Redd
REDD, which opened its doors in November 2005, is the first venture from acclaimed Northern California chef Richard Reddington, who offers an updated interpretation of wine country cuisine in a decidedly relaxed environment.
REDD reflects the passions of a serious chef who, after 15 years in some of the best kitchens in the United States and Europe, has found the perfect balance of serious food and unpretentious ambiance. "With Redd, I've created the type of restaurant that I like to spend time at--an inviting place that serves creative food and thoughtfully chosen wines in a relaxed, but elegant, contemporary space." Drawing from his classic French and Mediterranean sensibilities, chef Reddington has created a cuisine that combines flavors and textures that match well with local wines.
REDD’S menu showcases regionally inspired seasonal selections with ethnic influences. A daily 5 course chef’s tasting menu is also available in addition to the regular menu.

"We were there for brunch and it was good but nothing outstanding in terms of the selections and quality. Nice atsmophere, but service wasn't attentive enough as we had to ask our server to refill our wine glasses a couple of times. For the prices they charge, I was expecting more."

"Redd is our all time favorite restaurant in the Wine Country (Yountville). We had lunch there this time and every dish we ordered was superb; Duck confit with lentils, prime NY steak sandwich, Asian pork buns and diver scallops. The food and service was outstanding and we can't wait to go back for dinner."

"Ordered the tasting menu for our table of 3. Everything came out perfect and delicious. However, I was disappointed in the dessert portions, which was only about 1 large bite worth of food. If trying Redd for the first time, I would recommend the tasting menu since there are two "sets" to the menu so essentially you get to taste 10 different dishes.
Service was ok, but was not too friendly or available. I expected much better.
We had two orders of arnold palmer and lemonade each, but both tasted much more sour and diluted on the second round. Should have better quality control over drinks.
Bar area was quite loud which ruined the dining atmosphere of the small restaurant."

"We ate at Redd on a Friday night which i s generally busy . Our reservation was early so there was no wait time to be seated. The hostess was attentive. Our waiter did not have much enthusiasm or pizazz--didn't try to sell us beyond the first glass of wine we ordered and we had to ask for tea. The star obviously is the food-. We had fabulous entrees-both fish and outstanding desserts. This place is a winner."

"My boyfriend and I dined here on our recent trip to Napa, and this was by far our favorite restaurant we had visited. He has a culinary degree and owns a catering business, and my mother is an executive chef for a well known country club and we both were blown away by our meal. We chose to do the five course chef's tasting with wine pairings. The food was out of this world, I really can't put into words how much we enjoyed ourselves. The wine was decent; however, I don't think it held up to the meals presented to us. We had great service; they did however, pipe "Happy Anniversary" on our dessert plates - when in fact, it was not our anniversary. We really just got a good laugh about it. We will definitely be back on our next trip."

"Went for my sister's birthday dinner (on a Tuesday night, and the place was still packed!). Service was prompt and courteous. Water was always filled. Didn't get bread though, but I think you have to ask for it which we failed to do. We got two freebie courses for the table to share/try. Not sure if that was because I had mentioned it was a birthday dinner, or if that's normal. All the food was excellent. Favorite dishes were the seared scallops and ny steak with short rib and bone marrow gnocchi. All the dishes were expertly prepared and at the perfect temperature. Prices are about average to maybe on the lower side for what it was. I would definitely go back and recommend it to friends."

"Redd is now my favorite restaurant in Napa. Everything was so delish...appetizers (asparagus salad), main dish (Pork Tenderloin) and desserts (Bake Alaska and Butterscotch Pudding). My hubby had the Glazed Pork Belly, and Carmelized Scallops, also were delish! My friends had the Petrale Sole, Sautéed Skate Wings, Sashimi Hamachi...all were wonderful! I'm definitely coming back and bringing my adult children to Redd. Love, love, LOVE this place.
Oh....and the service was exceptional!"

"Our experience was disappointing. The dining room was very loud, I suspect the wood floors have something to do with that as we had to speak very loudly to have a conversation. The tables were also very close together. We had oysters to start and they were fishy tasting. The menu was limited but the chicken was juicy but at $35 it was priced high. I had the steak and it was ok but pre sliced (why??) and average. When I complained about the oyster the server's response, "ok." So many other choices in the Valley and the Michelin stars need to be stripped down."

