"The food was excellent and interesting but my experience was colored.by the overwhelmingly loud DJ music. My 26 yo son enjoyed the moderately priced restaurant and will return with friends. For me Mas Malo says it all but I don't think I'm the demographic they are looking to attract."

"Kale and squash white mole enchiladas were amazing. Loved the food. Spicy cucumber margarita tasty but TINY. Waited longer than several walk in customers even though we had a reservation (and there were only two of us so I really didn't get it). Good atmosphere.. I'll definitely be going back to try something else, it was hard to decide on just one thing."

"Food was great, but service was absolutely horrible. Without a doubt, the worst I've ever had. We did not meet our waitress until 35 minutes after arriving and that was only AFTER we stopped her to ask her "Excuse me, are you our server?". We left a tip (as I always do), but she certainly did not deserve it -- did not even apologize for completely ignoring us for the first 35 minutes."

"The food was good and our servers were great! The only issue I had was that the manager and had us on check asking where the rest of our group was . I made reservations for 8 at 6:30 pm and by 6;45 only half had shown up and he came over to tell us that he had another big group coming in at 8 ; kind of insinuating that we need to be out of there by 8. In th end we had a party of 8 and spent around 400 dollars so I didn't apprciiate his rudeness letting us know that he needed our table . Won't be going back and don't recommend going with large group."

"I booked the place for my son's 18th birthday and was not disappointed. The food, the service (our waiter Alan) and the night went without a hitch. We brought a cake and candles and they were happy to light it and cut it for us too. The value for money was great. Would definitely recommend and return."

"It was a good restaurant, fairly empty on a Friday night which was surprising. The food was pretty generic I felt. I ordered the carne asada skirt steak and it was pretty basic. Rice, beans, and carne asada... Paid for a dish that I normally get at home. I was never asked how I wanted the meat cooked either, it just came automatically. It was good though, but I expected the dishes to be different I suppose and have more of a selection. I probably would choose somewhere else next time just because it was pretty basic dishes that are over priced."

"I was quite disappointed. We waited a few minutes before anybody checked us in. The restaurant was not extremely busy at that moment, so it was discouraging that we were not greeted promptly. The gentleman that checked us was not very welcoming, more like an inconvenience to seat us. The waitress and the servers were strategizing as to who will serve what tables which I found unsettling (shouldn't you have that planned ahead of time?). I ordered carnitas tacos, I can't believe how greasy they were! The chips were not crunchy, some were stale like they've been sitting out. The waitress never came by to see how we were, we had to waive her down for the bill. There are definitely some issues to be resolved at this place. Won't be back."

"Nothing spectular. We had margaritias, not very good. Carnitas pancake, which was good. Then carnitas meals which were okay. I think I would have rather brought food in from a taco truck and just went upstairs to the whiskey bar."

"I wanted to like this as much as Silverlake's Malo, but I really didn't. The food was great, best carnitas I have had in forever, amazing salsa, love the chewy chips. But the entire service experience was spotty. There was no valet in sight for at least 5 minutes when we pulled up, the bartender seemed really flustered and took a long time, the service at the table just wasn't attentive enough. It wasn't a BAD experience, just disorganized enough to distract from a pleasant dining experience."

"Great menu, cool dimly lit space. The Al Pastor (shredded, not from a spit) was delicious and the drinks were not too pricey. Service was great, but a touch on the slow side. Was having a great time in the lively atmosphere, so the extra few minutes weren't a huge deal. Will definitely be returning."

"Planned a 9 person work dinner at this location due to close proximty to our hotel and reasonable prices. The food was very good, but some items were either love it or hate it. Chips/Salsa great, grilled chicken great, chicken mole not sure about the sauce, lots of the taco plates were very good. Drinks great! Our sever was very nice and friendly but towards the end he got slammed and the service went down from there, empty glasses, no refills, forever to get the bill, forever to get it paid. Probably isolated. Would go again for the food, most of the larger dinner items are huge portions, could split or have a second dinner."

"The chicken mole was one of the best I've ever tasted and their salsa was nice and hot without losing the taste of the spices. Overall, my food was amazing, as was the service. And the spicy cucumber margarita (who knew it could be so good??)! However, it was very loud and my date and I had to yell across the table. Maybe that's what the restaurant was going for, but it's not a great place for good conversation. Other than that, it was outstanding!"

