Mayfield Bakery & Cafe
Rustic; Wood-fired; Sustainable and seasonal. These are the hallmarks of the dishes that can be enjoyed during breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Many of the dishes draw inspiration from the wonderful fresh-baked breads produced right next door at our Bakery. And all of our meals feature organic, seasonal and sustainable ingredients, many of which are prepared in the kitchen's wood-fired oven and rotisserie, which allow for long-cooked flavors, and for the simple, fresh ingredients to shine.

"Best brunch in the bay area! Farm to table, everything is fresh and so very good. Inside can be a bit noisy and I haven't enjoyed dinner there (expensive and not amazing) as much as I love brunch - but this is the place to have breakfast! Great service too. Noisy inside, quiet and nice on the patio."

"We have been to this restaurant 3 times now. Every experience has been as good as the first. Excellent breakfast. Very close to Stanford campus. We enjoyed our first experience so much that we immediately made a reservation to return the following day"

"THis time we sat next to door/hostess stand so a little extra noise. But generally I couldn't hear a person across the table. Nice hostess and waiter helped with minor special request medical. Fellow diners felt penne and fried chicken taste was good but didn't measure up to the price. Complementary loaf of bread at 9:00pm."

"I went to Mayfield's for Mother's Day with my family. We had a table outside on a beautiful sunny day. It didn't take too long to seat us and our waitress was right there to take our drink order. After that things went downhill because of slow service. It took 40 minutes between courses.
I ordered the scrambled eggs with ham and asparagus. It was a nice looking dish but the eggs were cold. I can live with slow service during busy times but I can't tolerate warm dish gone cold.
My warm dessert was cold as well. My wife's gelato was melting. We saw an expeditor's walk around our section with our desserts looking at every table (but ours) then walk back into the restaurant. 7 minutes later he was back with our food."

"Went for Mother's Day brunch and didn't realize it was a prix fixe menu. Was disappointed to learn that when we got there as there was something I really wanted on the regular menu. The food was really good as usual. We love this place and eat there frequently, but being forced to have 3 full breakfasts was a bit much. Each course in itself was a full breakfast and there were 3 of them. Of course they charged 3 times the price of a regular breakfast, so maybe one would expect it. It was just too much in one sitting. The waiters are attentive as usual, but there were some newbies that didn't know the protocol. Overall, I think it would have been an excellent experience had it been a normal breakfast."

"The service was seriously lacking on Friday. Partially our reservation time was to blame since it was before the kitchen officially opened but there were plenty of servers who could have brought drinks, etc. I won't plan a special event there again. They did not seem to take it seriously."

"Sun choke soup was way too thick - almost like a thick gravy and lacked proper seasoning. Ricotta gnocchi was overlooked and a bit dry as opposed to light and fluffy, the way I expected it to be. Beead and green salad were both great. Overall, our experience with Mayfield Bakery is that it is a better brunch destination than dinner destination."

"Chose Mayfield for an early Mother's Day dinner (4:00pm). Limited menu meant our choices were either salads, soup or sandwich/burger as they didn't allow us to order from dinner menu. For 2 of the Mom's the items were difficult to eat (both are elderly and we thought we'd be order fish or something softer) They managed with a tasty but salty broccoli soup. The others in our party ordered hamburgers done medium rare. All but one of the hamburgers came out well done. They were sent back and others brought out done as ordered but simple meal had us at the table for two hours. It felt like they were very busy. Can not recommend this restaurant."

