"We were celebrating with friends and enjoyed every moment from our drinks in the lounge to the service and food at the table. Our waiter Oscar lived up to previous ratings and was expert in providing flawless service. The food was great from the appetizer sampler, the onion soup and the steak tartar. We ordered several fish dinners and all were flawless. The desert was the best Grand Marnier souffle we every had. I have traveled world wide and would rate this restaurant among the world's best. Open table had arrangements for flowers service that did not deliver--shame shame. Open Table should dissociate or fix the problem today!"

"We were disappointed with the food and atmosphere. The restaurant is beautiful but it was not a hotspot for a Friday night. We were not pleased with our food. My husband had trout which he said was "blah" and I had a tartare which I too felt was "blah". There are way better places to spend your time and money."

"So, I had an important business dinner and somehow made the reservation for the wrong night. Although we did not have a reservation, they fit us in. Great service, very good food, and nice atmosphere. A little loud for our purposes, but not distracting."

"Nice decor, disappointing food. Bar downstairs seems to be popular, dining room upstairs was more than half empty, understandably, since the food was mediocre. Salmon tartare, a no-brainer, was the best part of the meal, but nothing to write home about or book a return."

"I can not tell you how impressed I was with the food options and the quality of our choices. This was totally unexpected. If you have a chance to go to Philippe Restaurant, RUN don't Walk. The food was exquisite as was the service and the second floor dining room. Each and every dish could have been a suprise. What we were able to finish was some of the finest, most innovative tastes and presentations that I have seen in a long time. While that may be just my humble opinion, and it is, I travel with work every other week nationally in major cities and am able to eat at some of the newest and best restaurants in the country. This type of praise is rarely offered. BRAVO"

"The service was very good. We were celebrating a birthday but decided not to order dessert. However we were served a delicious platter of individual sweets (for which we were not charged). That was a very pleasant surprise. When I checked the bill I noticed that I had not been charged for my vodka cocktail. I told the waiter, and he came back to the table with the same bill and said that honesty pays. My guest and I were quite impressed. Each time that this has happened at other restaurants they have always charged for the drink. I will definitely return ."

"Food was great, but waiter took a very long time brining wrong cocktails and wrong specials. The place had only one other table seated at that time. An apology for a waiter not knowing that a special item on the menu was salmon, not scallops is not enough when scallops are expected. Why should I pay for what I did not order? Scallops were on a regular menu, why not bring some to the table when 3 people dining spending $400? Why am I charged for the side dishes on the menu listed as "compliments?" Cancelled a second glass of wine before it arrived because it took so long that a desire for it had vanished. Besides, who knows how long it would have taken with the restaurant getting busier?"

"We went for my girlfriends birthday because this is her favorite restaurant in Houston. The manager greeted us and was able to get us a secluded table away from the rest of the guest so we could enjoy our night. However, we went to dinner Thurday night and the place was EMPTY except for our party, a couple sitting in the bar and another couple sitting in a booth... dont get me wrong, i love this place, but dont go there expecting a vibrant scene."

"I took my boyfriend to Philippe's for his birthday. I made the reservation in advance and the hostess offered personalized menus which I thought would be a nice touch and of course a birthday dessert. I requested a booth and we got that, but there were no personalized menus. When I asked about it the hostess advised me that they "don't do those anymore" which was surprising to me because I'd confirmed that the day before. Then the birthday dessert never came out. I spoke with the manager about my experience as this was my first time dining here and was very pleased with how Chris chose to resolve the matter. He apologized and offered to bring out the dessert along with free cocktails in the lounge for the remainder of the evening."

"My wife and adult son were here to have dinner. It was a Thursday evening and we had a 7pm reservation. When we arrived we were the only ones. When we left there we two other tables. We figured that this place is really a bar lounge than a restaurant. I ordered the special, local boar cooked medium. It tasted okay but did seemed a little on the dry side. Appetizer were in these little jars....nice little gimmick but taste is more important to me. We ordered wine by the glass because we were eating different foods, fish and pork. The wine was fine, I guess it had better be because it is a bar lounge place. So bottom line is I would not recommend this place for dinner unless you want to throw money away. A 'quiet' place for a drink."

