Jazz music started promptly at 6:30 pm., with a very enjoyable selection of songs. Our entree choices arrived and exceeded our expectations on presentation, taste, and amount of food. Overall a very good experience and we plan to return."

"This restaurant serves very good food for those with dietary issues -- vegetarian, vegan, organic food requirement. For all others, there is a limited menu. I had the duck ravioli which was very good. That is one of 3 dishes I could have ordered, even though there is a pretty large menu. I also couldn't find a wine I particularly liked on the menu."

"We had a reservation for 8pm and arrived 5 minutes early. We were told it would be a few minutes until we were seated. There were several open tables and one for 2 that was open that we noticed while we were waiting. After 15-20 minutes of waiting and watching other people who came in after us get seated, we asked the hostess if we were going to be seated. She asked us what our name was again and said it would be a few minutes. Finally, we got seated at the table for 2 that had been open all along! Very frustrating! Got the feeling that you have to be a "regular" there to get proper treatment."

"We are never disappointed with the service or the food at Irregardless. Both are high quality. It's always well worth the extra bit of driving time that is required for us to get there. Unfortunately our table was right next to the entrance this last visit. It was somewhat noisy and we all ended up putting our coats on to stay warm with the door draft. However, that wil not keep us from a return visit. We'll just know to ask to be seated elsewhere!"

"Our table for four was intimate, comfortable and far enough away from the jazz ensemble so that we could easily hear each other. The waitress, Olga, was superb with an excellent knowledge of the menu and food preparation. The space between courses was well-timed and we never felt rushed. Great evening with great friends. "The food was great and the atmosphere was good until a wellness talk about microbes in the GI tract started. Luckily we were done eating and were able to escape before being subject to the whole talk. Perfectly fine idea to have a wellness talk, but had I known that was happening that evening, I would not have chosen this restaurant."

"This was the first time that I have been to Irregardless in fifteen years. At that time, there were not many restaurants in Raleigh that had a real chef and was focused on serving food that was carefully and thoughtfully prepared with fresh ingredients.
We ordered the Vegan Nuggets and when they arrived they were pale gray gelatinous looking blobs with absolutely no flavor. Like my friend at the table said, "no one should serve gray food". My Pad Thai was very disappointing with overcooked vegetables and noodles in a very watery sauce whose only flavor was possibly chili flakes. The Morgan Street Chicken was not much better, but two our party ordered it and said that other than the chicken being a little dry, it was fine."

"We enjoyed the jazz group while dining and the food was very good, as usual. Unfortunately we never got the appetizer we ordered. The waitress offered to bring it after delivering our main course (we declined - who wants an appetizer when your hot entree is sitting in font of you). Would have been nice if she offered a dessert on the house to make up for the error. The wait staff has been better in the past. Maybe just an off night."
