This beautiful original Art Deco building began as the Lincoln Grill in 1928. Since 1981, it has been The Elite Cafe. Since its inception, The Elite has served exquisite food with the flavors of New Orleans. Our current menu continues this tradition but with an emphasis on seasonality, the freshest local ingredients, and a lighter touch in our preparation. From the original mahogany booths to the beautiful full bar to the unsurpassed people watching on the Upper Fillmore, The Elite Cafe has something for everyone. We now offer HEATED-OUTDOOR Dining. Enjoy Brunch, Dinner, or a glass of wine while experiencing one of San Francisco's most exciting Shopping & People-Watching streets.
"Excellent flavor! Best corn bread I ever had. Kobe steak was tender even at well done level. Sauce went really well with the beef. Blueberry bread pudding was delicious. I question the pairing with lemon ice cream. It's refreshing, but I feel like maybe vanilla would have been better. We had a booth which gave us privacy and felt like we were on a train. I also ordered the seafood gumbo. It was good, but it didn't knock me off my chair. I heard someone rave about it on TV, so I had high expectations. Service was good. It's a neighborhood gem."

"The food was wonderful and I loved the atmosphere of this old-style gem. I had a booth which provided both some privacy and noise reduction. My only complaint was the slow service of the food. I don't know if they were short staffed on the night that we were there, but we arrived at 7:15 for dinner and did not get out until close to 9:15. I would have expected to be finished closer to 8:30-8:45. I noticed that even the hostess was serving dinners and the restaurant was not completely full, so maybe it was just an "off" night for service. Otherwise, the place was great."

"The Elite Cafe, with it's comfortable, vintage booths that transport you into the 1920's era, was fun. The people were welcoming, even though we were early for dinner. After a drink at the bar, we sat down and proceeded to order the oysters, deviled eggs, mushroom soup, mac and cheese and salad washed down with a delightful but pricey ($50)chenin blanc. They didn't have the rose that we wanted. Everything was delicious. Afterwards,we took a stroll around the somewhat funky but chic neighborhood that embodies the Elite."

"The service was intilaly attentive and then became less so when the restaurant became busy. More importantly, we booked a table for 5 and they put us in a booth for 4 with a chair at the end of the table which was super uncomfortable, right in the flow of traffic.
However, the food was very good and the staff were super nice. I woudl go back in a heartbeat."

"Look like a great place but I was VERY disappointed about where I was localized with my friends. I was put in the back of the room in a kind of "box", which really isolated us to the rest and could not enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant. My friends were visiting SF and I was about to show them a typical place of the city. You should be aware about such requirement or you don't really care about your customers!"

"Having had a number of good dinners at the Elite Café it had become a relative destination for us. Saturday the experience was poor - shoddy disjointed service, uninformed wait staff, and very mediocre food to boot. I never knew chicken could be so dry. After two bottles of wine we ordered were unavailable, the hostess recommended a comparable one. She did not however tell us that it was $20+ more than the ones we had ordered. Bad form all in all. We won't rush back."

"I brought a friend who is from New Orleans. It was his birthday and I thought it would be great for him to enjoy some home cooking. We were not disappointed, the food was great. The service was excellent and they went above and beyond to make a special dessert for my friend!"

"Been going to the Elite since its early days. Were there to celebrate anniversary of our first date. Still great on all levels. They really have done a great job of lending a New Orleans flair to California Cuisine. Have to admit though....when I ordered blackened filet....although excellent....just a few thin slices over a bed of vegetables. It did make me long for the days when it came as a full filet and anything green had to be ordered as a side. Along with the oyster bar...the "old" Elite was just more of a Southern dining experience that was totally unique in San Francisco."

"Disappointed-Hushpuppies not crisp, red beans and rice NO SAUCE, liver very small portion, tough, onion was the largest food item on the plate. SMALL portions--definitely not New Orleans style. Spent 9 days at Christmas in New Orleans eating my way through the city, and this restaurant bears NO relationship to New Orleans---unless you count oysters ~ where for $2. you can get them across the street on Tuesdays. Won't return!"

