Tapas -- In the beginning. Tapas is a daily event in the life of the Spanish culture. Mainly a Northern Spain, Basque regional tradition, it has grown to signify a way of eating and socializing. It is said that tapas originated centuries ago. In Spanish, the word tapa or the verb tapar means "to cover." Tapas represents the Spanish custom of placing a piece of bread over the glass of wine. It is a custom that dates back past the 1500's. Traditionally, the exact food served is less important than the social occasion. It signifies leisure, camaraderie and good humor. In Spain, Tapas are almost always accompanied by wine. The wine is the medium that holds the conversation with friends and the food together. You make time to enjoy the moment in an unhurried way. The threefold purpose of snacking on tapas is to dull any hunger pangs that have built up since the previous intake of comestibles, to whet the appetite for the next, and to stimulate sociability, at which the Spanish excel.

"Three generations for a restaurant could sometime spell trouble, but La Bodega (unknown to me beforehand) has a kids menu that allowed everyone to enjoy their meal. The food (as always) is fantastic, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the service was very good. If you are looking for a great meal and a good value, be sure to hit their Happy Hour 3-6pm."

"We went for a Mothers Day lunch, were given a private, glassed in room for our family of 12 (8 adults and 4 children). We were pleased to find a nice kids menu, fantastic service and of course the tapas was wonderful as always! A real favorite of our entree family!"

"We go to this place a lot and I will say the food is amazing. The last time the service was horrible. We were there 3 hours and did not have the server come by more than 3 times. I travel for work and eat at restraurants 5-6 times per week and I have never had that poor of service anywhere else. We had to get up and refill our own drinks and did not get drinks we ordered from the bar. Plus from start to finish the tapas took 1.5 hours to get them all and we only ordered 6 of them. Then when the bill came it was also wrong. The food was so spread out and service so bad we did not finish our original order of tapas and just went to Taco Bell afterwards. Overall this was a very bad experience."

"The food is always good and I love the tapas concept - relax with friends, enjoy the wine and order tapas as you wish. Our waitress was especially helpful. We were unsure of which wine to choose. She suggested and then brought us 4 different wines to taste. When our small trio gets together, we like a long leisurely evening. She picked up on that immediately and never caused us to feel rushed even though the restaurant was quite busy."

"The lunch buffet was delicious! Our reservation was at 12:30pm. The indoor section of the restaurant was very quiet, because it was a lovely day and people were also sitting outside. The food selection was very varied. Everything was tasty. The staff was constantly refilling the buffet with fresh food. For $12.00 per person, one gets the buffet and a beverage. This is a very good value."

"We went to La Bodega on a weeknight. Arrived early and had some sangria while we waited for our table. The food was delicious. We had the abondaga(meatballs), shrimp, slices of tenderloin, and sliced baguettes with Iberico(?). The only negative was our table placement. The sun reflected off the window into my face. Otherwise a great evening."

"Too noisy (not energetic --that's an euphemiism.) My companion and I had to keep repeating outsellves whatever we were saying to each other. Not conducive to pleasan conversation. I wonder if there is something to do about the acoustics of the place, or it would simply be a matter of not having so many people jammed in the place.
The food is good, very imaginative menu, and the service is also very good, friendly and accomodating. But the noise level...!"

"Four of us had reservations at La Bodega for an early (6 PM) Saturday dinner. We were seated right away. 2 of us were very disappointed with our food-1 had the regular paella and the other had the seafood only paella; both were dry , without flavor and the rice was chewy and gummy at the same time. The other 2 diners liked their entrees-one had a steak and the other had the scallops. We did not have tapas. The waiter was very helpful with the wine selection, but was absent adn inattentive for the rest of the meal. Based on this experience and the only other time we ate here, we will not return to this restaurant."

"Great food - love the tapas menu! We had a group of 12 and were in the private room, which kept the noise level down. However, it was very dark and VERY warm, with little air circulation. we did ask them if they could do anything about it and were told that the private room is always warm. So if you book that room, please be aware it is rather dim and warm."

"La Bodega is always a favorite for our friends and our latest outing didn't disappoint! Our group went to celebrate a milestone birthday and once our server found this out, he took extra good care of us. He kept the food and the sangria (and birthday churros!) coming all evening. We were never rushed. Our tapas were delivered at a reasonable pace so we were never left with an empty table but also never overwhelmed with too many dishes at once. Food was amazing as always, especially the Montaditos del Carne de Cerdo, Papas Fritas con Ajo and Albóndigas Caseras (whose garlic cream sauce we were passing around to sop up with our bread). You can't go wrong for a group night out at La Bodega!"

"The food was good but the seat we got in the restaurant seemed a bit crowded for us. They did good keep the courses going until the last one. "Because it was Mardi Gras, the restaurant had a special program, which I didn't know. There was a loud samba band in a restaurant that's normally loud. At my table, we couldn't hear our conversation, defeating the purpose of our being together."

"The tapas we had tasted good except for short ribs meat was tender but the sauce was super bland. Our tab was $80 without alcohol we don't drink. But after an $80 meal you would expect not to still be hungry. Portions are super tiny for what you pay. We are fit active people and were looking for a good meal. Which it was tasty but one would expect not to leave hungry lol."

"I had a fabulous pasta dish with a perfect cream sauce and vegetables. It was supposed to be only for lunch but they made it for me for dinner. It really should be part of the permanent menu. All other salads and dishes very good as well!"

"It was very noisy when we first arrived at 7:00 but quieted down shortly there after. The food was fabulous! The Sangria was very good not as good as I have had at the Columbia a Cuban Restaurant in Tampa. It did not have any fruit in it but still I am anxious to go back for more. I had the fish of the day which was great. My husband had the seafood paella. It was delicious. My friends had steak and chicken which they said was great also. Overall we loved it!"

"Went in on Saturday evening place still packed. I'm not sure how much of that is normal or attributed to restaurant week. Our waiter was nice in explaining some of the favorite plates and a good breakdown on the wine. Only knock with his recommendations was that I asked what their hoppiest brew was and he suggested Old Rasputin haha. I went with wine instead and it was great food. The manager, Michael, was very friendly. Came by and asked how we were - told us about some newer items on the menu and explained part of the cooking process. He was very informative and very professional, I was pleased that he made us feel so welcome on our first visit. Great date spot, great staff. I'll be back."

"This lunch was disappointing. I have enjoyed several great meals at La Bodega but the service and food were not great. Out of 4 in our party , only 2 got their orders on time and correct. We had to wait for a sandwich and chicken on a salad. About 15 minutes later the server checked on us to see if we had gotten everything.We will go again since we love the ambiance but I doubt the friends we took for the first time will."

The Sangria Wine (Red) that I had was fantastic. The White Sangria my wife had was ok at best. All of the tapas that we ordered were very tasty and there were enough of them for all three of us to enjoy. The Paella was a bit of a disappointment. The rice was mushy and the clams and mussels were few and far between. This was the most expensive dish on our dining ticket which made it a little extra disapointing, but overall it was a good experience."