"We celebrated my friend's upcoming birthday with dinner at Redd. Interesting concept with the tasting menu offering five different courses and wines - per person. We tried some of each others dishes and wines and got to taste almost ten different courses and wines altogether! Very attentive and friendly service and all dishes were well presented. We also tried Redd Wood and really liked it as well. We cannot wait to go back to Yountville!"

"We didn't really care for their food. We ordered Pork Buns and it was too salty. I had the Halibut and it smelled so bad. I have to discreetly asked the waiter to take the food away from me because I couldn't stand the smell at all. They were nice to offer a replacement though. The Brioche French Toast was very good. My bf had the lobster club or something and it wasn't fantastic, it was just ok."

"We've been here a few times (all great), but this time we opted for the Tasting Menu.
There were four of us. To get the Tasting Menu, the entire table must order and we happily did, as it was a special occasion with good friends. The food was excellent, and well paired with great wines.. There were two different options per course, so each couple got 2 completely different courses. Nice touch. We were completely impressed at every step.
The staff at Redd is exceptional. Good fun."

"My wife and I have frequented most if not all of the top restaurants in Yountville and Napa, and I must say, Redd is the best of the best. Yes, better than Bottega, Bouchon, Ad Hoc, Hurley's combined. The food is sepectacular, cooked and presented to perfection. The combination of flavors is fantastic. Whereas my wife and I feel (she being a chef herself), that those other restaurants try too hard to be "unique" and wind up being trendy and artificial, Redd excels on every level. Go go go. You cannot go wrong!
And the desserts. HOILY SH&*%! Amazing beyond belief."

"We made reservations at Redd's thru Open Table - had an excellent lunch. Service was excellent and very friendly. The food was fresh and inventive. It is a bright, airy restaurant in the heart of Yountville. Would highly recommend it to anyone for any meal.

"Last ate here in 2007, only slightly a year after it opened and it was fabulous! Have been back to Napa since then, but with so many good places to try, we had been a little afraid that it wouldn't live up to our first experience. No worries there! The food was absolutely fabulous...get the 5 course tasting menu and if there are two of you, each of you will get different 5 courses so you can really try 10 things! The highlights: Hamachi appetizer, duck (wow wow wow!), pork belly, and desserts - one a strawberry sorbet, the other chocolate. Service is efficient, unobtrusive and to me, highlighted our enjoyment of the food.

"Dinner with 4 serious foodies on April 27. We did the chef's tasting menu plus wine pairings. There were two separate menus - one served for the women and one for the men - thus everyone shared with spouse and we had a chance to try 10 dishes instead of 5. Every single morsel of food received a sigh of satisfaction - and a reflection that this was one of the best meals we can remember. I would note that our group is comprised of traveling consultants that dine out at high end restaurants several nights a week across the country. We HIGHLY recommend this dining experience."

"My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Napa and planned our special dinner at Redd. We noted as much on our Open Table reservation. We were swept very quickly to our table and neither the Host seating us nor the waiter recogized our special occasion. I would say the service was extraordinarily professional and highly qualified but almost robotic and impersonal. We enjoyed the tasting menu and found it to be fantastic and well worth the price. The food was definitely 5 star! The wine list was a little overpriced but not surprised. We did receive dessert plates with the words Happy Anniversary written in chocolate sauce in the end. "The halibut and pork entrees which we ordered ware nicely prepared and very tasty but the menu was not unique in its offerings or preparation. Our waiter was not particularly friendly or helpful, which is the reason for the two stars. Overall the service was good. Yountville and St Helena are know for some unique and outstanding restaurants, I would not include Redd among them."

"Our group of four had the tasting menu with wine pairing. They serve five courses, and in each course, each couple receives two different dishes and two different 2 oz wine pours. By sharing you get to taste 10 dishes and 10 paired wines. It great food, imaginative wine pairings, and superb execution by a friendly and knowledgeable staff--and we got to meet a lot of the staff. We dined outside on a beautiful evening in Napa. It was a perfect evening. We did the tasting menu at the French Laundry the following evening, and I personally enjoyed the evening at Redd better."

"We stopped in for lunch before an afternoon full of tastings and had a great time. We split the hamachi (good but wouldn't order again) followed by the steak sandwich and the scallops. The scallops were great but the steak sandwich was definitely the star, cooked to perfection and served on a light and buttery bun that won't leave you with a pit of regret weighing in your stomach an hour later.
Also had the Redd Swizzle (I think--some delightfully balanced tropical concoction) and would gladly order again.
Had a great experience!"