"Food is excellent. We had terrible service. First brought wrong drink, when we asked for another brought correct drink, no apology. Brought us the wrong salad, same thing. Didn't ask if we wanted another drink. Ordered coffee, espresso, coffee sloshed all over outside of cup. someone just walked by and put our bill down on the table. No comment, thank you very much, I'll take this when you are ready, no interaction. very uncomfortable environment. food is very good but service will keep me from returning."

"Don't miss the Elite Cafe. It's a great blend of terrific New Orleans food (biscuits, etoufee, gumbo. seafood salads, and beignet), atmospheric interior (separate booths and a classic New Orleans even San Francisco look), and professional and knowing service. Go and enjoy!"

"I like waiters that will be as solicitous with me as with the table next to mine. I did not feel that. I felt as though we were among the "and also present" something like "runner up" or "honorable mention." He was not rude or disrespectful, he just did not bring much of a personality to the table. The food was good, but not outstanding and could have used a little more spice. The Deviled eggs looked great, but lacked something in the filling. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant as a good place to eat, but it is not outstanding."

"I was really looking forward to this place and was a little disappointed. We were seated promptly and the service was good. We ordered the biscuits and the deviled eggs. The biscuits were good, but the deviled eggs weren't anything special. Our dinner arrived so fast we were surprised and not finished the first course. My husband had the jambalaya which he just loved. I had the bbq shrimp which were ok. For bbq shrimp they were pretty mild and a little greasy. I ordered the greens which were very good."

"I drove 1.5 hours through rush hour traffic to get to the Elite Cafe for Mardi Gras dinner, and it was worth the trip. I ordered the gumbo and the jambalaya. Both were colorfully presented and delicious. Enjoyed the high ratio of meat/vegetables to rice in the jambalaya. The restaurant manager recommended the cornbread or biscuits. I chose the cornbread and thought it was some of the best cornbread I've ever had. Also enjoyed the mini pecan pie tart served warm with ice cream and spiked whipped cream. I'll have to go back to try a few of the other dishes I missed. Highly recommend the restaurant"

"I am not really Pacific Heights type but this place is worth braving the liboutin wielding neighborhood inhabitants. Some of the best Beignets outside of NOLA. The BBQ Shrimp could have had some more punch in the flavor dept. The mussels were a gem."

"I went on Mardi Gras, but late, so the place was not crowded. The hostess and the server were attentive and prompt. I had the salmon, my friend had the jambalaya, they were both excellent. The restaurant has several enclosed booths that are almost like tiny dining rooms, which is very nice to have a private conversation and be undisturned by noise from the other tables."

"If I can eat something and not have indigestion/heartburn later, than that place is golden. Elite cafe had wonderful food that wasn't loaded with a bunch of sauces or garlic or spices. They just let the food taste like it was meant to. And the portions were perfectly sized (I didn't feel like rolling out the door). The prices are a bit on the high side, but for the quality of the food, it's understandable and reasonable."

"I have loved this restaurant since it opened 30 years ago. The snug wooden booths, terrific cocktails, and attentive service were as good on my last visit as they were on my first, but the Cajun food seemed to have slipped a bit. I'd like to think that his was just an off night rather than a trend."

"Not a very big place so tables are close together. The noise level is pretty high so request one of the booths along the side - much better for conversation and ambience. Food is excellent though no matter where you're sitting!! And they mix a mean cocktail!! I'll definitely be back."

"Server was great, host & hostess rude. Had a reservation for 8ppl. I let the host know we might be 7 & he seemed fine & then came back & told me I had to let him know "RIGHT NOW" our count-I told him were 7 for sure. Some how the 2 top was moved away from our table? Not 15min.later our 2 other guests arrived. We kindly asked the 2ppl who sat at the 2 top if they wouldn't mind moving to another 2 top & they agreed. The hostess was looped in as friends @ the opposite end of our table were scrambling to find seats for the later arrivals. The hostess told us WE were RUDE for asking if the 2 could move, when she didn't know the full story. She had no idea how rude the host was & that the ppl asked if they could move were cool w/moving."