"The restaurant had a good vibe and energetic feel. The hostesses were courteous and accommodating, when we arrived, although we waited 30 minutes for our table. While we have been here 4 or 5 times, this was by far the best food yet.
Unfortunately, our server was not very articulate and seemed to know little about the menu. Our dishes arrived at varying times and it seemed he forgot our entrees until we flagged him 30 minutes after salad course. Not once did he come by to ask about our dinner or

"This is an attractive, light-filled bistro. Despite the setting, it is not really a casual cafe, but more of a high-end restaurant, and the prices reflect that: the prime rib entree was $38, for example. It's energetic and somewhat noisy, so eating outside on the patio would probably be better for conversation -- and the view outside is nice. The two of us enjoyed our entrees but my cup of chicken soup had a 1/4" layer of fat on the surface -- the kitchen hadn't skimmed off the fat. Despite that problem, which I hope was isolated, our entrees were excellent: I had the Farotto, which is much like a risotto but made with grain, and my girlfriend had the asparagus and polenta."

"I tried this place several times. However, after 3 attempts of a party of 6 I realize that they are hopeless. The management is bad. They waiters are either inexperience or rude. We ordered appetizers and main course and this impolite and inexperienced wiatress brought all together. Do we need to tell the waitress that one is for appetizer and the other for main course. Who will bering a soup and an hamburger together for one person if that person didn't ask to bring them together? Which again goes back to bad management. They think it is crowded because they are good. This a total mistake, they are crowded because this restaurant is the only place in this location that serves breakfast/brunch besides couple of cafes who are selfservice."

"We had breakfast mid-week at Mayfield Cafe. Granted we ordered the Camino Breakfast (2 eggs, cottage potatoes, toast, & ham or bacon)-not the most creative item. The bacon was quite thick, tough, & mostly fat. I asked for bread (not toast) because I had heard their breads are great. I received bread; it could have been sliced wheat bread from a grocery store-not exceptional or interesting. After you order, you are brought a plate of 4 madelines. We tasted one, & it was okay but not at all what we want at breakfast; I really wish they had served something more along the lines of a biscuit or scone. The cost for 2 breakfasts & 1 coffee was $31.50 before tip & tax-expensive for what we ordered (thankfully we had a $20 OpenTable cheque)."

"Don't go for dinner too hungry. The portions are tiny! One diner on a diet had the sea bass and said she was allowed 6-8oz of fish and what arrived was half of what she expected to eat. Ordered some 'special' tea for $5.75 and it was a very ordinary bag. Waiter brought check without even asking if we wanted dessert. 3 course lunch is the best deal and came with hot fresh chocolate cookie. Just go to the bakery next door and take it home. The bread and the cookie were the best part of any meal there."

"Great booth table, exactly what we requested. Love the Village Pub and Spruce, Mayfield does a good job of offering a great business or personal feel in the hustle of town and country. Definitely a notch above the only competition Scott's Seafood. Keep your standards high, you own the top of the market and customers will return for that."

"My problem with this restaurant is the service. Although the staff are very friendly the lack of experience.is start to affect our visits. We are going to this place at least few times a year and for the last 2 years either the table for our reservation is not ready or the waiter doesn't know what is doing or both. I think there is something wrong with the management. Otherwise if you are not on diet this is a good place to eat."

"Service is hit or miss. Although we make a reservation, the restaurant never have our table ready for us and they still appear to work off a first come first served basis despite our reservation.
This visit we had to wait 5 mins for a highchair, had to ask for water (5 mins after being seated) after none was brought to the table, didn't get a kids menu or crayons like normal and generally had to chase staff when we needed something.
On other weeks we have a great experience so it is very inconsistent."

"Had a nice meal - lots of attention to detail here. The ricotta gnocchi were delicious, very different from traditional gnocchi. The roasted chicken was delicious. The Sunchoke soup was okay - a little bland. The warm beignets with pear jam were completely amazing. The noise level is really loud - almost difficult to have a normal volume conversation and the tables are too close together.
I would go back. Our server was very attentive and brought us a loaf of bread from the bakery along with our check - very nice touch."

"I am very disappointed after I had a lunch earlier this week. I had the farmer's menu, first course was fine, the fish wasn't up to par, I thought it was rather boring.
Very small space between the tables, I didn't really like to hear people's stories and plans