"Our Reservation was at 930 we arrived at about 925. We were immediately seated we ordered a short while after. While we were waiting another group of 7 arrived. We had beed siting for a while now and at 1048 the waiter comes back to ask if it was red sauce i wanted on my enchiladas and then walked over to the computer to put our order in. So had been sitting there for that long thinkong that our order was on the way and he hadnt even put in yet. It was now 1048 i had to get my car from the valet at 1130 before they closed the group of 7 that arrived an hour after us got their meal before us and ot was just 2 of us and we hadnt got anything. It was just rediculous i had to send the food back because i wasnt going to rush and eat the food."

"Food was great, but if you are going there for a b-day dont expect them to sing the birthday person happy birthday. Margarita with Don Julio cost 17 bucks! Fish tacos were good. Torta comes with a good amount of fries. Would i go there again...hmm definately not for there drinks."

"Great food, solid authentic-ish Mexican, not pricey, excellent cocktails, great vive, a tad loud, good service. I've been twice in a year and we we will go back for sure. Ceviche could be brighter or something, but still good. If you're looking for medium / high-end Mexican in downtown, go here."

"Great food and delicious margaritas in a gorgeous and spacious environment , and the valet parking, my biggest concern with driving downtown anytime, was a breeze! Reservations weren't necessary on this particular Tuesday night but it is probably a good idea as this is a great spot and I loved the menu!"

"I love the first Malo in Los Feliz, but I found this offshoot to be less-than-spectacular. Lame waiter. I had to constantly try to get his attention for anything. Mostly, though, the food prep wasn't nearly as good as the first Malo. Overall, made me wonder about their brand, or whether it was just an off night."

"I was really disappointed in my last visit to Mas Malo. I'd been twice before and thought I'd found a great meat and vegetarian friendly place downtown. Alas, the service - especially the manager - was so exceedingly rude and horrendous that I will never come back again. I brought a large group in, so one would think the service would have been better in anticipation that we'd spend a decent amount of money. Instead, it was straight attitude from the first moment. He refused to get our table ready until we were all there (although we'd made and confirmed the reservation, and empty tables just needed to be pushed together to "prepare" it), and asked me 5 times in 2 minutes about the number of people coming.
I'll never go back."

"This was my 5th visit to this restaurant. The first 4 times were great and tasty. My last visit was awful. Cold food and horrible service. Waiter took a long time to get our drinks and food. Slow service and cold food unfriendly waiter."

"Food that I thought was going to be outstanding wasn't completely up to par. Its edible but pretty blah for the price. I really was expecting a great dinner and the seasoning just wasn't on point. The restaurant environment is nice and the decor is pretty awesome. But the wait staff wasn't to attentive to our party and we had to hunt down different waiters to even get an order through. Don't ask for water because we were served what seemed to be glasses of warm water that had been sitting out for quite a while and tasted pretty weird. I dont think im planning on coming back."

"I loved the place, especially the underground bar :) The only thing is that our waiter took too long to help us and didn't even mention Happy Hour. It was really busy when we were all seated so maybe that's why he took so long, either way I expected better service. The food however is amazing and lots of good choices."

"Ordered the Happy Hour "Everything Platter", that essentially provided samplings of every Happy Hour offering. More than enough food for two people, but unfortunately, nothing very impressive - and a couple of the items were way too spicey. Since we were full - we had no room for an entree, which probably would have been much more enjoyable. Next time - we'll skip the appetizers and go right for an entree - but with so many restaurant choices in DTLA, and such a "so-so" experience, we won't be back for awhile."

"First time here. Our reservation was honored on time. The cocktails were very inventive & delicious. Ordered the shrimp diablo which was spicy & delicious. Loved the dressing on the side salad as well as the butternut squash which was exceptional. My husband had the pork belly tacos which were not fatty & full of flavor. He especially loved the salted caramel flan for dessert. We will definitely go back."

"Food is outrageously delicious and it's unique as well. The cheese fondue with large shrimp pieces and grilled bread is to die for, the ceviche by everyone's account [we were 4] is the best ever. The red snapper is to drool for. The room is fabulous - probably 100 years old/renovated with great reliefs on the ceiling which must be 30 feet high."

"Service needs to be improved overall. Waitress was asking for orders within minutes of receiving the menu. Once she did the get the orders . . . she was difficult to find. Food was hit and miss; some apps and plates very good, and some not served hot enough. It does have a cool relaxed atmosphere."