"Kitchen a little slow that day but it turned out an outstanding and delicious lunch. Yum. Seafood risotto on the pre fixe was the best I've ever had ...heavy in the seafood, light on the rice with a foam of the sauce to top it off. "Phillipe has a "Master Chef Lunch" which is essentially a fixed-price limited menu -- twenty dollars for three courses. Its great if you want to have a fairly quick and pocket-book friendly (for the Galleria) but still upscle, lunch. Despite the fact that it was a fixed menu, the waiter had no problem swapping out the seafood risotto on the menu for a vegetarian friendly one, which was great -- and both the first and third courses had an option that was vegetarian friendly. The lunch was just the right amount of food, and all of it was excellent. The waitstaff was also the "right" amount of attentive. I'd recommend this place for "spcial occasion" lunches and/or business lunches."

"We celebrated our 5 year anniversary there and were very happy with the food, ambiance, and service. Our waiter, Todd, was very attentive and made great suggestions. The Chef even came by to wish us a happy anniversary and ask about our experience. We will definitely be back."

"Too many good, fun Houston restaurants for any of the 5 of us to ever come here again. Parking:Valet shook his finger@me & said park out back. Told him I'd pay him the $5-but no. Friend was told valet"should get something extra for driving a stick shift" (her car). No available valet for her yet another friend also scolded for parking her own car in front. Food: Garden salad/Duck:Delicious. Cocktail "The Blessing:"Instant favorite. But:Fois gras slider needed something sweet to complete. Bland Caesar's dressing. 2 appetizers ordered as entree (plainly stated)misunderstood & left us all waiting.$5 serving mashed potatoes looked like $2 plate. Pricey can be OK;lack of communication,"eh" dishes,a rude valet:never OK."

"Was a fan of Phillipe Schmit from his days at Bistro Moderne. We were surprised when the food was just of moderate quality. Our calamari appetizer was crumbly with very little calamari. My NY strip steak was not exciting and just a bit chewy. My wife's salmon entree was also not exciting and the spaghetti squash side dish was very bland. However, the highlight of the evening was the crepes dessert. It was fabulous and the grand marnier creme sauce was to die for."

"Went for the Master Chef lunch for $20.Was very excited to try out some great food.
I had the mushroom soup with truffle oil. This was quite delicious - very rich and hearty. It would have been nice to have some more texture to it in the form on some meat...but it was good nonetheless. My beef ravioli order was up next. From the time I was done with the soup till I got the ravioli I had to wait almost 30 minutes. This was very infuriating and made we anxious. There were only 3 other tables with customers and it made no sense to me. The ravioli was underwhelming and could definitely use some more kick to it. The pear and ice cream desert was mediocre. The lunch took 1.5 hrs. Bolted out of there when done. Not sure if i will return :("

"Came here for Valentine's day with my husband. The lounge sitting was fast, but only sit there if you don't mind the next table hearing your conversations. Lounge is nice and modern.
Upstairs dining is still very loud, but it's not a problem if you're in a booth.

"We had superlative service from our server, Oscar, who expertly guided us through the menu and the wine list. As a result, my wife and I were treated to one of the best meals we've had since moving to Houston in 2010. The tropical fruit tuna tartare was so unlike our notion of what such a thing would taste like, and so nuanced in its flavor, that we had a giggling fit after the first bite! My escolar steak was perfectly cooked and beautifully paired with the underlying filo dough wrapped pork belly and lentil ragout. My wife enjoyed her salmon immensely. Rhone and burgundy wines were well paired with our food. We finished with the tres-leches which, while not authentic to the classic dish, was delicious! Merci beaucoup Chef Schmit!"

"A wonderful idea to showcase certain dishes in celebration of their 2 year anniversery. The first course was crab and avocado, mushroom salad, and escargot w/new potatoes. Wow, everything was very flavorful. The entree gave bites of duck, sole, and beef cheek. The duck was perfect, however the fish and beef missed something.The little pot of mac & cheese was a great touch. The dessert was amazing with black forest mousse, apple tarte, and churros. The churros were a great surprise.
The chef always comes by and asks how everything is going. He is cute!
