"We reserved at Mr John's because it was well recomeded at some web pages but we were a little bit worried because nobody from New Orleans knew it. We were even thinking about cancelling our reservation. But it was a wonderful surprise! The service was great, very kind and attentive. And the food just made our trip. We had the best steak we ever have had. The place is nice, confortable. We definitely recomend it."

"We had heard of this wonderful little restaurant for quite a while and finally made reservations while on a "staycation" at a neighboring resort (we are locals). The menu was exceptional and the food was excellent, to say the least! The servers were attentive, prompt, and all around quite outstanding. Combined, everything made for a very enjoyable and memorable evening which we plan to repeat again and again!"

"This was my first time visiting Mr John's. it most certainly wont be my last. We started off with Who Dat Shrimp and cocktails. Both were spectacular. Our entrees were both Surf and Turf. "We brought two $85 bottles of wine with us.the corkage fee was $25 per bottle,which is alittle high.We ordered a bottle from there wine list and drank that first.the waiter opened our bottles and poured the first one to drink with the appetizers.He then knocked over the bottle with half the wine in it and also knocked over two of the glasses of wine all over one of our guest at the table !!! It was a big mess.We had to remove everthing from our table so they could change our table cloth.They did replace the crabcake it ruined.They waived one of the $25 corkage fees.But did not replace the spilled $85 bottle that we brought ! The food was excellent and we enjoyed it .But we feel they should of atleast replaced our wine !"

"Dinner for our party of six was fabulous. Great service! Our waiter was very attentive, but not intrusive. He made a wonderful wine selection. (I wish I could remember his name, but do remember he is originally from Egypt.) I had the petit filet, which was cooked perfectly. The table shared a few sides (mushrooms, asparagus, and potatoes), which were more than enough for all. I don't think there was a bad dish on the table. Great way to spend my 45th birthday!"

"This place is a classic. Hands down, the best steak available in New Orleans. Order the New York Strip (cooked no more than medium). Everything here is delectable. The only other steakhouse, as far as quality goes anyways, that I can compare Mr. John's to is Peter Luger's.
Also, be sure to try their new sister restaurant, Desi Vega's Steakhouse. It's also on St. Charles, about 10 blocks away from Mr. John's. Their menu is almost identical but the decor of the restaurant is a little more vibrant and has that Miami feel."

"I am a native New Orleanian and this was my second time visiting the restaurant and each time I have come away with a very poor opinion of the food. At our table one guest had fried green tomatoes; they were cold. Another guest had steak; said it was poor. Still another guest and I had a pasta dish with shrimp and vegetables. We both agreed the pasta was severely undercooked and the cauliflowers was over-powering. I waited for our server to return so I could ask for something else. The server was very tardy in checking our dishes. The other three had finished 2/3s of their plates (the other pasta eater had been too hungry to wait). I very nicely told the server my pasta was undercooked. No apology. I will not be returning. KNeilson"

"Went here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. I thought the restaurant was nice. It was kind of loud, but we didn't really mind. I guess we're already used to that here in New Orleans (we moved from Houston recently). I asked for an odd request, to put a candle on the steak. I guess that wasn't possible, but they were nice enough to give us a piece of meatball with a candle on it lol. Steak was great (a little bit salty). I asked for the petit filet, medium-well, with no butter. Paired with Malbec. Didn't ask for a dessert because I'm currently on a strict diet (and I wasn't supposed to drink wine either, but what can I say). Our waiter was pretty friendly and nice. Overall, a great experience. Will definitely come again."

"I was looking forward to a good steak and the porterhouse for 2 didn't disappoint. The creamed spinach was also above average. But the andouille mac and cheese was over the top, way too much cheese to the mac for my taste. "Steaks were done to perfection, and appetizer(fried green tomato with crab) and sides were also excellent. I rarely order steaks out since we can usually do them better at home. Our servers were great. It was a little noisey at first (large group at the next table was at end of their meal and drinks and soon left). Would definitely return on our next visit."

"I and my wife ate here during Mardi Gras. The atmosphere is nice and watching the parade thru the window was fun. We had a bottle of champagne and fried green tomato appetizer. Both were good and should be ordered. The steaks were perfect and full of flavor and the creamed spinich was tasty. Would eat here again."
